This is a multivariable system and its combined response at the outlet of this system, which is usually the entrance ofa wastewater treatment plant, depends on a number of environmental (precipitation and temperature) as well as social (size of the urban area, population changes, water consumption per capita) variables. There is a large number of available models and tools for describing the urban water system, however, the interactions between the individual components are rarely considered within the same modelling framework. In this paper a parsimonious methodology is proposed in order to understand and estimate the wastewater generation and its characteristics in an urban area using any information provided by the available data. The model incorporates both the flows of stormwater discharge and wastewater production that arrive to the wastewater treatment plant. A state dependent variable is introduced to simulate the consumptive uses in the urban area. Data availability and system's complexity affect the ability to achieve enhanced model performance, however, in the presented case study, preliminary results from the application of the presented model in the Greater Athens Area illustrate the potential of the conceptual modelling approach.展开更多

We explore the relation between the Doppler factors d of the jet of blazars and their broad line region luminosity LBLR. Since different methods measuring δ might differ substantially, we use data obtained from 3 independent methods and compile 3 samples of sources for each of them, respectively. Two samples consist of blazars, that is, Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs) and BL Lacertae objects (BL Lacs), and the other consists of BL Lacs. dis one of the most important jet properties and LBLR is thought to be the proxy of the accretion power. Correlation analysis to these samples shows that there exists a significant correlation between δ and LBLR, which supports the idea that the jet powering process is closely linked with the accretion process and provides new evidence for disk-jet connection. Furthermore, the results are consistent with the idea that the Blandford-Znajek mechanism is sufficient for BL Lacs and a hybrid model is needed for FSRQs.展开更多

The dynamical behaviors of these soliton solutions are studied. The solitonic propagation behaviors such as restraint and sustainment on continuous wave background are discussed by altering the value of dispersion parameter δ. Moreover, the longitude controllable behaviors are also reported by modulating the dispersion parameter & These results are potential1y useful for future experiments in various blood vessels.展开更多

Different from classical phase transitions which are driven by thermal fluctuations, QPTs are driven by quantum fluctuations at zero temperature and can be accessed by varying some physical parameters of the many-body system. Characterizing QPTs, which normally needs complicated theoretical calculations, becomes a fundamental problem to further study quantum matters.
