From the perspective of the text-image relation, Seurat’s pointillist technique and the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte provided the stage setting, dramatic tension, and artistic theme for the creation of this musical, thus fusing visual elements with dramatic narrative. From the perspective of music and dramatic structure, the lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim linked the parallel narrative structure of the two acts through music and used three musical motifs to enrich the expression of musical and dramatic elements. From the perspective of multi-media art, Sondheim further achieved the fusion of multiple artistic media such as painting, music, and lyric through cross-media transformation and the artistic idea of “integration,” thus creating a synesthetic experience in musical narrative. 展开更多
