An analysis is made of the effect of Doppler broadening on gain without inversion (GWI) from different aspects in a closed lambda-type three-level system with an incoherent pump. It is shown that, regardless of the ...An analysis is made of the effect of Doppler broadening on gain without inversion (GWI) from different aspects in a closed lambda-type three-level system with an incoherent pump. It is shown that, regardless of the driving field being on resonance or not, for the counter- or co-propagating of the probe and driving fields (PDF), GWI does not monotonically decrease or increase with increasing Doppler width. Except for the case of counter-propagating PDF with off-resonance driving field, at a suitable Doppler width one can obtain a gain maximum value much larger than that without Doppler broadening; especially in the situation of the resonant driving field, the co-propagating geometry leads to a larger GWI. In addition, for the counter-propagating geometry, when Doppler width is larger enough, GWI oscillation occurs, and the oscillation amplitude and region increase with increasing Doppler width. These conclusions are very different from that obtained in previous investigation (Lukin et al, Laser Phys. 6 436 (1996)).展开更多

A magneto-o...So far, the only Ca magneto-optic atomic filters reported are based on a heated Ca cell, and the transmission spectrum obtained is double-peaked with 3 GHz effective passband limited by Doppler broadening. A magneto-optic atomic filter with single-peaked transmission spectrum of sub-Doppler bandwidth based on the thermal Ca atomic beam is firstly experimentally demonstrated. The fast Ca dipole transition(1S0–1P1) at 422.7 nm, which matches a strong solar Fraunhofer line, was utilized. A folded ninebeam traveling wave configuration is employed, and the maximum transmission efficiency is measured to be 7.3 %.A sub-Doppler transmission bandwidth of 590 MHz, much narrower than the 2.2 GHz Doppler width in the heated atomic cell, is obtained for the first time.展开更多
The mode splitting in a system with Doppler-broadened high-density two-level atoms in the presence of magnetic field inside a relatively long optical cavity is studied in the superstrong coupling regime(atoms-cavity c...The mode splitting in a system with Doppler-broadened high-density two-level atoms in the presence of magnetic field inside a relatively long optical cavity is studied in the superstrong coupling regime(atoms-cavity coupling strength g√N is near or larger than the cavity free-spectral range?FSR).The effect of a magnetic field applied along the quantization axis is used to break the polarization degeneracy of the cavity and thereby introduce birefringence(or Faraday rotation)into the medium.The cavity modes are further split in the presence of the magnetic field compared with the normal case of the multi-normal-mode splitting of the two-level system near the D2 line of87Rb.The dependence of the mode splitting on the magnetic field and the temperature is studied.The theoretical analysis according to the linear dispersion theory can provide a good explanation.展开更多
