Most studies focused on single-objective optimization problem for the hydrogen network, but few account for the multi-objective optimization problem. This paper presents a novel approach for modeling and multi-objective optimization for hydrogen network in refineries. An improved multi-objective optimization model is proposed based on the concept of superstructure. The optimization includes minimization of operating cost and minimization of investment cost of equipment. The proposed methodology for the multi-objective optimization of hydrogen network takes into account flow rate constraints, pressure constraints, purity constraints, impurity constraints, payback period, etc. The method considers all the feasible connections and subjects this to mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP). A deterministic optimization method is applied to solve this multi-objective optimization problem. Finally, a real case study is intro-duced to illustrate the applicability of the approach.展开更多

The proposed schedule optimization model consists of several single cost fi.mctions, which take rolling force, motor power, inter-stand tension and stand reduction into consideration. The cost function, which can evaluate how far the rolling parameters are from the ideal values, was minimized using the Nelder-Mead simplex method. The proposed rolling schedule optimization method has been applied successfully to the 5-stand tandem cold mill in Tangsteel, and the results from a case study show that the proposed method is superior to those based on empirical formulae.展开更多

An attempt was made to minimize waste discharged from chemical reaction processes during the design and modification process while the operation conditions were also optimized to meet the requirements of technology and economics. Multiobjectives decision nonlinear programming (NLP) was employed to optimize the operation conditions of a chemical reaction process and reduce waste. A modeling language package-SPEEDUP was used to simulate the process. This paper presents a case study of the benzene production process. The flowsheet factors affecting the economics and waste generation were examined. Constraints were imposed to reduce the number of objectives and carry out optimal calculations easily. After comparisons of all possible solutions, best-compromise approach was applied to meet technological requirements and minimize waste.展开更多

The results show that the effect of reducing CO2 emissions on China's economy is significant. Under the present conditions, the estimated macroeconomic costs of CO2 emission reduction in 2010 for China are approximately 3,100-4,024 RMB t-1. The stronger the abatement actions, the higher the macroeconomic costs of per unit emission reduction would be. Excavation industry, oil industry, chemical industry, and metal smelting industry have high potential to abate their CO2 emissions.展开更多

It creates a number of environmental problems, e.g., landslides, loss of biological diversity, and decrease of carbon sequestration which are impacting human lives, There are a number of underlying causes, often stemmed from the emphasis on a particular forest management objective. Despite numerous forest policies and regulations established by the government, deforestation continues to happen. Quite often, the policies and regulations remain "paper tiger", which means ineffectual on the ground. One of the contributing factors to deforestation is the lack of custodian for the management of the forests. The regulation, such as law No. 41/1999, stipulates that all state forests must be managed under a FMI3 (forest management unit) as the custodians. The objective of this research is to develop an optimal model for FMU. Using the LGP (linear goal programming), this research attempts to develop an optimum model for conservation areas. It assumes that the existing zoning approach implemented by the government in conservation areas is inappropriate. The optimum zoning model is expected to improve forest management and restore the forest function as a life supporting system and biological diversity conservation.展开更多

The planning needs to allocate the execution time effectively, schedule the on-board astronauts properly, and arrange the devices reasonably. The STMP concept models for problem definitions and descriptions are presented, and then an STMP multi-objective planning model is developed. To optimize the STMP problem, a Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II(NSGA-II) is adopted and then improved by incorporating an iterative conflict-repair strategy based on domain knowledge. The proposed approach is demonstrated by using a test case with thirty-five missions, eighteen devices and three astronauts. The results show that the established STMP model is effective, and the improved NSGA-II can successfully obtain the multi-objective optimal plans satisfying all constraints considered. Moreover, through contrast tests on solving the STMP problem, the NSGA-II shows a very competitive performance with respect to the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm II(SPEA-II) and the Multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO).展开更多
