Chaohu Lake, and Long.an Lake. All three lakes are located in the lower reaches of the Changjiang River (Yangtze River). In Taihu Lake and Chaohu Lake, algae blooms occurred every year, while Longgan Lake was a macrophyte-dominated lake. Results showed that exchangeable phosphorus fractions were much higher in the eutrophic lake sediments than in the macrophyte-flourishing lake sediment. Also, the ratio of Fe:P in the sediments of the algae-predomlnant lakes was generally much lower than that in the macrophyte-predominant lakes. Thus, the geochemical fractions of phosphorus in sediments had a closer relationship with the type of aquatic vegetation.展开更多

This behavior is related to the volumetric instability when the water content is changed. Natural collapsible soils in Brazil are generally found in alluvial, colluvial and residual soils. There are known occurrences of natural collapsible soils in many states of Brasil. In the last two decades, many public projects have been developed in areas where the occurrence of collapsible soils has been associated to geotechnical problems. The present paper devoted to study the collapsible soils in the state of Pernambuco which has been associated with large engineering projects such as housing and irrigation canals. The geotechnical investigation program included test with a field apparatus, called Expanso-colapsometer, which allows the measurement of the field settlements of a small 0.10 m of diameter plate inserted at any depth inside an auger boring hole. Reconnaissance borings with SPT (standard penetration test), investigation pits with undisturbed block sampling and disturbed samples for laboratory tests were also made in order to assess the type and characteristics of the soil. Field tests used the Expanso-colapsometer to measure the settlement of the soil in selected depths under controlled flooding. Laboratory work included double and standard oedometer tests with a controlled rate of water inflow of 1.0 mL/s. It was found that the volume change of the soils when flooded depends on their natural stress state (vertical stress, suction head and structure of soil).展开更多

The model food systems were composed of alginate gel particles (-10mm) and a gelatinised starch solution with 1% w/w sodium chloride as a liquid phase. The effects of particle phase volume (Ф, 0-0.60), particle shapes (cube, sphere, rod and disc) and starch concentrations (3% and 5% w/w starch) were investigated. The power law model was successfully applied to characterize the flow properties of each system and the consistency K and power law index n were obtained. The K increased and n decreased with increasing # for samples at all particle shapes at 3% w/w starch in the liquid phase. The particle effect on the viscosity is further analysed by means of the Krieger-Dougherty model and the maximum packing fraction #,, and the intrinsic viscosity [η] were obtained in each system. The Фm, depended on the particle shape, as expected. The [7] value depended on particle shape and was largely in the order of 4.04 (cube), 3.28 (disc), 2.56 (sphere) and 2.32 (rod) at 3% w/w starch. The [η] also depended on starch concentration and was 1.1 at 5%,6 w/w starch in the liquid phase with spherical particles. The present results show successful application of BMS to study the rheological properties of large particulate liquid food systems at relatively small scale experiment (-0.5 L) and also that existing models for suspension rheology are applicable for such food systems to a great extend.展开更多

In this paper the sediment connectivity approach was applied at basin scale both using Sediment Delivery Distributed(SEDD) model, which takes into account the hillslope sediment transport, and sediment yield measurements carried out at SPA2 experimental basin(Sicily, Italy). The expression of the sediment delivery ratio SDRi of a morphological unit was modified for highlighting two components corresponding to the structural(SDR_(L,i)) and functional(SDR_(F,i)) sediment connectivity, respectively. For SPA2 basin the frequency distribution of the travel time of each morphological unit was used to estimate the coefficient βL of the structural component of the sediment delivery ratio of each morphological unit. Then, using the sediment yield measurements carried out at the outlet of the experimental SPA2 basin in the period April 2000-March 2015, the SEDD model was calibrated at event scale for estimating the coefficient βF of the functional component of the sediment delivery ratio. At event scale the developed analysis stated that the functional connectivity is dependent on the magnitude of erosion events. Intermediate and high events, which were characterized by the lowest values of the functional coefficient, determine a more high functional connectivity and are characterized by a more efficient sediment transport along the hillslopes. Finally, at annual scale, the model was calibrated for the period 2000-2015 and relationships for estimating the coefficient βF,a of the functional component of the sediment delivery ratio taking into account the intensity of erosion events occurring in each year were determined. At annual scale, the analysis demonstrated that the functional coefficient was always greater than the landscape coefficient and the sediment connectivity was always controlled by the low values of the functional component.展开更多

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the physical and chemical parameters of water and sediment to the presence of macrozoobenthos populations. Based on the result of Pearson Correlation Analysis (PCA), the parameters of COD, TOC and silt composition were the highest correlation to the macrozoobenthos population density, the value were 0.966, 0.865 and 0.576. Although PCA analysis is used to determine the relationship between the parameters of water, sediment and sediment particle distribution, the result showed that the water parameters were the mayor component affected the density of macrozoobenthos. While based on the composition of sediment, it is found that substrate as silt, clay and gravel and phosphate parameter affected the density of macrozoobenthos. The measurement of water quality also were calculated by Biotic Monitoring Working Party-Average Score Per Taxon (BMWP-ASPT) index showed that the quality were polluted condition, although by Pollution Index (IP) method showed as a light polluted category.展开更多

Slopes from a high-resolution digital elevation model and the main ice divide were used to delineate main drainage sectors across Antarctica. In each drainage sector, a quantitative relationship between temperature and latitude, longitude and altitude was established using available tim temperature data. Quantitative relationships incorporating other factors affecting Antarctic air temperature such as atmospheric circulation and small-scale to- pography were used to derive a 10-km resolution grid map of surface temperature. The resulting temperature patterns presented a reasonable depiction of both large and small-scale variations in Antarctic 10 m firn temperature. This map is useful for many spatial variation studies, Antarctic ice sheet models, and comparison with satellite-derived temperature data and outputs of atmospheric general circulation models.展开更多
