To investigate the impact of dynamic assessment(DA)on the development of speaking skills,a case study was conducted,recruiting a non-English major undergraduate.DA was constructed following the design combining sandwi...To investigate the impact of dynamic assessment(DA)on the development of speaking skills,a case study was conducted,recruiting a non-English major undergraduate.DA was constructed following the design combining sandwich and cake format with an interactionist approach.To collect data,a profile was designed in accordance with the China’s Standards of English Language Ability(CSE)to record the learner’s changes.A semi-structured interview was conducted to reveal his perspectives on DA.The generated profile with specific mediator-learner’s moves revealed the learner’s microgenetic development in both organizational knowledge and oral expression strategy ability.The thematic analysis of the interview demonstrated the learner’s positive experience with DA,while also unveiling the weak points of DA.Finally,the operational framework for applying interactionist DA in the oral classroom was discussed,and the complementary relationship between DA and traditional teaching and testing practices was highlighted.展开更多

The participants are oversea Chinese graduate students who take undergraduate courses at WOU, and some of them regard English as their Second Language. The study adopts the experimental design, There are total of 60 Chinese students participating in the study. The results indicate that the use of a Computer-Lab significantly improved students' English oral expression ability.展开更多

And CLT is the best choice to solve this problem. CLT focus on improving students' communicative competence through creating harmonious teaching environment, establishing fruitful teacher-student relationship and organizing effective classroom activities. Through the experiment done in the an independent college oral English class, this thesis tries to prove CLT is effective for improving independent college students' communicative competence by tests, questionnaire and interview to seventy non-English freshmen of our college by means of qualitative and quantitative methods. Besides, this thesis provides the teaching model of CLT. Through the painstaking organization of classroom teaching, students can experience the real communicative environment and can cultivate the ability of using language.展开更多

The authors present the analysis of...China English is defined as a developing variety of international English spoken in China with some characteristic features at the level of phonology, grammar, lexis and pragmatics. The authors present the analysis of the use of the first-person plural pronoun we by Chinese senior English majors in spoken English as a way of illustrating how the pragmatic features of these students' choice of first-person pronoun manifest according to their social positions. Analysis finds that for these speakers we is used in ways that are consistent with wo-men, first person plural pronoun in Chinese, which is often used ambiguously for non-specific reference. Findings indicate that speakers lacking social power will use the pronoun to reproduce a mainstream or generic discourse. The authors conclude by arguing that Chinese university students' use of we can simultaneously be seen as an expression of their English language proficiency and as an adherence to Chinese cultural and pragmatic norms.展开更多
