The well-being of all Austr...The livelihoods and well-being of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities in remote and rural northern Australia are dependent upon the ecosystem services provided by tropical ecosystems. The well-being of all Australian citizens is measured by the Australia Bureau of Statistics （ABS） using socio-economic indicators. In this study we investigated the importance of non-market benefits derived from ecosystem services for Aboriginal well-being. Through a case study with the Mullunburra-Yidinji people in the Wet Tropics, Queensland, we applied the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment （MA） framework to identify the links between ecosystem services and the MA＇s six constituents of human well-being. The study demonstrated that cultural and provisioning services were key determinants of community well-being, and these are not currently measured by the ABS. We adapt the MA framework to include the ABS indicators and explore the potential strengths and weaknesses of the approach for measuring the well-being of contemporary remote and rural Aboriginal communities.展开更多

They are composed of active deposits in the regular distributed tectonic lithofacies zo...Late Paleozoic strata in northeastern China are distributed in a zonal pattern around the old-land on the Jiamusi-Mongolia Block. They are composed of active deposits in the regular distributed tectonic lithofacies zones. This indicates that the late Paleozoic strata belong to continental margin deposits. According to the strong conformability of the sedimentary strata in the same continental margin and distinct differences among the three continental margins, three stratigraphical regions of the Jiamusi-Mongolia Stratigraphical Province are recognized along the northern, southern and eastern margins of the Jiamusi-Mongolia Block, named respectively as Xing＇an Stratigraphical Region, Inner Mongolia grass-Songhua River Stratigraphical Region and Baoqing-Hunchun Stra- tigraphical Region. Due to the characteristics of continental margin deposits and active sediments, the strata can be correlated on the level of formation by the methods of analysing the rock association in the same stratigraphic region. Therefore, some revisions of the lithologieal formations of the late Paleozoic strata in northeastern China have been made, and a new chart of lithostratigraphic correlation has been proposed. Furthermore, the present stratigraphic framework is setting on the International Stratigraphic Chart on the level of stage, after comprehen- sive researches to lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy, especially the conodont biostratigra- phy and isotopic ages of volcanic rocks obtained in recent years.展开更多

Thus, how to improve the efficiency of foreign language listening teaching has long been a concern of researchers and foreign language teachers. As the beginning of English study, primary English is of significant importance for the learners＇ future language development. The study tries to put primary English listening together with metacognitive strategy and build up the metacognitive strategy-oriented model in primary English listening class in order to improve primary students＇ listening comprehension. Firstly, the thesis pointed out the disadvantages of the current primary English listening teaching. In order to make up these disadvantages, the previous studies of listening comprehension and metacognition both home and abroad are reviewed and the necessity and feasibility of the study are discussed. Finally, it is concluded that it is necessary and feasible to carry out the metacognitive strategy-oriented model in primary English class.展开更多

To develop soft-actuated air...In order to imitate skin characteristics, a dielectric elastomer (DE) membrane coated with flexible electrodes is applied with high voltage, which can lead to wrinkles and other phenomena. To develop soft-actuated air vehicles and other equipment, lightweight gas is pumped into a DE spherical shell to generate controllable flight movements. According to experimental phenomena and data, the calculation models of phase transitions on circular DE films are built. Meanwhile, the deformation characteristics of different DE (acrylic polymer and rubber) spherical actuators combined with helium are compared. The peak pressure inside a rubber balloon is greater than that of a VHB (acrylic polymer) balloon shell, but the limit stretch of rubber is much smaller. By taking advantages of this phenomenon, large deformations of a VHB spherical shell can be realized at an actuated state. Moreover, multi-layer spherical DE shells can achieve larger voltage-induced volume change than monolayer ones. The research indicates that pre-stretching is one of the key factors to induce phase transitions between flat, wrinkled and bulging regions on circular DE films, and the internal pressure determines the electromechanical performance of balloon actuators.展开更多

This paper applies this framework to China :s-rural infrastructure and a large sample of individual-level data, providing estimates of growth and distributive impacts of physical infrastructures of telephone and tap water in rural China. They all are found to promote rural income growth, helping narrow the rural-urban gap in China. More importantly, the poorer gained more than the richer from these infrastructures, implying benign distributive effects. This paper sheds light on the positive and important role in which infrastructure plays to promote inclusive growth in rural China.展开更多

This study was implemented between May and July of 2011 to understand the local community perception of new residents living in five rural areas, and one city of Penghu, and to understand the community perceptions of these new residents. This includes： the new residents＇ feelings about the community, the new residents＇ feelings about interaction with the locals, multicultural acceptance of the community, and the new residents＇ feelings about participation in local activities. According to the parameters of this research, quantitative research methodology was adopted. After questionnaire studies and data analysis, the key findings are thus： New residents living areas have significant impact on the community perceptions of them, especially in two areas： the new resident＇s feeling relating to the community environment and their perception of interaction with the locals.展开更多

Genetic algorithms are a popular computing framework that uses principals from natural population genetics to evolve solutions to problems. Various forecasting methods have been developed on the basis of neural network, but accuracy has been matter of concern in these forecasts. In neural network methods forecasted values depend to the choose of neural predictor structure, the number of the input, the lag. To remedy to these problem, in this paper, the authors are investing the applicability of an automatic design of a neural predictor realized by real Genetic Algorithms to predict the future value of a time series.
