It has a wide range of pharmacological effects. Meanwhile, it is valued by the doctor. Modern research suggests that DaXueTeng has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and immunosuppressive effects. It has been experimentally and clinically proven that the active constituents of DaXueTeng have a good therapeutic effect on inflammatory diseases. Triptolide was given orally to adult male Sprague-Dawley rat sat a dosage of 75 μg/kg for 35 days.After 28 days of treatment,the result of mating tests showed that all the drug treated rats were infertile.At the end of drug treatment,the density of caudal spermatozoa and the weight of cpididymis were reduced significantly.All the spermatozoa were immobile.There was no detectable damage of spermatogenesis and epididymal epithelia in triptolide treated rats under microscopical examination.However,modcrate and severe damage of spermatozoa were seen in the corpus and caudal epididymis.The content of cytosolic and nuclear dihydrotestosterone (DHT) receptors in the caput and caudal epididymides was increased but insignificantly as compared with that of the controls.However, the content of DHT receptor in the cytosal of the ventral prostate was elevated very,significantly (P< 0.01).This result suggests that one of the sitcs of action of triptolide might be the epididymis. 展开更多

In order to study the effects of Ampelopsis grossedentata on endogenous cholesterol biosynthesis and the effects of reducing blood lipid in hyperlipidemia rats,extraction of flavonoids from Ampelopsis grossedentata by using ethanol(TFAG),and the effects of TFAG on intracellular cholesterol synthesis were detected by amphotericin B-cell model;SD hyperlipidemia rat model was established by feeding high fat diet.A formulated medicine called Xuezhikang was used as a positive control,and TFAG of different doses were administered to the stomach for 30 d continuously to measure the indexes of heart,liver tissue homogenate and serum;part of the liver was taken for pathological observation.The results showed that TFAG could significantly inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol in cells.TFAG of different doses could significantly reduce the content of TC and TG in serum of hyperlipidemia rats,and increase the content of HDL;TC and TG in heart and liver were also decreased;besides,it could increase the content of SOD,CAT and GSH in the liver of hyperlipidemia rats,and reduce the content of MDA.The results of pathological section showed that TFAG could improve the damage degree of hepatocytes in hyperlipidemia rats,and the effect of high dose group was similar to that of Xuezhikang group.In general,TFAG has good antioxidant and reducing blood lipid effects,and can effectively inhibit liver steatosis. 展开更多

Poverty and Agroforestry Adoption: The Cases of Mucuna pruriens and Acacia auriculiformis in Godohou Village (Southern Benin)

The decomposition of the environmental degradation cost in Benin Republic revealed that the agricultural activities are responsible of the greatest amount of this cost (76.1%). This situation is strengthened by the fallow periods shortening (and even suppression) in the southern Benin in general, because of demographic pressure. The promotion of some improved fallow technologies (IFT) was then launched some decades ago. This study focused on two IFT of high agro-ecological value, Mucuna pruriens and Acacia auriculiformis, in order to determine the influence of the farmers' wellbeing state on their farming systems in general, and on the adoption level of these two technologies in Godohou village (southern Benin). The data analysis revealed that: There was no significant difference between the farmers' amount knowing the agronomic and ecological value of Mucuna pruriens and Acacia auriculiformis from a level of prosperity to another; Three wealth levels were distinguished: The poor class (Ayatonon class), the less poor class (Metchivo-Houedeka class) and the non poor class (Hotonon class) which represented respectively 35.4%, 55.9% and 8.7%;The adoption rate of Mucuna and Acacia fallow was globally low in Godohou village (25.7%), but this adoption rate was lesser in the poorest class than in all other classes. This trend was confirmed if we integrate a global agro-ecological analysis of the farming systems practiced by the farmers. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the antidepressant effects of the Radix et Caulis Acanthopanacis Santicosi extracts in response to the tail suspension test(TST)and forced swim test (FST) in rats.METHODS:Male Wistar rats (9-week-old) wereorally administered the Radix et Caulis Acanthopanacis Santicosi extracts(30, 100 and 300 mg/kg) daily for 14 consecutive days. Serum corticosterone level was measured by using commercially available kit.The c-fos immunoreactivity was analyzed using immunohistochemistry methods.RESULTS:The effect of Radix et Caulis Acanthopanacis Santicosi extracts on the immobility time was significantly decreased at high-dose(300 mg/kg)treated group in the TST and FST(47.7%and69.6%,P<0.05), and decreased the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA) axis response to the stress,as in-dicated by an attenuated corticosterone response anddecreasedc-fosimmunoreactivity in the hippocampal and hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus region.CONCLUSION:Radix et Caulis Acanthopanacis Santicosi extracts have beneficial effects on depression behaviors and restore both altered c-fos expression and HPA activity.Thus, Radix et Caulis Acanthopanacis Santicosi extracts may be a novel agent for the treatmentof stress-related disorders. 展开更多
