It is common to only assimilate radiances under clear-sky conditions since it is extremely difficult to simulate infrared transmittance in cloudy sky.On the basis of the Global and Regional Assimilation and Prediction Enhanced System 3-dimensional variance(GRAPES-3DVar),cloud liquid water content, ice-water content and cloud cover are employed as governing variables in the assimilation system.This scheme can improve the simulation of infrared transmittance by a fast radiative transfer model for TOVS (RTTOV)and adjust the atmospheric and cloud parameters based on infrared radiance observations.In this paper,we investigate a heavy rainfall over Guangdong province on May 26,2007,which is right after the onset of a South China Sea monsoon.In this case,channels of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)for observing water vapor(Channel 27)and cloud top altitude(Channel 36)are selected for the assimilation.The process of heavy rainfall is simulated by the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model.Our results show that the assimilated MODIS data can improve the distribution of water vapor and temperature in the first guess field and indirectly adjust the upper-level wind field.The tendency of adjustment agrees well with the satellite observations.The assimilation scheme has positive impacts on the short-range forecasting of rainstorm.展开更多

First, instead of the gamma-log-normal distribution, the log-normal distribution is applied to describe the output signal to noise ratio(SNR) after maximal ratio combining (MRC) at the receiver. Then, assuming that the channel state information(CSI) is available to the transmitter, by employing the Gauss-Hermite integral, an approximate analytical expression of the BER is derived for the downlink of the DAS with antenna selective transmission and MRC. Finally, the results of a Monte Carlo simulation show that the analytical results match the simulation results. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed approximate channel model is effective and accurate, and the derived analytical expression can be used to evaluate the real system performance.展开更多

To explain the important reduction of pollution parameters obtained from its use as a filter bed. Natural phosphate is contacted with an aqueous solution having a concentration of 20 mg/L for 90, 45 and 20 min respectively for the MB, CV and MO. Experimental results show that the phosphate totally eliminates the CV and the WB. While, the adsorption of MO is very low. The Langmuir isotherm applies to MB and MO while the adsorption of CV uses the Freundlich isotherm.展开更多

The present work focuses on natural organic matter (NOM) and its interaction with anion exchanger and adsorber resins to optimize organics uptake. In this study, four different starches (one of them 14C-labelled) with different molecular size distributions were selected as model substances for the biopolymer fraction of NOM. Their uptake by various anion exchangers and adsorbers was measured in column experiments. Results are discussed in terms of size exclusion, anion exchange, adsorption, and hydrophilic/hydrophobic repulsion. In summary, at neutral pH, starch has been removed preferably by size-exclusion followed by adsorption, whereas anion exchange resins show higher uptake capacities than "pure" adsorber resins caused by stronger attraction between starch and polar functional groups of the anion exchangers. At acidic pH, the uptake of sulphate, as competitive adsorptive, leads to an earlier starch breakthrough at anion exchangers. Therefore, adsorbers are more effective. It was found that the higher the water content of the resins, the more effective the uptake is.展开更多
A continuous overcast-rainy weather(CORW) process occurred over the mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River(MLRYR) in China from February 14 to March 9 in 2009,with a large stretch and long duration that was rarely see...A continuous overcast-rainy weather(CORW) process occurred over the mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River(MLRYR) in China from February 14 to March 9 in 2009,with a large stretch and long duration that was rarely seen in historical records.Using the empirical orthogonal function(EOF),we analyzed the geopotential height anomaly field of the NCEP-DOE Reanalysis II in the same period,and defined the stable components of extended-range(10-30 days) weather forecast(ERWF).Furthermore,we defined anomalous and climatic stable components based on the variation characteristics of the variance contribution ratio of EOF components.The climatic stable components were able to explain the impact of climatically averaged information on the ERWF,and the anomalous stable components revealed the abnormal characteristics of the continuous overcast-rainy days.Our results show that the stable components,especially the anomalous stable components,can maintain the stability for a longer time(more than 10 days) and manifest as monthly scale low-frequency variation and ultra-long-wave activities.They also behave as ultra-long waves of planetary scale with a stable and vertically coherent structure,reflect the variation of general circulation in mid-high latitudes,display the cycle of the zonal circulation and the movement and adjustment of the ultra-long waves,and are closely linked to the surface CORW process.展开更多
