A 2 (proximity: local, non-local) ~ 3 (frame valence: positive, neutral, negative) factorial experiment (N = 136) tested the effects of proximity and frame valence on credibility, perceived bias, recall, and reading intentions. Articles that localized enjoyed greater perceptions of credibility but not recall, while articles with either a positive or negative frame yielded greater recall than articles with a neutral frame. Neither factor exhibited a main effect in predicting perceived bias, but their interaction was a significant predictor. In addition, localization and frame valence also influence the likelihood that participants would want to read the source newspaper again. Implications for theory and media practice are discussed.展开更多

Chinese and foreign film and cultural exchanges, the translation is necessary to ensure the realization of information across language barriers to effective communication. Particularity TV drama text language determines the TV drama translation from other forms of translation particularity. According to the analysis of the speci? c case, we discussed the basics of film and television drama translation. In recent years, foreign film and television works more and more popular in China, Subtitling received more attention. Filmography is an important medium for intercultural communication that subtitling has a very important role in cross-cultural communication. Online newspapers offer their audience several opportunities to participate, for example, by submitting comments on articles or uploading pictures/videos. Audience participation has also emerged as a fast growing research field: The motives for focusing on audience participation have been analyzed and the kind of participatory opportunities that news media offer the audience have been mapped. Also, questions on whether audience participation should be regarded as an advantage or disadvantage to professional journalism have been discussed. This study relates to the latter perspective as it examines media practitioners' perceptions of audience participation. By focusing on the case of Swedish newspaper journalists, this study analyzes how audience participation is perceived to affect journalistic work and to what extent such participation is believed to benefit journalism. Based on a representative survey of Swedish journalists, conducted in 2011-2012, and a survey of journalists working at three local morning papers in Sweden, conducted in 2009, the analyses reveal a rather ambivalence attitude to audience participation among the journalistic corps.展开更多

The paper sets out to assess how ethics affect the standard of journalism practice in the country, using media practitioners in Rivers State, Nigeria as case study. The population of study consisted of the 300 registered journalists in Rivers State of Nigeria, including the editors and managers. The survey research method was used while the questionnaire was used as the primary instrument for data gathering. It was revealed that despite the importance of ethics to journalism practice, journalists' adherences to the ethical codes were low. The study also revealed that journalists most times go against the ethics of the profession due to sycophancy, security reasons, desperation, greed, ethical dilemmas, and ignorance of the code of ethics. Based on the timings of the study, it was recommended that media establishments should liaise with the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) to ensure that only trained journalists are employed to work as journalists. Again the NUJ, it should institute standing disciplinary committee to discipline erring journalists both at the State and National levels. The Ethics Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists should regularly review the ethical conducts of journalists and encourage them to adhere to their code of practice展开更多

That is, on the one hand, the journalistic practice has been determined by the alignment towards a political stance. On the other, thanks to the intervention of the state, news outlets---especially newspapers--have survived in an economically difficult environment. Nowadays, the support from the government mainly comes in the form of official advertising, which has become a token to trade revenues for publicity. Therefore, this paper argues that media partisanship in Mexico has shifted from ideological to economic. Based upon a case study conducted in Morelia (the capital city of Michoacan), this article analyzes the impact of the official advertising on the political information published by the local newspapers.展开更多

Bearing in mind that immigration is a phenomenon with a growing presence in society and increasingly politicized, this paper explores an important and persistent question regarding the role of news media in affecting policy decisions, particularly during times of crisis (Paletz, 1998), transference of the issue and the media frames occurs. Having taken into account the agenda building paradigm and the concept of flame (Entman, 1993; Snow & Benford, 1988), the topic of immigration is analyzed in the Spanish main newspapers (El Pais & El Mundo) and in the political interventions (Parliamentary Debates). In order to implement this extraction and framing analysis, the associative method is adopted. The assaults of Ceuta and Melilla (2005) and the Canarias crisis (2006) are taken as the cases of study. The findings of this research highlight that moments of humanitarian crisis and key newsworthy events related to African immigrants increase the media's power to introduce the issue of immigration and to have influence on the frames used in the political and public agenda.展开更多

Those media that, unlike private media, are funded from public sources. The public service, which citizens are obliged to pay through taxes or direct fees, is supposed to provide quality information, to produce and to disseminate content that satisfies the democratic, cultural, and social needs of the society, with a task at hand to preserve media pluralism. The major obligation of public service media is usually for them to provide objective, validated, and balanced information for people, so they can choose freely where they stand on any given issue. However, examples of the failures of two public service media operating in the Central European Czech Republic, Czech Radio (?Ro), and Czech Television (?T), as well as the failures of the statutory control boards of these media, show that the required high quality public service prescribed by law, especially in the field of news and journalism and other programs, is not always kept. Public service media may be partisan and apply elements of modern censorship. This is a censorship that the law of the public service media does not impose and does not allow to carry out. Such censorship, which is a result of unilateral subordination of the influence of specific political parties, interest groups, and opinion streams, is reflected in information manipulation, purposeful agenda development, selection of information and information sources, spiral of silence, in the preference of some political parties, partisan, interest interpretation, and adaptation of reality in broadcasting.展开更多

There is a consensus among political economy scholars that gives advertisers power over media content. It has also been argued that advertisers usually do not associate with ideological enemies. This research therefore sought to find out whether political advertisements especially, during election time, influence media content and whether political advertisers do not associate with media houses they are not ideologically compatible with. During election times, political parties also become big advertisers and newspapers together with broadcasting media compete to get advertisements from political parties so as to boost their financial fortunes. The research focused on the March 29, 2008 Zimbabwe harmonised elections with Network Guardian News a Kwekwe based privately owned community newspaper being used as a case study. This study utilised critical discourse analysis on purposively selected newspaper stories published during the period under study; while in-depth unstructured interviews with editors, reporters from the newspaper and politicians were also conducted to gather information. The findings revealed that in spite of the pro-ZANU-PF Network Guardian News newspaper carrying both MDc and ZANU-PF advertisements, its editorial stance remained hostile to the MDC-T party.展开更多

Very often, the news organization sides with the position of its country, and the journalist becomes "nationalistic" and "patriotic" and sides with his/her country's position towards the war at the expense of impartiality, objectivity, fairness, and ethics of journalism practices. Very often, the news media are used by the military and the political forces to frame wars and conflicts along the lines of the "national security" and "national interests". The second Gulf War, 9/11 events in 2001, the Afghan War, and the third Gulf War are used as case studies to assess the different kinds of mechanisms, techniques,'and "rituals" practiced by the media to cover and report wars and conflicts to their audiences and world opinion. In this essay, I examine, in two worlds, the normals' and the clones', paralleling each other, the true meanings of being human and their lives through the perspective of Jacques Derrida's deconstruction; and I argue that Ishiguro misspeaks to his readers the true meanings of life and death especially through the clones' perspective and brings them to his readers' hearts further realistically. In Derrida's nature-culture structurality of the clones, it is Kathy H. who comes as center into which the other clones come as freeplay in the structurality of the real world, where it is normals who come as center into which clones come as freeplay under the structurality of power in the institutions where the clones' culture comes as center into which Miss Emily's ruling comes as freeplay by the structurality of authorship where the author comes as center into which the novel comes as freeplay.展开更多

It is seen that the main stream media becomes more and more under direction of capital groups. Because of the effects created by the Second World War II, also war and media relation has gain different dimensions. Together with this differentiation, a new notion was born in the field of journalism during occupation period of the lraq by the USA--Embedded Journalism This notion, called as "embedded journalism" in English can be translated as "yapismislik--attachment", "gomulmusluk---embeddedness", and "yamanmis-patched" in Turkish. In this connection, developments which have also been realized in the media economics in line with globalization process as seen all other aspects of life, changing of ownership structure in the media, and increase of concentrations, monopolization will be scrutinized in our study in addition how the fact of embedded journalism has affected the most important mission of journalism, objectivity within the framework of relations between journalism and government.展开更多

Big data is not only a concept, but also a description of a state of society: in the era of the big data, data become important social resources and production data, the news media is no exception. In the time of the data had not been so seriously, the core of the news resources is a reporter on the scene to get first-hand material, is based on the reporter can see, smell, feel the fact description, data is often only a supplementary role. However, in today' s era of big data, although the scene is also very important, but based on the various aspects of data mining and analysis and the depth of the formation of information has become more and more important. Our research proposes the novel paradigm for the issues that is meaningful.展开更多

In Derrida's nature-culture structurality of the clones, it is Kathy H. who comes as center into which the other clones come as freeplay in the structurality of the real world, where it is normals who come as center into which clones come as freeplay under the structurality of power in the institutions where the clones' culture comes as center into which Miss Emily's ruling comes as freeplay by the structurality of authorship where the author comes as center into which the novel comes as freeplay.
文摘Inclination of capital groups--which realize widening impact field of media-to media sector due to relationships based on interests, and relationships/dilemmata between the governing parties and the capital owners have paved the way for a unilateral media structure not hearing the voice of others/local people. In this connection, developments which have also been realized in the media economics in line with globalization process as seen all other aspects of life, changing of ownership structure in the media, and increase of concentrations, monopolization will be scrutinized in our study in addition how the fact of embedded journalism has affected the most important mission of journalism, objectivity within the framework of relations between journalism and government.

Our research proposes the novel paradigm for the issues that is meaningful.
