A lot of studies have been done on various aspects of seed dormancy, and the breadth and width of these studies are in constant expanding and deepening. With the wide application of means of quantitative genetics method and mutant in the study on seed dormancy, a large number of quantitative trait loci(QTL) and mutant genes related with dormancy have been identified, which is of great significance for the further revelation of the detail mechanisms of plant seed dormancy and germination. This paper briefly introduced the genetic variation of seed dormancy in recent years, described the inductive formation of plant seed dormancy from the four aspects of dormancy specific gene, chromatin, seed growth development and hormone, and stated the action mechanism of environmental factors on seed dormancy from genetic and molecular levels, as well as the regulation and control mechanism of dormancy release, with the aim to provide certain references for the study on seed dormancy.展开更多

In order to identify sequence elements ...The 1 195 bp 5′ flanking region of rice ( Oryza sativa L.) cytosolic fructose_1, 6_bisphosphatase (cyFBPase) can direct tissue, cell specific expression in transgenic rice. In order to identify sequence elements responsible for the regulation of mesophyll_specific expression, the 5′ flanking regions of -1 195 bp, -1 102 bp, -768 bp, and -644 bp upstream of the translation initiation ATG codon were fused to the reporter gene encoding β_glucuronidase (GUS) and transferred to rice via particle bombardment. Analysis of the 5′ promoter deletions identified that a 93 bp fragment between -1 195 bp and -1 102 bp is essential for directing mesophyll specific expression. High constitutive expression of GUS reporter gene was found in the -768 deletion lines and another two deletion series. These results indicate the great potential utility of the promoter in rice biotechnology.展开更多

Since human papillomavirus(HPV) is a causative agent in cervical carcinoma, the interactionbetween Notch1 and HPV infection was examined.METHODS Forty cervical cancer samples and 30 normalcervical tissue specimens were examined using Western blot andRT-PCR to detect Notch1 protein and mRNA levels. HPV16 DNAwas examined in all samples using PCR.RESULTS The level of Notch1 protein expression wassignificantly lower in cervical cancer tissue than in normal tissue.Levels of Notch1 mRNA were found to be substantially downregulatedin cancer tissue. Notch1 protein expression levelswere significantly higher in carcinomas without HPV DNAthan that in carcinomas with HPV infection (55.5% vs. 3.3%, P <0.05). Down-modulation of Notch1 mRNA levels in carcinomawas demonstrated to be associated with HPVE6 transcription.Moreover, levels of Notch1 expression were shown to besignificantly higher in early stage disease than in advanced stagedisease (P = 0.001).CONCLUSION Down-modulation of Notch1 expressionprobably plays an important role in the late stages of HPVinducedcervical cancer.展开更多
To determine whether reforestation efforts in the denuded hills have significant impacts on hydrology in the Xinjiang River watershed, the authors examined eight land-cover scenarios to compare hydrologic responses an...To determine whether reforestation efforts in the denuded hills have significant impacts on hydrology in the Xinjiang River watershed, the authors examined eight land-cover scenarios to compare hydrologic responses and to provide a conceptual basis for restoration practices. The authors analyzed a 17-year time period using remote sensing to develop land-cover classification for the watershed. Climate, soil and terrain data for the watershed were used as input in the SWAT (soil and water analysis tool) to quantify and compare the impacts on hydrologic processes. The model was calibrated to a two-year record of stream discharge measurements. The results show significant increase in forest-cover on hills (13%). However, the hydrological response is not very significant considering the changes in forest-cover, the surface runoff and percolation ratios only changed by 2% and 1% over time. Installment of earthen irrigation ponds in the outlets of sub-basin with maximum runoff had provided the most significant hydrologic improvements and could provide irrigation water to increase crop yield on remaining cropland. The study will provide information to the local government to aid decision-making in sustainable reforestation programs resulting in better hydrologic functioning for sustainable water resource management.展开更多

The paper aims to provide new information that may elucidate the modulatory effect of estrogen on the bone-resorbing cytokines RANKL and its anti-resorptive factor OPG secrected by HPLFs which are already force-stimulated. The expression of OPG mRNA is rising after mechanical loading either with or without stimulated by estrogen before. But HPDL cells exposured to estrogen for 24 h before loaded tend to express more OPG mRNA. Compared with the no-estrogen group, the inhibit trend of RANKL mRNA is much more apparent in with-estrogen group. Moreover, estrogen and mechanic force time-dependently increased OPG expression and attenuated the RANKL expression.展开更多
Fault diagnosis of rotating machinery is of great importance to the high quality products and long-term safe operation.However,the useful weak features are usually corrupted by strong background noise,thus increasing ...Fault diagnosis of rotating machinery is of great importance to the high quality products and long-term safe operation.However,the useful weak features are usually corrupted by strong background noise,thus increasing the difficulty of the feature extraction.Thereby,a novel denoising method based on the tunable Q-factor wavelet transform(TQWT)using neighboring coefficients is proposed in this article.The emerging TQWT possesses excellent properties compared with the conventional constant-Q wavelet transforms,which can tune Q-factor according to the oscillatory behavior of the signal.Meanwhile,neighboring coefficients denoising is adopted to avoid the overkill of conventional term-by-term thresholding techniques.Because of having the combined advantages of the two methods,the presented denoising method is more practical and effective than other methods.The proposed method is applied to a simulated signal,a rolling element bearing with an outer race defect from antenna transmission chain and a gearbox fault detection case.The processing results demonstrate that the proposed method can successfully identify the fault features,showing that this method is more effective than the conventional wavelet thresholding denoising methods,term-by-term TQWT denoising schemes and spectral kurtosis.展开更多
The polymer N2200, with its π-conjugated backbone composed of alternating naphthalene diimide(NDI) and bithiophene(DT)units, has been widely used as an acceptor for all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs) owing to its high...The polymer N2200, with its π-conjugated backbone composed of alternating naphthalene diimide(NDI) and bithiophene(DT)units, has been widely used as an acceptor for all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs) owing to its high electron mobility and suitable ionization potential and electron affinity. Here, we developed two naphthalene diimide derivatives by modifying the molecular geometry of N2200 through the incorporation of a truxene unit as the core and NDI-DTas the branches. These starburst polymers exhibited absorption spectra and molecular orbital energy levels that were comparable to N2200. These copolymers were paired with the wide-bandgap polymer donor PTz BI-O to fabricate all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs), which displayed impressive power conversion efficiencies up to 8.00%. The improved photovoltaic performances of all-PSCs based on these newly developed starburst acceptors can be ascribed to the combination of increased charge carrier mobilities, reduced bimolecular recombination, and formation of more favorable film morphology. These findings demonstrate that the construction of starburst polymer acceptors is a feasible strategy for the fabrication of high-performance all-PSCs.展开更多

An important production planning problem is how to best schedule jobs(or lots)when each job consists of a large number of identical parts.This problem is often approached by breaking each job/lot into sublots(termed l...An important production planning problem is how to best schedule jobs(or lots)when each job consists of a large number of identical parts.This problem is often approached by breaking each job/lot into sublots(termed lot streaming).When the total number of transfer sublots in lot streaming is large,the computational effort to calculate job completion time can be significant.However,researchers have largely neglected this computation time issue.To provide a practical method for production scheduling for this situation,we propose a method to address the n-job,m-machine,and lot streaming flow-shop scheduling problem.We consider the variable sublot sizes,setup time,and the possibility that transfer sublot sizes may be bounded because of capacity constrained transportation activities.The proposed method has three stages:initial lot splitting,job sequencing optimization with efficient calculation of the makespan/total flow time criterion,and transfer adjustment.Computational experiments are conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the three-stage method.The experiments reveal that relative to results reported on lot streaming problems for five standard datasets,the proposed method saves substantial computation time and provides better solutions,especially for large-size problems.展开更多

This paper presents a bioelectrochemical model for the activation of action potentials on sarcolemma and variation of Ca2+ concentration in sarcomeres of skeletal muscle fibers.The control mechanism of muscle contract...This paper presents a bioelectrochemical model for the activation of action potentials on sarcolemma and variation of Ca2+ concentration in sarcomeres of skeletal muscle fibers.The control mechanism of muscle contraction generated by collective motion of molecular motors is elucidated from the perspective of variable-frequency regulation,and action potential with variable frequency is proposed as the control signal to directly regulate Ca2+ concentration and indirectly control isometric tension.Furthermore,the transfer function between stimulation frequency and Ca2+ concentration is deduced,and the frequency domain properties of muscle contraction are analyzed.Moreover the conception of "electro-muscular time constant" is defined to denote the minimum delay time from electric stimulation to muscle contraction.Finally,the experimental research aiming at the relation between tension and stimulation frequency of action potential is implemented to verify the proposed variable-frequency control mechanism,whose effectiveness is proved by good consistence between experimental and theoretical results.展开更多
