The objective of Universal Digital Library (UDL) is to capture all books in digital format. A text to speech (TTS) interface for UDL portal would enable access to the digital content in voice mode, and also provide access to the digital content for illiterate and vision-impaired people. Our work focuses on design and implementation of text to speech interface for UDL portal primarily for Indian languages. This paper is aimed at identifying the issues involved in integrating text to speech system into UDL portal and describes the development process of Hindi, Telugu and Tamil voices under Festvox framework using unit selection techniques. We demonstrate the quality of the Tamil and Telugu voices and lay out the plan for integrating the TTS into the UDL portal. 展开更多

In this paper, a discriminative structured dictionary learning algorithm is presented. To enhance the dictionary's discriminative power, the reconstruction error, classification error and inhomogeneous representation error are integrated into the objective function. The proposed approach learns a single structured dictionary and a linear classifier jointly. The learned dictionary encourages the samples from the same class to have similar sparse codes, and the samples from different classes to have dissimilar sparse codes. The solution to the objective function is achieved by employing a feature-sign search algorithm and Lagrange dual method. Experimental results on three public databases demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms several recently proposed dictionary learning techniques for classification. 展开更多

Si hybrid solar cells have attracted tremendous research attention in recent years because of their low production costs and high performance. However, flexible Si hybrid solar cells have rarely been reported owing to the difficulty of fabricating single-crystalline Si with good flexibility. In this study, we fabricated flexible Si/PEDOT:PSS hybrid solar cells with micro-pyramid-structured Si light absorbers using a facile approach. Compared with planar flexible hybrid solar cells with a power-conversion efficiency of 4%, solar cells with micro-pyramid-structured Si light absorbers have a higher efficiency of 6.3%. External quantum efficiency and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements revealed that the solar cells with micro-pyramid-structured Si light absorbers exhibited a pronounced light-harvesting enhancement in the spectra region of 400-1,000 nm and had a smaller series resistance and larger recombination resistance compared with the planar cells, yielding a higher efficiency. Additionally, in mechanical-bending tests, the flexible solar cells with micro-pyramid-structured Si light absorbers exhibited an excellent performance stability after bending for 600 cycles. Our findings lay the foundation for the real-world applications of flexible Si/PEDOT:PSS hybrid solar cells in next-generation portable electronics. 展开更多
