The building brick game chosen for analysis was the Arckit, since it is suitable for the architectural practice. It is estimated that this game can contribute to the design, representation and presentation of projects. In order to investigate in which aspects Arckit presents possibilities of applications, as well as limitations of use, the article approaches the importance of building bricks as a didactic tool and its use in the field of the architectural design process. From a literature review and an empirical experience, this article reports a qualitative research, where the applicability of the Arckit game was checked. Through a critical reflection based on that experience, it was possible to conclude that whereas its limitations to urban form and linked to the formal vocabulary that composes the grammar of these bricks, the Arckit building bricks represent in architecture a playful and experimental way to think and design, fomenting the creativity and the spatial perception, resulting in a particular experience that can make architecture better connected with dreams and joy.展开更多

Students with special needs too are now able to study in a general classroom setting, access relevant technologies and use them for higher cognitive development, helping them integrate with their surroundings. However, existing literature shows that though multiple learning tools exist that do enhance learning in special needs students, they either cater to specific areas of development such as Mathematics and English, or that are targeted towards a specified category of studentswith special needs such as autism and cerebral palsy. Furthermore, despite multiple laws and regulations supporting the right to education launched by the UAE (United Arab Emirates) government for special needs students, there seems to exist a need to provide classrooms across the country with educational applications that have a universal approach particularly in the UAE in order to include students with almost any special needs. This paper looks closely at the existing literature and highlights this gap, especially in the UAE and proposes to develop such a tool based on existing learning concepts.展开更多

This is due to the advancement of technologies equipped in majority of the mobile phones which makes the devices become more capable of supporting the learning and teaching activities. Mobile learning (m-learning) is a learning tool which can be run on mobile devices. It can be considered as an enhancement to the electronic learning (e-learning). M-learning overcomes several limitations of e-learning especially in term of mobility. It provides more independent way of learning whereby learners can use the application to do the learning activities at anytime and any place. However, as with other learning and teaching applications, applications to be developed for mobile learning must also be developed based on certain learning theories and guidelines in order for them to be effective as well as usable. Therefore, in this paper, the development process of a mobile learning course content application called Mobile System Analysis and Design (MOSAD) as a revision tool will be shared and its testing's conduct and results will also be presented and discussed. MOSAD was developed with the content of a topic from the System Analysis and Design (SAD) course conducted at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). A heuristic test involving 5 experts in the area of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) were conducted after the first version of MOSAD was completed to strengthen its functionality and usability, followed by a Post Test Quasi Experimental Design which was conducted to 116 UTP second year students who took the SAD course to test the effectiveness and usability of MOSAD after it was revised. As a result from the post test, the students who had used MOSAD (66 out of the 116 students) as their revision tool for answering ten quiz questions obtained a mean score of 7.7576 as compared to 5.160 obtained by the other group of students (50 out of the 116 students) who used traditional methods of revision. Besides, usability test which tested on consistency, leamability, flexibility, minimal action and minimal memory load of MOSAD gave results above 3.5 for each metric based on the rating of 1 to 5. Thus, both results indicate that MOSAD is effective and usable as a revision tool for the higher education students.展开更多

Through-mask electrochemical mieromachining is a simple and reliable process for metal surface texturing in which mass transport conditions have profound influence on final machined quality. An ultrasonic stirrer is usually adopted for mass transfer enhancement. However, understanding of the effects of ultrasonic stirring on mass transfer is limited, and is far from sufficient for developing guidelines for its practical application. In this work, the influences of ultrasonic stirring parameters on mass transfer have been investigated numerically and experimentally. With the numerical method, periodic pressure change in the electrolyte over time has been obtained, showing that ultrasonic stirring results in drastic transient pressure change in electrolyte fluid fields. Parameters related to ultrasonic frequency, vibration amplitude, and the depth of anode surface immersed in the electrolyte solution influence pressure amplitude. Validation experiments have been conducted and etched surface profile and morphology characterized, which show that the experimental observations are in agreement with numerical predictions. With the optimized mass transfer, well-defined micro-pits array of 30 gm and a smooth etched surface on tin-bronze substrate in large scale have been demonstrated.展开更多
