We consider a new approach in which the selection index is based directly on the quantiles of the GPA distribution. The new approach realistically assumes that student characteristics have differential impacts at different parts of the GPA distribution. The quantile method also provides admissions officers the fiexibility to target different GPA properties for the freshman class.展开更多

However, the so-called between-class ability grouping which is prohibited by Taiwan government is still found in many places; and Taiwan's cram schools are even more popular and diversified than before. The authors argue that, in addition to individual's socio-economic background, regional characteristics and school attributes also play important roles. Bringing these two factors back in, the causal relationships among ability grouping, cram schooling, and student academic achievement can be analyzed more accurately. Using data from Taiwan Education Panel Survey, the authors' empirical results show that, first of all, in more urbanized area, between-class ability grouping is less popular but cram school participation is wider spread these years. Secondly, the effects of family backgrounds on students' cram school participation are not as critical as they were before. Thirdly, between-class ability grouping and students' performance are positively associated but the internal mechanism still needs further investigation.展开更多

Data set from 250 primary school pupils from the Effutu Municipality were analysed using partial correlation and multiple regression analytical techniques. Among the study findings, that were when the effects of Parental Status were controlled for, Parental Support, Teacher Support, and Academic Motivation still related significantly to Academic Performance. Among the conclusions of the findings are that, whether the child was from a single or both parent home was not important with regard to his or her academic performance but rather it was the quality of support that the child gets from whoever is doing the parenting, teacher support and the child's own academic motivation that were important to determine the child's Academic Performance. The study also found that Parental Support was the best predictor of the pupils' Academic Performance out of the three factors includingTeacher Support and Academic Motivation.展开更多

This study, therefore, intends to investigate Sudanese college-level students' motivation and its correlation to student's achievement. With strong emphasis on motivation, this study is, also examining the relationship between students' motivation and achievement when learning English as foreign language. The participants in this study were college-level students in Sudan. The data was collected from 60 college level students. This quantitative study employed both Pearson Correlation methods of analysis as well as ANOVA Regression analysis. The results of this study revealed that there is strong correlation between students' motivation and students' achievement.展开更多
