Evolution of gastroenterology training

There have been rapid developments in gastroenterology(GE)over the last decade.Up until the late 1980s,GE-training was incorporated in Internal Medicine training.The introduction of endoscopy has necessitated the need for additional training.Around the world different national boards have developed their own curricula which will be discussed in this paper. Emphasis will be placed on the curriculum recently introduced in The Netherlands.The internal medicine component has become a two-year requirement (Common Trunk)and the duration of training in GE has been extended to four years.Because of the growing complexity of GE,there are now four subspecialties:Interventional Endoscopy,Neuromotility, Oncology and Hepatology that trainees can choose from.These subspecialties each have predefined specific requirements.The World Gastroenterology Organization has drawn up a standard curriculum which can be of help to the boards in different countries. The curriculum emphasizes the knowledge and skill components.The curriculum also defines the training recommendations,the requirements of training facilities and competence evaluation of fellows and facilities,while less is said about research,finance and the number of gastroenterologists required.In the coming decades the curriculum will need to be revised continuously.Personalization of the curriculum will be the next challenge for the years to come.

Discussion on the Construction of College English Formative Assessment Mode

According to College English Curriculum Requirements and current educational situations, it is necessary and important to construct new college English formative assessment mode. Presenting the comparative analysis of summative assessment and formative assessment, discussing respective definitions and features of summative assessment and formative assessment, this paper attempts to construct the formative assessment mode in college English teaching mode of autonomous learning, and combine formative assessment and summative assessment. It perfectly applies to teaching reform subject of non-English major in three aspects, including background, research basis, research object and research content. This paper comprehensively and systematically investigates and analyzes the cultivating process of college students＇ autonomous learning ability, presents the influence on language learning and teaching as well as the influence on students＇ academic achievements and motivation in formative assessment.

Promotion of Process-Based Metacognitive Instruction in College L2 Listening Course

Metacognition has been quite a buzzword in recent research on language learning, in particular second language learning. As a concept originally coined in the field of psychology, metacognition has been extensively discussed in second language acquistion field, because increasingly more researchers point to the significant role learners＇ metacognition plays in their language learning. However, as a psychological concept, many teachers feel metacognition is a rather elusive concept for them to concretize in everyday pedagogy. To shed light on classroom teaching, this paper deciphers this concept to our language teachers. It mainly focuses on the constructs of metacognition, the development of this concept in language learning area, and the practice of implementing metacognitive instruction in language classrooms.

ESP Needs Analysis： A Case Study of PEH Students, University of Khartoum

Needs analysis is considered a necessary first step in designing ESP courses. This study, therefore, aims at analysing students at the Faculty of Public and Environmental Health （PEH） at the University of Khartoum （U of K）, Sudan, needs for English language. The study adopted the needs analysis framework suggested by Dudley-Evans and St John （1998） focusing on target needs analysis, present situation analysis, and learning means needs analysis. The study used a questionnaire, a proficiency test, and an interview to collect data. The participants were 490 students at PEH （390 participated in the questionnaire and 100 in the proficiency test） and two professors at the Faculty. The study found that PEH students need English language for academic study. The students rated their proficiency as good, but the test revealed that they were of weak proficiency. All the four skills in addition to vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation are regarded as important to the students. Similarly, almost all the sub-skills are found to be important. The students have a variety of leaming needs such as learning in pairs, groups, and through ICT. The study recommends that PEH students＇ proficiency should be raised and a course that meets the students＇ needs is needed.

Implications of exergaming for the physical education curriculum in the 21st century

Exergaming provides an initial situationally interesting environment in physical education （PE） that serves to motivate novice players to engage in PE or physical activity. Current research suggests, however, that as students persist in this activity their situational interest decreases as their ability to exercise consistently at moderate intensity levels increases. In this article I will briefly review the literature citing benefits of exergaming and the role of exergaming in contemporary PE curricula before turning to the question of the place of exergaming in a learning- oriented approach to PE. I will suggest that exergaming, when taught within a situated learning framework, can contribute to student under- standing of the effects of exercise on their bodies and may produce meaningful lessons to assist students to create, monitor, and adapt a fitness plan to participate in life long exercise using a variety of physical activities. Introducing Sustainability Concepts Into University Curricula Through Systems Thinking

The aim of this paper is to explore the major issues involved in introducing sustainability concepts into university curricula in an interdisciplinary manner, through Systems Thinking. It is generally accepted that a holistic approach is essential in sustainability studies, but teaching such a new and complex topic to a diverse student population is by no means easy. In this study, sustainability is viewed in the context of Systems Thinking, particularly in Complexity Management domain. A general framework is proposed with the intension of guiding potential instructors who are planning to teach sustainability through Systems Thinking. The framework includes only the suggested systems-oriented material and a review of some system methodologies; it does not cover sustainability issues. Methodologies known as System Dynamics and Soft Cybernetics are explored and emphasized particularly in the paper due to their importance. The framework is kept general enough so that it appeals to students and instructors with a variety of background.

Guidance of CET Translation Test for College English Teaching Reform

English teaching reform are launched nationwide, involving curriculum, classroom teaching as well as many other aspects of language proficiency test. Its purpose is to change the past neglect of English proficiency training. Newly created translation project in CET will play a huge role in promoting direction on the teaching reform and further clarify the core teaching reform.

Developing Effective Teaching of Listening Practices in the College English Course —— ＂Let Listening Teachers of English See Trees and See the Forest as well＂

This paper begins with an analysis of the difficulties and problems in teaching listening to EFL students. To deal with these issues, it outlines three teaching procedures and describes the unique features and tasks in each stage of teaching. Teachers should be able to identify what technical and procedural issues are involved in their teaching. The authors point out that listening should be task-oriented and accompanied with effective means of evaluation. The paper ends with a discussion of the part of the role-playing and the interactive activities in the listening process and the student engagement.

Study on the Practice Teaching Quality Guarantee and Monitoring System of English Program in Local Colleges and Universities

In today＇ s society, there are increasingly more new requirements on English education in local colleges and universities, and also there are some problems to be exposed. A great difference exists between the language application ability of learners and the actual conditions of teaching; great investments are put by both schools and teachers into teaching, but the teaching quality is not improved and also the teaching effect is not very ideal; the pass rate and excellent rate of CET4 and CET6 are pursued by many Chinese colleges and universities, and the strategy with an ocean of paper and examination-oriented intensive training methods are even applied, so that the internal rules of language teaching are seriously damaged.

Foundation of Graduate Study in Mechanical EngineeringmAdvanced Dynamics

Dynamics is the foundation of undergraduate study in mechanical engineering. If you are good in dynamics, you will be good on all other courses. Advanced dynamics is the foundation for graduate study. The author taught advanced dynamics for more than ten years, this is the author＇s observation. Why it is so？ Because the course of advanced dynamics covers usually many mathematical fundamentals such as vectors, tensors, matrices and rotation operators; principles and applications in dynamics from particle dynamics to rigid body motion, from small oscillation to vibration of systems with multiple degrees of freedom, the author＇s course covers also special relativity theory. They are very innovative. And they set the foundation for the study of all the graduate courses. Science is always in progress, dynamics is in the same form. Just say a few examples to illustrate the frontier of dynamics： missile shooting missile is important in our defense, the author covered this as an example in particle dynamics. Space ship travels from Earth to Mars is another example. Several rotational motions with different axes can be combined to one through the use of rotation operator. This is important because it usually can save time. All these examples will be included in this paper in some details.

Study on the Scaffolding Teaching of Three-dimensional Animation Foundation based on Modularization

In this paper, the teaching of course Three-dimensional Animation Foundation is designed mainly based on teaching content modularization and scaffolding teaching model. The modularized content design for Three-dimensional Animation Foundation is specifically expounded, and also the ideas for developing the scaffolding teaching model are analyzed. How to integrate the scaffolding teaching model into course teaching is introduced in details. Finally, new methods for guiding students to think independently in course teaching and improve students＇ self-awareness and self-learning ability are proposed.

The Application of Classroom Collaboration and Extracurricular Collaborative Activities to Non-English Majors

This paper talks about the research of application of collaborative learning to non-English majors in Dalian University, First of all, the paper gives a brief review of the theoretical background of collaborative learning. Next, it states the reasons why collaborative learning is ineffective in China and points out the necessity to apply the approach to non-English majors in China. Then, exemplifications of the application of classroom collaboration and extracurricular collaborative activities to non-English majors in our university are given. Finally, research findings are presented.

On the Ecological Evaluation of Iranian Secondary Schools English Language Course Books in Light Intercultural Communicative Competence： Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude

With the spread of English language around the world and its status as an international language, the need for more communication is felt. One pivoting aspect of this communication is the role of culture which can contribute to the success of communication at the global level and the co-construction of identities as individuals from different parts of the world get into interactions. Thus, the role of materials developed for learning English, especially the local ones, in the improvement of individuals＇ intercultural competence is significant. New course books for learning English at Iranian secondary schools entitled Prospect series have been developed recently. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to evaluate the first and the second books of this series in light of Byram＇s model of Intercultural Communicative Competence （1CC）. Based on this model, ICC consists of three dimensions of attitude, knowledge, skills, and five saviors of knowledge, attitude, discovery, interaction, and critical thinking. To do the evaluation of the course books, the checklist developed based on these five saviors was used to evaluate the tasks for each unit of the books. The evaluation was done separately by each of the researchers in the study and inter-rater reliability showed a high level of Cronbach alpha. The findings indicated that about 90 percent of the activities of Prospect 1 and Prospect 2 lack the skills required for improving English language learners＇ ICC. They mostly focus on Iranian culture which might have been improved via learners＇ first language as well. This might imply the need for the adaptation of Prospect series activities in light of ICC so that Iranian English language learners can take advantage of their communication with the rest of the world.

Assessment on a Hybrid Master of Science Program in Mathematics

A fully online MS program in mathematical science using hybrid synchronous instruction developed at the University of West Florida （UWF） has been successfully implemented since fall 2009. Distance students are taught simultaneously with on-campus students in the same classes. The assessment results show that the developed model is flexible, cost efficient and benefits both groups of students. It also showed that the distance students do as well as the face-to-face students when this model is used.

A Survey on College English Learning Burnou

Based on burnout theories and published researches in this field, a survey is done on non-majors＇ college English learning burnout through the methods of questionnaire and interview. A considerable degree of burnout is found among freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, regardless of gender, though there are gender differences in different aspects of learning burnout. Insights are drawn from the research data involving such aspects as learner autonomy, teaching style, curriculum design, rapport, modernized facilities, employment awareness, and so on, with an aim to suggest some strategies to overcome learning burnout and improve students＇ language competence. Future research might extend the present study to English majors and attempt a comparison in between.

Mechanical Design and Students＇ Creativity ＂Think outside the Box＂

A design project was used in junior level mechanical design course to challenge the students＇ creativity skills. Beside the theoretical foundation of the course subject, the students were introduced to several professional skills such as： decision making tools, technical review meetings, interaction with customers, and teamwork skills. The design challenge was to develop a bike rack to meet a list of technical and marketing constraints. Details of the project requirements are presented with a brief overview of the main project mentoring tools. Students＇ creativity is discussed through two samples of the student work. It was noticed that, the basic creativity skills of the students can be improved by using some of the training tools, however, the students vary in their response to this training.

Introducing CFD and Wind Tunnel Testing in an Undergraduate Fluid Mechanics Course

CFD （computational fluid dynamics） is following the trend of CAD and FEA （finite element analysis） to undergraduate education especially with recent advances in commercial codes. It will soon take its place as an expected skill for new engineering graduates. CFD was added as a component to an experiment in a junior level fluid mechanics course. The objectives were to introduce CFD, as an analysis tool, to the students and to support the theoretical concepts of the course. The students were asked to complete an experimental two-dimensional study for a wing in a wind tunnel, to use CFD to simulate the flow, and to predict the aerodynamic lift using CFD as well as the experimentally obtained pressure distribution. In addition, they had to compare their results to published data for the studied wing. Details of the course, the wind tunnel test and the CFD simulations are presented. Samples from the students＇ work are used in the discussion. The lab activities were successfully completed by the students and the learning objectives were well addressed. One of the valuable outcomes from this lab was the opportunity for the students to integrate multiple fluid mechanics analysis tools and learn about the limits for each tool. CFD also enhanced the learning in the lab activities and increased students＇ interest in the subject.
