Visualizing the Knowledge Domain of Motor Speech Disorders:A Scientific Review(2000-2019)

This review visualizes the knowledge domain of motor speech disorders(MSDs) in linguistics between 2000 and 2019 by means of scientometric methods. With topic searches, the study collected 869 bibliographic records and 20, 411 references from Web of Science Core Collection(WoSCC) of Thomson Reuter. The clustered and visualized document co-citation network of the MSDs knowledge domain in CiteSpace identifies 15 research foci in different periods, including apraxia of speech, acoustics, children, technology, aphemia, childhood apraxia of speech, primary progressive aphasia, speech motor delay, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, rhythm,foreign accent syndrome, phonation, phonological awareness, dose and speech perception.Revolving around linguistics, these foci could be divided into studies on speech characteristics of MSDs in terms of phonology and phonetics, remedies for MSDs in terms of neurolinguistics and acoustic phonetics, dysarthria secondary to neurological diseases based on pathological linguistics,subtypes of apraxia of speech, methods of MSDs based on auditory phonetics and a newly recognized subtype of MSDs. Meanwhile, the emerging trends of MSDs in linguistics are detected by the analysis of reference citation bursts, suggesting growing research in remedies for MSDs with the focus on assessments and effectiveness of treatments, speech characteristics and indexes of dysarthria secondary to neurological diseases and assistance to diagnose apraxia of speech. To sum up, the review has indicated that the acoustic measures to assess MSDs and acoustic remedies for dysarthria may not only be the past foci but also be future trends.

On College English lexical teaching

Vocabulary is a fundamental element of a language. It undertakes the task of conveying semantic meanings. And it guarantees the implement of language communication. Thus, accumulation of a certain amount of vocabulary and the master of proper use of them is the essential condition of skillful employment of a language. The current lexical teaching in College English is far from satisfaction. Based on the findings of psycholinguistic research, this paper intends to explore an effective way to help the students enlarge their vocabulary and use them correctly with the help of various psychological associations with English vocabulary through analysis of some lexical mistakes committed in students＇ daily writing exercises.

The presentation aims at addressing the most frequently applied strategies for language learning adopted by Polish students of English at the university level. For the purpose of data collection, R. Oxford＇s Strategy Inventory for Language Learning （SILL） is adopted. The analysis is an attempt at identifying common existing patterns or preferred ways of language processing among learners at advanced level of language mastery.

Creative Interaction in an Actional Approach on Second Language Acquisition

In the acquisition of a second language, the learner feels motivated to create verbal exchanges in order to build relationships with his/her partners but especially xo grow discursive and formative skills at the same time. Under this aspect, we＇re going to investigate, firstly, what the role of creativity is in interactions in the language class. On the other hand, the adoption of creative interaction techniques allows the group to take a new look in the face of its learning （apprenticeship）, to better manage its potential. Finally, it would be interesting to propose the realization of a project of creative communication, to re-explore creativity in problem solving through the techniques of the game, giving more importance to the performance of more or less complex tasks and the development of the project in a holistic and action-oriented approach.

The Interpretation of the Reference of ＂Now＂ in Written Messages： An Experimental View

The semantics of pure indexicals ＂I,＂ ＂here,＂ and ＂now＂ has been discussed in the area of philosophy of language. According to David Kaplan, in face-to-face communication, ＂I,＂ ＂here,＂ and ＂now＂ refer respectively to the agent, the place, and the time of the context of utterance. In recorded and written messages, however, the identification of pure indexical references is nontrivial, given that there is a gap between the time of utterance and that of interpretation. In the literature, four major views are proposed from a philosophical perspective. While these are theoretically competing, no empirical data or pragmatic analyses have been provided. How is the reference of ＂now＂ in written messages interpreted？ Which views proposed in the literature are supported empirically？ This paper investigates these questions from experimental and pragmatic perspectives.

A Proposal for a New Curriculum for EFL Education of China： Integrated Content-Based Instruction

Much debate has surrounded the question of whether middle-school students can learn academic content if they do not yet have a high level of proficiency in the English language, but content-based instruction has already been used to promote both the linguistic and academic development of CLD （culturally and linguistically diverse） students in the grade K-12 in Western countries. This proposal discusses the issues and dilemmas about the curriculum implementation in the EFL （English as a foreign language） education in China’s middle-schools and examines the nature of integrated contend-based （ICB） instruction by providing its rationale, definition, evolution, and delivery, and based on the above, it explores an excellent venue that the ICB could provide for Chinese student’s EFL learning and calls for the application of the curriculum of ICB into the EFL instruction in China’s secondary education.

Silence in Conversation

Types of communicative behaviors consists of verbal communication and non-verbal communication. It is generally believed that the latter refers to concrete language people use to produce an utterance, while the latter mainly refers to body language as well as silence in a conversation. Silence is another way of communication and is part of a conversation. In different culture, silence may have different representative meanings and intentions, because of the various cultural background of each country or nation in the whole world. From the perspective ofpragmatics, silence plays an important role in a particular situation, and it has its own functions in communication.

The Significance of Image Schema in Embodied Cognition

As a recurring pattern of sensory-motor-affective experience, image schema is not only a concept discussed in linguistics and psychology, but also a significant one in the study of embodied cognition. Through analyzing the features of image schema considered by the authors as embodiment, recessiveness, sedimentation, logicality, scientificity, and dependency to cognitive metaphors and reviewing the definition of embodied cognition, the paper argues that image schema is an integration of bodily property and mental property, and accordingly a core and inseparable concept of embodied cognition by bridging body and mind. Image schema can help to explain how abstraction and inference generate from body-environment interactions, thus making the theory of embodied cognition more persuasive and reliable.

English Cultural Introduction Teaching from the Perspective of Applied Linguistics
