A content analysis related to the cross-cultural/intercultural elements used in EFL coursebooks

This study aimed to examine some coursebooks of English as a Foreign Language （EFL） to see whether they involve any cross-cultural topics belonging to different cultures from different countries in the world. Assuming that EFL coursebooks written after the communicative movements in foreign language teaching and learning in the 1970s and the 1980s would have a plenty of cross-cultural elements, it was expected to see these coursebooks would also have a lot of cross-cultural elements, especially regarding their publication dates. This study aimed to investigate to what extent teaching materials used in EFL setting involve intercultural elements. Accordingly, 5 coursebooks were evaluated, and topics and number of cross-cultural elements were presented. The coursebooks used in the study were published in 1998, 1999, 1999, 2001 and 2006 namely. However, as the results displayed, the frequency of cross-cultural elements were not mutually related to their publication dates. The distribution and frequency of cross-cultural elements were not balanced with the dates chronologically.

The Process of Personalized Learning Based on Flipped Classroom

The new teaching mode of flipped classroom plays an important role in college English teaching reform in China. Personalized learning can be realized by flipped classroom. Firstly, selection and production of the teaching content before class is very important. Secondly, the organization of teaching activities in class should be well prepared. At last, the realization of combining personalized evaluation and integrity evaluation system is a vital issue for teachers to consider.

An Action Research on Constructing a Multiple Learning Evaluation System on the Context of College English Teaching Reform

Learning evaluation reform, an important part of the College English Teaching Reform, is not only a basis for teachers to reflect on their teaching method, to improve their teaching management, and to ensure the teaching quality, but also an effective means for students to enhance their learning efficiency and to gain sound learning effect as well. This research was intended to apply action research to the construction of multiple learning evaluation system with the aim of proving the effectiveness of the system on raising students＇ learning autonomy to find problems in the teaching, to testify the problems through questionnaire, then to design a feasible teaching strategy and carry out an experimental teaching, and finally to reflect on the whole teaching process from the perspective of how well the learner＇s learning autonomy was enhanced. The research result is valid, positively testifying the presupposition that the Multiple Evaluation System is a comprehensive one, which makes it possible to evaluate the students＇ progress in the whole learning process.

Development and Innovation of College English Curriculum Evaluation Models

Teaching evaluation is an important and essential part of teaching, is an important means of detecting teaching effect. The traditional way of teaching evaluation only concerned with results of student learning, which is not conducive to reforms of English teaching methods and content. Our school s implemented English curriculum evaluation method combining formative assessment and summative assessment, which reflects the times, openness and flexibility of English teaching, but help to improve the overall quality of students, greatly promoting the reform of English teaching and development.

Analysis and Practice of ＂Idea, Team, and Evaluation＂ in the Educational Reform of Higher Vocational Colleges

In order to meet the actual needs of higher vocational colleges＇ art and design program on the refbrm of specialized courses, the change from assignments to art works and the concept of art products is proposed in this paper, so as to enhance the standards of art products from time, satisfaction, and originality. Then, the idea of ＂synchronously training personal ability with the spirit of team work＂ is introduced. Also, the key points in the practice of course evaluation organization and management are mainly expounded through the applicableness of evaluation types, the standard of the evaluation process, and the diversity of evaluation and rewards forms.

AN EXPLORATORY STUDY OF CONDUCTING PEER REVIEW AMONG CHINESE COLLEGE STUDENTS

Peer review enjoys a solid theoretical foundation and has been widely used in L1 and L2 writing instructions, but remains rare in the EFL environment of China's Mainland. This study attempts to evaluate its use among Chinese students. It finds: (1) Conducting peer review to substitute for part of teacher feedback is as effective as relying completely on the teacher for feedback; (2) Most Chinese students like to get feedback from their peers and think it is useful to them; (3) Chinese students are already capable of effective peer revision, which can also stimulate self-revision.

A UTILIZATION FOCUSED APPROACH TO THE EVALUATION OF A WEB-BASED HYBRID CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN PROGRAM IN A NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY

夏威夷大学马诺分校于2005年秋季学期开设了基于网络的初级汉语对话课程。学生可在每天的不同时段选修参与该课程的网上活动,并接受每周一次的面对面授课。该课程为验证计算机辅助教学的有效性提供了机会和挑战。评估人,同时也是该课程的辅导教师,采用了以Patton(1997)所主张的以利用率为核心的研究方法,对这项课程创新实验进作了形成性课程评估。以利用率为核心的的形成性评估的基本原则是评估的主要目标使用者充分利用评估的发现去理解并改进课程设计。根据Patton(1997)的建议,这个项目经历了一下几个阶段:(1)根据不同的发展阶段确定课程组成部分和主要目标使用者;(2)确定评估的主要目标使用者;(3)确定评估重点和优先顺序,使评估能在一个学期内完成;(4)使用现有的评估性文件进行第一阶段的数据搜集,以期找到优先评估问题的答案;(5)根据初步评估的结果,采取改进措施;(6)进行第二阶段的数据搜集,以期找到重点评估问题的答案,同时对改进措施予以评估。(7)根据学生的反馈、辅导教师的观察和成本效果分析修正改进措施:(8)设计新的一轮评估,调查发现的新问题。经认真思考,两位辅导教师,同时也作为评估人,强烈地认为以利用率为核心的方法是可行的、有效的、并能增强教师在教学改革上的自主性。
