Different from general probabilistic roadmap motion planning methods, it uses straight lines as long as possible to construct a path graph, so the final path obtained from the graph is relatively shorter and straighter. Experimental results show the efficiency of the algorithm in finding shorter paths in sparse environment.展开更多

Driving fatigue can be effectively relieved by setting the visual fatigue relief zone in the tunnel. However, the setting form of visual fatigue relief zone, such as its length and location, is difficult to be designed and quantified. By integrating virtual reality(VR) apparatus with wearable electroencephalogram(EEG)-based devices, a hybrid method was proposed in this study to assist analyzers to formulate the layout of visual fatigue relief zone in the extra-long tunnel. The virtual environment of this study was based on an 11.5 km extra-long tunnel located in Yunnan Province in China. The results indicated that the use of natural landscape decoration inside the tunnel could improve driving fatigue with the growth rate of attention of the driver increased by more than 20%. The accumulation of driving fatigue had a negative effect on the fatigue relief. The results demonstrated that the optimal location of the fatigue relief zone was at the place where driving fatigue had just occurred rather than at the place where a certain amount of driving fatigue had accumulated.展开更多

But constructing a real virtual environment is rather difficult. The difficulty cannot be compared with developing general software. It has a high demand for software technology. Obviously traditional methods are not competent for the job. Fortunately with the development of agent-oriented technologies, all problems seem to be solved. By classifying a virtual environment into four layers corresponding with real world and considering it as a collection of agents, the virtual objects can be mapped into agents and an agent model can be designed. Based on the idea that the state change of a system is caused by that of individuals and the mutual effect among them, a theory of agent behavior driven by event and belief is put forward. Such agent-oriented modeling method can cope with the demand for handling multi-dimension information. It is an effective technique for constructing a large and complex virtual environment.展开更多

Three main components of the building were analyzed: roof, facades and interior walls. The ceramic tile roof covering constitutes a component of the building envelope and fulfils an important function in its performance, namely in its protection against the permeation of moisture and rain water. Facade coating plays a significant role in the durability of buildings, since it constitutes the exterior layer that ensures wall protection against aggressive actions of physical, chemical or biological nature. The paint coating, applied to interior walls while improving their aesthetic character, performs an important function of protection against deterioration agents related to building use. A survey was conducted of the main anomalies that occur in these components, their respective causes and the adequate interventions, in order to plan maintenance strategies. The collected information serves as a basis for the implementation of applications using interactive visualization technologies to support the planning of building maintenance. During this work, the basic knowledge related to the materials, the techniques of rehabilitation and conservation and the planning of maintenance is outlined and discussed. In addition, methods of interconnecting this knowledge with the virtual applications were explored. The implemented prototypes were tested in real cases. This research work provides an innovative contribution to the field of maintenance, supported by emergent virtual reality technology.展开更多

The practice of visualization involves making and manipulating images that convey novel phenomena and ideas. Visual communication, together with virtual reality environments, is an emerging and rapidly evolving discipline. It brings great advantage over written word or voice alone, as visual sense is by far the most dominant component of human sensory perception. A new smart approach for modeling maritime vessels is described in this paper. Various ways of making modeling relevant for work within the field of maritime management, training and education are discussed.展开更多

Design: Single center, retrospective quality assessment study. Methods: A retrospective review of a pharmacy-led protocol was completed from November 2016 through April 2017. Data from one year prior to implementation of the protocol was analyzed against the study group. Results: A total of 607 tobacco cessation medication education interventions were made during the study period, 379 patients (62.4%) were given an OTC (Over The Counter) NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) recommendation upon discharge and 148 (24.4%) were referred to the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line. TJC (The Joint Commission) TOB-3/3a measure was met in 44.1% of patients during the study period compared to 0% in the comparator group. Of the 75 patients who were reached via follow-up phone call, 23 (30.7%) purchased an OTC NRT and 22 (29.3%) completely quit using tobacco. Conclusions: Pharmacy-led tobacco cessation interventions during hospitalizations have a positive impact on TJC TOB-3/3a quality measure results and quit rates post-discharge. Our results encourage future studies in this area to further establish the importance of pharmacist involvement in tobacco cessation, specifically in the hospital setting.展开更多

The implementation of the Virtual Reality VR used 3D-Games Studio with Lite-C software. The authors also experiment with the use of a VR device, i.e. 3D E-Dimensional wireless goggle to improve the feel of presence for the user of our application. The authors created the original elements of UI campus environment, such as, buildings, trees, campus buses, cars, and bike tracks, as well as obstacle in the pathways into 3D virtual shape that resembles the real UI campus environment. The bicycle movement, camera perceptions, and object collision handling have also been implemented. Our application is subsequently tested by the users in terms of the general object condition, user's respond to the virtual reality environment and the future development. Some result of implementing the same environment using Alice has also been shown.展开更多
