The model results show that some household characteristics such as the number of driver licenses household income and home location are significant.Yet the intersection density indicating the street patterns of home location and the dummy near the subway and the bus stop density indicating the transit accessibility of home location are insignificant.The model estimation obtains a good γ2 the goodness of fit of the model and the model validation also shows a good performance in prediction.The marginal effects of all the significant explanatory variables are calculated to quantify the odds change in the household car ownership following a one-unit change in the explanatory variables.展开更多

To determine how bus stop design influences mixed traffic operation near Chinese bus stops,a new theoretical method was developed by using additive-conflict-flows procedure.The procedure was extended from homogeneous ...To determine how bus stop design influences mixed traffic operation near Chinese bus stops,a new theoretical method was developed by using additive-conflict-flows procedure.The procedure was extended from homogeneous traffic flow to mixed traffic flow.Based on the procedure and queuing theory,car capacity and speed models were proposed for three types of bus stops including curbside,bus bay and bicycle detour.The effects of various combinations of bus stop type,traffic volume,bus dwell time,and berth number on traffic operations were investigated.The results indicate that traffic volume,bus dwell time and berth number have negative effects on traffic operations for any type of bus stops.For different types of bus stops,at car volumes above approximately 200 vehicles per hour,the bus bay and bicycle detour designs provide more benefits than the curbside design.As traffic volume increases,the benefit firstly increases in uncongested conditions and then decreases in congested conditions.It reaches the maximum at car volumes nearly 1 100 vehicles per hour.The results can be used to aid in the selection of a preferred bus stop design for a given traffic volume in developing countries.展开更多

In this manuscript authors evaluated the importance of turning the wastes and of inoculating...On site composting of organic household wastes is an economical and environmentally tiiendly way to manage municipal wastes. In this manuscript authors evaluated the importance of turning the wastes and of inoculating microorganisms and worms in order to unprove the composting process at domestic scale. Four treatments (Control without turning- C-, Control with Turning- CT- inoculated Mountain Microorganism with turning- MM- and Worms without turning- W-) were tested in a random experiment with tour replicates. Sixteen composting bins were fed with 300 kg of organic wastes from a local street market. The process of compostnig lasted 13 weeks after which all the composts were sifted and submitted to a range of chemical, physical and biological analysis. According to the results MM slightly increased the initial temperature and enzymatic activiry. This investigation outcome don't provide of sufficient grounds for a precise recommendation about worms inoculation in compost bins. A decrease between 75% and 80% in the fresh weight of the organic waste was found in the first thirteen weeks after starting the composting process in all the treatments. The quality level of the compost was acceptable, with very low heavy metal content. Turn over helps to keep the product hygienic especially after the inoculation with MM microbial starts. In conclusion and according to the results of this investigation, the use of 320 L compost bins for the organic waste management is strongly advisable.展开更多

The standard specifies three kinds of ethanol gasoline, namely E10 (90 RON), E10 (93 RON) and E10 (95 RON). There were ethanol gasoline grades (90 RON and 93 RON) and conventional unleaded gasoline(97 RON) available in the areas where tests were carried out. Vehicle owners were worded about the harmful action of ethanol to their vehicles because of lack of knowledge regarding ethanol fuel, and they only refueled their cars with conventional 97 RON unleaded gasoline. This idea might cause unnecessary costs to customers and could bring about difficulty to the tests as well. Besides, some other technical questions emerged during the experimental application of ethanol gasoline, such as water content, ethanol content in gasoline, etc. Based on the experiences accumulated during the application tests, the national standard GB 18351-2001 "Ethanol Gasoline for Motor Vehicles" was revised. The karst process acts as carbon sequestration for atmospheric CO_2.The amount of karst carbon sequestration (KCS) depends on the discharge of karst catchment and inorganic carbon concentration of the water body.Based...The karst process acts as carbon sequestration for atmospheric CO_2.The amount of karst carbon sequestration (KCS) depends on the discharge of karst catchment and inorganic carbon concentration of the water body.Based on the data from the monitoring station on Banzhai subterranean stream located in Maolan National Nature Reserve of Guizhou province,the process and influence factors of KCS have been analyzed.It shows that the amount of KCS is about 353 t C per year in the catchment of Banzhai subterranean stream,and there is good linear relationship between the strength of KCS and discharge of the stream at various time scales.Therefore,how to monitor the discharge accurately is the key to the estimation of KCS.And stations with real-time monitoring function are very important for KCS calculation because of strong seasonal variability of the karst water cycle.展开更多

It is found that the conversion to HPs in the Nordic region relies on both private economic and national economic incentives. Initiatives toward carbon neutrality in the transport system are mostly concentrated on research, development and demonstration for deployment of a large number of EVs. All Nordic countries have plans for the future heating and transport systems with the ambition of realizing carbon neutrality.展开更多

Relevant ideas were collated through facilitated exchange of explicated and tacit knowledge, realized by individual essay preparation and a facilitated seminar workshop. Additional classifications and clustering by the author led to the following principal results: the EV as a power source and buffer forms the foundation for most meanings beyond transport. EVs can act both in the context of"shelters" for individuals as well as "community vehicles" with a focus on, e.g., local renewable energy production integration. Reduced to a simple product, EVs can also be designed to make sense in developing country environments. However, many "intelligent" features associated to EVs are available also for combustion engine vehicles and thus provide only necessary, but not unique added value to EVs. Concluding, EVs will take over market share from internal combustion vehicles only if they satisfy human needs beyond mobility.展开更多

The innovative EMU Class BM72 four-unit electric train sets should replace the existing operational EMU Class BM69 ...Currently new suburban trains for the operating company Norwegian State Railways are being delivered. The innovative EMU Class BM72 four-unit electric train sets should replace the existing operational EMU Class BM69 three-unit electric train sets which have been in service for more than almost 40 years. Hence, a renewal of the suburban train fleet seemed to be necessary. Due to the design, the new four-unit electric train sets have unusually high axle loads being used as suburban train for passenger traffic. As an average, the EMU Class BM72 train sets have axle loads which are approximately 22-25 percent higher than axle loads of the existing EMU train sets of class BM69. Hence, this paper will discuss the consequences concerning rail stresses and track deterioration tendencies with respect to a total replacement of the BM69 sets to the BM72 sets. Approved hand tool calculation methods found in the literature will be applied in order to calculate the stresses. Further will works completed by the ORE- committee D 161 be applied regarding considerations with respect to track damages. In this case, relative comparisons between EMU Class BM72 and EMU Class BM69 will be carried out.展开更多
