Due to the difficulty of simulating the whole chamber environment, the analysis combines the DGF formulation and the FEM method, with the latter deals with the reflection from absorbers. With DGF formulation for infinite periodic array structures, this paper investigates electromagnetic field in chamber with truncated arrays. The reflection from the absorber serves as the virtual source contribut-ing to the total field. Hence the whole chamber field calculation can be separated from the work of absorber model set-up. Practically the field homogeneity test and Normal Site Attenuation (NSA) test are carried out to evaluate the chamber performance. Based on the method in this paper, the simulation results agree well with the test, and predict successfully the victim frequency points of the chamber.展开更多

Therefore, their early identification and knowledg...SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection) proves to be a pathology of several manifestations, whose clinical diagnosis is a challenge for emergency departments. Therefore, their early identification and knowledge of the various forms of presentation are mandatory for optimal medical therapy. We present a case report of a 45-year-old patient who was admitted to the coronary unit showing symptoms and laboratory tests compatible with myocardial infarction. Complete diagnosis was obtained only with more specific exams. The manifestations of the disease in the case described and the main features of the disease are discussed.展开更多
In 19 patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and symptoms of congetive heart failure, left ventricular (LV) systolic performance and diastolic velocity profiles were assessed by two- dimensional echocardiogra...In 19 patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and symptoms of congetive heart failure, left ventricular (LV) systolic performance and diastolic velocity profiles were assessed by two- dimensional echocardiography and pulsed wave Doppler at rest and during handgrip exercise before and ninety minutes after administration of captopril (mean dose 25 +12mg; range 12. 5─50mg). Although heart rate and blood pressure increased similarly during handgrip exercise before and after captopril treatment, both were lower with handgrip exercise during captopril treatment. The results from this study indicated that acute angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition with captopril reduces preload and afterload and ameliorates handgrip exercise-induced LV systolic and diastolic filling dysfunction in patients with congestive heart failure secondary to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy.展开更多

While the conductive gel achieves the requirement in making a good contact between the electrodes and skin, several problems appear. A gel-free, non-contact electrode based on capacitive coupling theory was provided in this paper, which was integrated on the print circuit board (PCB). The experimental results showed that clear ECG signals could be acquired in the laboratory conditions by coupling the electrodes to the chest of patients through cotton belts.展开更多
Electrical capacitance volume tomography(ECVT) is a recently-developed technique for real-time,non-invasive 3D monitoring of processes involving materials with strong contrasts in dielectric permittivity.This work is ...Electrical capacitance volume tomography(ECVT) is a recently-developed technique for real-time,non-invasive 3D monitoring of processes involving materials with strong contrasts in dielectric permittivity.This work is first application of the method to visualization of water flow in soil.We describe the principles behind the method,and then demonstrate its use with a simple laboratory infiltration experiment.32 ECVT sensors were installed on the sides of an empty PVC column.Water was poured into the column at a constant rate,and ECVT data were collected every second.The column was then packed with dry sand and again supplied with water at a constant rate with data collected every second.Data were analyzed to give bulk average water contents,which proved consistent with the water supply rates.Data were also analyzed to give 3D images(216 voxels) allowing visualization of the water distribution during the experiments.Result of this work shows that water infiltration into the soil,wall flow,progress of the unstable wetting front and the final water distribution are clearly visible.展开更多

The break-point chlorination is a well-kno...Currently, 15% of the total Hungarian population is affected by either the elevated arsenic or ammonium concentration of drinking water, and 8% is affected by both compounds. The break-point chlorination is a well-known method for ammonium removal, however, during the ammonium-removal process carcinogenic and mutagenic by-products (e.g., THM (trihalogenmethane) and AOX (absorbable organically bound halogens)) may be formed. In order to remove these harmful organic by-products, activated carbon adsorption has to be applied in the technology. The break-point chlorine dose is capable of oxidizing the As3+ to As5+. The oxidized form of arsenic can be easily converted to solid phase by adding coagulant (Fe(Ⅲ) or AI(Ⅲ) salt) to the water, and the formed iron/aluminium flocs can be removed by simple rapid sand filtration. Laboratory experiments were performed with raw water from two Hungarian settlements, where the water originated from a deep confined aquifer. In the studied settlements, six wells were in operation, and the supplied drinking water contained ammonium above the maximum allowable concentration, and the arsenic content was around the 10 μg/L standard value. It was found that higher chlorine dose (- 10 Cl2:NH4-N) was needed to achieve the breakpoint than the theoretical value (7.6). The amount of by-products was also measured during the experiments. The AOX concentrations were significantly higher (21.6 μg/L to 143μg/L) in all cases than the THM concentrations (9-18 μg/L). The needed coagulant doses were also studied in order to achieve the required arsenic concentrations. Fe(Ⅲ) coagulant was applied in all cases, and it was found that 1-1.5 mg/L Fe(Ⅲ) dose was sufficient to achieve 2-5 μg/L arsenic concentration in the treated water. Based on the results, it can be stated that the breakpoint chlorination combined with Fe(Ⅲ) coagulation is a potential technology to achieve the required ammonium and arsenic concentration at the studied settlements. The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched Capacitors (TSC) as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting o...The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched Capacitors (TSC) as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting on an emulated weak transmission line. Thyristor switched capacitor bank was chosen because it is a well known topology, considering the very nature of the direct starting induction motors, which represents a highly inductive load, the use of switched reactors becomes unnecessary. Such fact minimizes the introduction of harmonics components, and also reduces the cost of the implementation. The binary disposition of the banks allows a variable Var compensation with sixteen steps, in this case. The solution makes use of low cost devices combined with sliding window voltage and current measurement algorithm and a PI control with dead band control for achieve the shown experimental results, where the system is able to manage a typically 20% voltage drop, reducing it to less than 4%. The schematic of the developed circuit, the control technique and a quite simple method to calculate the binary weight capacitors banks are also presented.展开更多
Organic phosphorescence materials with longlived triplet excitons that can highly generate active singlet oxygen(1O2) through the energy transfer with the molecular oxygen under photoexcitation, serve as highly effici...Organic phosphorescence materials with longlived triplet excitons that can highly generate active singlet oxygen(1O2) through the energy transfer with the molecular oxygen under photoexcitation, serve as highly efficient antibacterial agent. Herein, we report bright red-emissive organic phosphorescent nanoparticles(PNPs) based on a metal-free organic phosphor encapsulated with biocompatible block copolymers. The obtained PNPs with an ultra-small particle size of around 5 nm and a long emission lifetime of up to 167 μs showed effective 1O2 generation ability under visible light(410 nm) excitation in aqueous media, which can efficiently eradicate multi-drug resistant bacteria both in vitro and in vivo. This is the first demonstration of metal-free organic PNPs for photodynamic antimicrobial therapy, expanding the application scope of metal-free organic room temperature phosphorescent materials.展开更多
