The full bridge isolated pulse width modulation (PWM) buck converter in continuous conduction mode (CCM) for high watt plasma power supply is approached. Reduced ripple current and improved power factor are achieved in the plasma power supply. With a PID control strategy, circuit responses become more stable and faster with low overshoot during load and current changing. The converter achieved high efficiency under 3 to 15kW load conditions.展开更多

Power system utilizes a SVHPWM (space-vector-based hybrid pulse width modulation) for a reduced harmonic distortion and switching loss. Associated electromagnetic interference mitigation and cooling requirements are significantly reduced. Voltage source inverter drives a three-phase MLC200 flywheel. The modularity of the proposed topology also simplifies overall system design and manufacturability. The system topology and control strategy are discussed. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the harmonic distortion and switching loss reduction and reduced line current ripple.展开更多

The electric vehicle charging stations communicate with the grid. In V2G (vehicle to grid) mode, electric vehicles can be used as energy storage units and transfer power to the grid. The electric vehicles charge at night to reduce the cost and the grid load, simultaneously to fill the valley. When grid load increases, electric vehicles' batteries discharge to the grid to improve the stability of the grid. As distributed storage units, electric vehicles are important components of the smart grid. In this paper, the three-phase PWM (pulse width modulation) rectifier used for smart charging and discharging system of electric vehicles are analyzed and designed. This paper includes the principle of PWM rectifier-inverter and direct current control strategy. Also, the SVPWM (space vector pulse width modulation) and system design of three-phase PWM rectifiers are analyzed. A 10 kW prototype is developed. Simulation and experiment results show that the three-phase PWM rectifiers reach the unit power factor. From the experimental results, PWM rectifier implements the sinusoidal grid current and achieves the unit power factor.展开更多

Spectrum of signals sampled by pulse amplitude modulation and output voltage spectrum of the converter with pulse width modulation have similar properties. Spectrum of signals sampled by pulse amplitude modulation contains a harmonic of frequency equal to the frequency of the modulating signal and the harmonics of frequencies equal to the sum of frequency of the modulating signal and multiples of the sampling frequency. The output voltage spectrum of the converter with bipolar pulse width modulation contains harmonic of frequency equal to the frequency of the modulating signal and harmonics of frequencies equal to sum of the frequency of the modulating signal and multiples of the frequency of the carrier signal. It also contains harmonics of frequencies equal to the sum of the multiples of the frequency of the modulating signal and the multiples of the carrier signal. The comparison analysis was carried out for the harmonics of the output voltage of the converter with bipolar pulse width modulation in time domain. The dependency of the amplitudes and frequency spectrum on the wave forms of the carrier signal and modulating signal was shown. Similarity of the output voltage spectrum of the converter and signal spectrum sampled by the pulse width modulation was also shown. In this technique, neither extr...This paper presents a sliding mode observer for sensorless operation of SRM (switched reluctance motor) drive. Design of such an observer depends mainly on the nonlinear model of SRM. In this technique, neither extra hardware nor huge memory space are not required but it only requires active phase measurements. Furthermore, PI (proportional integral) and adaptive FLPI (fuzzy logic PI) controllers are suggested to operate individually along with the SMO (sliding mode observer) to cover a full speed range of sensorless controller. Both controller schemes operate in PWM (pulse width modulation) control mode. The proposed observer is implemented and tested using a digital signal processor. All results obtained with both simulation and experimental investigations corroborate the superior performance of the adaptive fuzzy logic controller (FLPI) when compared with those of PI controller.展开更多
