METHODS: Liver VX2 tumor models were established in 20 rabbits, which were divided randomly into PHIFU combined with ultrasound contrast agent group (PHIFU + UCA group) and sham group. In the PHIFU + UCA group, 0.2 mL of SonoVue was injected intravenously into the tumor, followed by ultrasound exposure of Isp 5900 W/cm^2. The rabbits were sacrificed one day after ultrasound exposure. Specimens of the exposed tumor tissues were obtained and observed pathologically under light microscope and transmission electron microscope. The remaining tumor tissues were sent for 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining. RESULTS: Before Trc staining, tumor tissues in both the sham and the PHIFU + UCA groups resembled gray fish meat, After TIC staining, the tumor tissues were uniformly stained red, with a clear boundary between tumor tissue and normal tissue, Histological examination showed signs of tumor cell injury in PHIFU + UCA group, with cytoplasmic vacuoles of various sizes, chromatin margination and karyopyknosis. Electron microscopic examination revealed tumor cell volume reduction, karyopyknosis, chromatin margination, intercellular space widening, the presence of high electro'n-density apoptotic bodies and vacuoles in cytoplasm. CONCLUSION: The non-thermal effects of PHIFU combined with UCA can be used to ablate rabbit liver VX2 tumors.展开更多

Methods: The ultrasound contrast agent was SonoVue (from Bracco Company, Italian). Instrument adopted Esaote Company Technos DU8 (transrectal ultrasonography). We observed the starting and ending times of transrectal contrast enhancement in the normal prostate inner gland group (16 cases), normal prostate outer gland group (16 cases), and the prostatic cancer lesions in inner gland group (8 cases) as well as in outer gland group (11 cases), respectively. Results: There was no significant difference in the starting time of the normal prostate glands between the inner gland and outer gland groups (P>0.05), likewise no significant difference between the cancer lesions in the inner gland and outer gland groups (P>0.05), but starting times of the cancer lesions in both groups were earlier than those of the normal prostate inner and outer glands groups (P<0.01). The ending time of enhancement was no significant difference among all groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The earlier starting time of contrast enhancement in prostatic cancer lesions by TRCEUS has important value of distinguishing the cancer lesions from normal prostate glands. It is helpful to diagnose the prostatic cancer lesions.展开更多

Methods: The CT materials of 10 cases with surgery and pathology proved SPTP were retrospectively analyzed, including 8 females and 2 males, their age ranged from 12 to 54 years (average being 27.2 years). All of the 10 cases underwent spiral CT scan and also with contrast enhancement before surgery. Results: All of the 10 cases were isolated mass. They were located at the head (n = 5), tail (n = 4), and body (n = 1) of the pancreas. Their shapes were round (n = 3), oval (n = 4), and irregular (n = 3). The long-axis diameter ranged from 2.1-8.6 cm (mean 6.5 cm). All of neoplasms consisted of solid and cystic components. Mostly solid components in 5 cases, nearly the same proportion of solid and cystic part in 3 cases, and mostly cystic components in 2 cases. After dynamic contrast-enhanced, the solid parts of the lesion showed progressive enhancement and the cystic parts of the lesion showed no enhancement. Calcification was noted in 5 cases, such as the spot, line-like, small nodules or patchy calcification. Fluid-debris level and "floating cloud" sign were noted in one case. In one case of mostly cystic components, patchy area of high attenuation were shown on CT imaging which then was proved as old hemorrhage by pathologic evaluation. Seven cases were completely encapsulated and made more remarkable on post-contrast images. Three cases had incomplete capsules, and adhesion to the surrounding tissues could be seen during operation, including one case in which invasion to the adjacent adipose tissues near the inferior vena cava and walls of the duodenum could be seen under the microscope. Pancreatic duct broadening or hepatic duct dilatation was caused by tumor each in 1 case. All of the 10 cases had no enlargement of the intra-abdominal lymph nodes or distant organ metastasis. Conclusion: SPTP occurs mainly in young women and has comparatively characteristic CT imaging features: a large solid and cystic tumor of pancreas, sharp edges, the solid parts of the lesion showed progressive enhancement, a few with hemorrhage and calcification.展开更多
