Obvious correlations between the seepage flow field and the electric field in the porous media are identified. In this work, a detailed experimental study of geoelectric field variation occurring in water migration was reported by analyzing water and grout injection processes in a simulated porous media. The spontaneous potential varies linearly with the thickness of unsaturated porous media. Very interestingly, the spontaneous potential generated in the second grout injection exhibits some"memory" of previous grouting paths. The decreases in spontaneous potential observed during grout injection is very probably due to that the spontaneous potential variations are primarily caused by electro-filtration potential, as indicated by the far larger viscosity of grout compared to that of water. The geoelectric response can be utilized to effectively identify the grouting paths in water-bearing rocks.展开更多

After about 14 hours of irradiation, the pressure in the XeHPC dropped to 185 bar and did not change till the end of the irradiation cycle. Upon completion of exposure, part of the gas from XeHPC was bypassed into a separate reservoir to measure the xenon composition by mass-analyzer QMA-200. After the opening of the XeHPC, an inner assembly without xenon was fixed at the Ge-detector for measurement of γ-spectra of radionuclides produced in the XeHPC and the background during 15 hours. A visual inspection of the inner assembly indicated that the surfaces of its elements were covered with a siskin green layer. Using SEM (scanning electron microscopy) studies and MPRA (microprobe roentgen analysis) , the element compositions of the synthesized micro-objects and micro-particles were determined. In order to explain the observed anomalies in the formation of new elements in the micro-particles and micro-objects, nuclear fission and synthesis reactions should be used.展开更多

To do so, we calculated the radio spectral index, a (F oc va), which was obtained by fitting the averaged flux densities in the bands (4.8 GHZ, 8 GHz, and 14.5 GHz) by binning the original for 7 d. We also calculated the time delay between the averaged lightcurves and the spectral variance. Our calculations and analysis give the following results. 1) The averaged logarithmic flux density at 8 GHz (logF) and the corresponding spectral index (or) have strong correlation for all the BL Lacs; 2) the lightcurves and the spectral variability have the similar profile for all the BL Lacs; 3) the lightcurves delay spectral variability for all sources but PKS 0735+178, with the delay time ranging from 31 d to 125 d.展开更多

Two types of vacancies, double vacancy and three dangling-bond (3DB) single vacancy, are identified to have opposite effects on the tube size change, which explains the inconsistency of the experimentally measured interwall spacings of MWCNTs after electron beam irradiation. A theoretical model to quantitatively predict the shrunk structures of the irradiated MWCNTs is further developed. We also discuss the fabrications of prestressed MWCNTs, in which reduced interwall spacings are desired to enhance the overall elastic modulus and strength.展开更多
