The guiding role of the current macro-scale evaluation system of urban planning and construction is generally not obvious, whereas the guiding role of medium and micro-scale systems to the improvement of residential environments is improving. There are diversified methods for determining the threshold values and the weights of indices in China's evaluation system. For instance, the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) method is adopted to determine the weights of indices. The advantages and disadvantages of the method are analyzed on the basis of empirical calculation. In the course of comprehensive analyses, a nonlinear model can reflect interactions among indices more than a linear model; the evaluation model under the ARCGIS platform prevails since it combines space and attribute, and it has intuitive results. So far, the methodological system of China's residential environment evaluation has not been established; its subject coverage and research category should be expanded, and its guiding role should be enhanced.展开更多

The methodology for establishing the evaluation system for residential environment was first analyzed; then the subjective evaluation data-base was established by questionnaire survey; and at the same time, the objective evaluation data-base was constructed by Geographic Information System (GIS); and then the related equation system between subjective and objective system was developed by multiple regression analysis. This research could benefit evaluation of the residential environment quality for various purposes, and also provide important rudimentary data-base for the development and improvement of residential environment for officials. Furthermore, the index system and evaluation model established in this research could construct a strong relation between subjective evaluation and objective data; and thus could provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective methodology for the evaluation of residential environment.展开更多

Summarizing our own and literal_re data, the author concludes that the Crimean extreme environment is not an exception: copepod species dwell in hypersaline waters worldwide. There are at least 26 copepod species around the world living at salinity above 100; among them 12 species are found at salinity higher than 200. In the Crimea Cletocamptus retrogressus is found at salinity 360×10^-3 (with a density of 1 320 individuals/m^3) and Arctodiaptomus salinus at salinity 300×10^-3 (with a density of 343 individuals/m^3). Those species are probably the most halotolerant copepod species in the world. High halotolerance of osmoconforming copepods may be explained by exoosmolyte consumption, mainly with food. High tolerance to many factors in adults, availability of resting stages, and an opportunity of long-distance transportation of resting stages by birds and/or winds are responsible for the wide geographic distribution of these halophilic copepods.展开更多

Since, "everyone should be able to enter and use any part of the built environment as independently and naturally as possible", the old buildings should be revitalized with respect to an inclusive approach. However, research on current design practice showed that there is a lack of systematic evaluation and revitalization methods. Hence, the main objective of the proposed UHEM model is to evaluate existing residential environments and requalify them with respect to an inclusive approach. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of UHEM from two points of view: (i) the importance of a systematic evaluation approach to effectively deal with the challenge of requalifying the residential environments and (ii) the designers' key role during the revitalization process.展开更多

Just like other remaining historical districts in Asia, those of Vietnam have been going through rapid urbanization and transformation. The rapid urbanization impacts on traditional living environment. This paper examines the impacts of rapid urbanization to traditional living environment and community linkage, illustrating a case study of the Gia Hoi area of the historic old district in the city of Hue in Central Vietnam. To identify the impacts, a comparative analysis is conducted between neighbors along a main street which were more impacted by urbanization and those along a small alley which were less impacted. Through the analysis of field and questionnaire surveys, it found out that socioeconomic conditions, in particular, community linkage of households along main street and small ally varied significantly. It argues that in historical district, social capital is not well-spread, but rather concentrated along small allies, and small allies play an important role for sustainable community.展开更多

Significant increase of population, urbanization, migration, and difficult condition in acquiring land, especially in downtown areas, have influence the provision of houses and residential environment. This generates new communities that built new settlements to fulfill their needs, without considering the sustainable development aspect. Government's interference with housing development for the people's welfare, especially for low income communities, has also shown the lack of sustainable elements. On the other hands, the communities of traditional settlements that have been survived for hundred years, is a living examples of sustainable development practices. It was observed that in the traditional settlement, principle of togetherness for sharing the common goods has been successfully implemented for sustaining their living conditions. This paper disclosed this traditional wisdom as a precondition for sustainable development in building a new settlement. Two types of settlements have been contrasted for this purpose, one is the traditional lhamahu village in Central Maluku province, and the other is a government funded of new settlement at Bumi Teluk Jambe in West Java province. Among the results is a framework for incorporating the requirements for sustainable development into the new settlement project, such as the Bumi Teluk Jambe project.展开更多

However, such services are accompanied by high initial cost of installation and the operating inefficiency due to the absence of design guidelines. To solve these, the integrated management of the process by supplying the public service like voucher schemes to the dwelling is needed. This paper mainly proposes a research about the healthcare service in a residential environment, which includes medical service and safety service and so on, by surveying the voucher program and the in-house infra status. Finally, the house planning elements for healthcare-based smart home are drawn and the planning directions through expert survey are suggested. Therefore, this study surveyed on voucher program and in-house infra status, and drew the house planning elements for health-based care smart home. In addition, this study suggested the planning direction through expert survey. This study can be used as a guideline for constructing a smart home, which supplies healthcare service.展开更多

These cities are regarded as an attractive area of residence, among others, due to the fulfillment of human needs concerning the contact with nature (green) and living with a sense of intimacy, security and peace. Presented results concern the center of Jarostaw and Laficut. Although both cities are located in an underdeveloped region of south-eastern Poland, they have an opportunity to create a positive image of the city center, where not only attractive architectural objects can be found, but also small-town atmosphere, and natural values forming positive relationships between human and the elements of environment.展开更多
