Firstly, three pairs of current rings are employed as seed coils. By optimizing the homogeneity of Diameter Sphere Voltnne (DSV), the positions and currents of the seed coils will be obtained. Secondly, according to the positions and currents of the seed coils, the current density of superconducting wires is determined, and then the original sections for the coils can be achieved. An optimization for the homogeneity based on the constrained nonlincar optimization method is employed to determine the coils with good homogeneity. Thirdly, the magnetic field generated by previous coils is set as the background field, then add two coils with reverse current, and optimize the stray field line of 5 Gauss in a certain scope. Finally, a further optimization for the homogeneity is used to get Final coils. This method can also be used in the design of other axisynmaetfic superconducting MRI magnets.展开更多

The pressure drop for incompressible flow across a screen of fractional free area a is often calculated from widely used correlation provided in Perry's Handbook. This correlation was developed based on experimental work which have covered a wide range of fractional free area (a = 0.14 to 0.79). The present work aims at validation for a flow in plain square mesh screen with a particular fractional free area (porosity, a) of 0.25 using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) approach. The simulations are carried out for wide range of screen Reynolds number (Re = 0.1 to 105) covering both laminar and turbulent flow regimes. Initial simulations are carried out for incompressible fluid (water) and further extended to compressible fluid (air). Discharge coefficients obtained from the simulations are compared with experimental values. Effect of compressibility on discharge coefficients is described.展开更多

We proposed a novel driving logical waveform generator based on the SCI interface, which can real-time adjust the parameters to optimize performance of the PDP and facilitate the research and test. The use of nesting state-machine and parameterized design not only improves the resource utilization, but also makes it efficient and readable. The design has been written in synthesizable Verilog and fully verified using Xilinx FPGA device and applied in 42-in AC-PDP module.展开更多

The winding structure including a Faraday shield between the primary and secondary windings is designed to minimize eddy current losses, skin and proximity effects, and to reduce the leakage inductance, and the inter winding coupling capacitance. Finite Element Method is employed to analyze the magnetic flux and eddy current distributions. The two different kinds of prototype high frequency transformers are designed and tested. The simulation and experiment results are demonstrated and compared with non-shielded transformers. The shielded transformers have achieved the expected results with a relatively small coupling capacitance, compared with the conventional high frequency transformer. This shield decreases the inter-winding coupling capacitance Cps. The topology of this shield has to be such that it acts as a Faraday screen while avoiding eddy current generation.展开更多

Beauverd is mainly distributed in the alpine grassland of East Africa. Here we sampled 65 individuals of eight populations/locations of H. rueppelii including hairy and glabrous forms from Mts. Elgon, Aberdare, Kenya, Kilimanjaro and Bale Mountains. We then sequenced one nuclear and three chloroplast DNA fragments and conducted phylogeographic analyses to test the taxonomic rank of the two forms and causes for the differentiation (intrinsic reproductive isolation and geographic barrier). The results demonstrate that the species consists of two major groups, one includes the populations from Mts. Elgon, Aberdare and Bale, while the other includes Mts. Kenya and Kilimanjaro. The species has established in Mts. Kenya and Aberdare during the Pleistocene. However, migration rate for individuals between the two mountains was low as showed by gene flow analysis. A barrier for plant dispersal and gene flow would have existed between Mts. Aberdare and Kenya since at least Pleistocene. No change of the taxonomic concept of this species is needed. This study reveals a potential geographic barrier in East Africa. We hope it will arouse more scientists' interests in phylogeography and biodiversity of East Africa.展开更多

The coolant is ejected through spanwise rows of holes in the blades or endwalls to build up a film shielding the material. The holes often are inclined in the downstream direction and give rise to a kidney vortex. This is a counter-rotating vortex pair, with an upward flow direction between the two vortices, which tends to lift off the surface and to locally feed hot air towards the blade outside the pair. Reversing the rotational sense of the vortices reverses these two drawbacks into advantages. In the considered case, an anti-kidney vortex is generated using two subsequent rows of holes both inclined downstream and yawed spanwise with alternating angles. In a previous study, we performed large-eddy simulations (which focused on the fully turbulent boundary layer) of this anti-kidney vortex film-cooling and compared them to a corresponding physical experiment. The present work analyzes the simulated flow field in detail, beginning in the plenum (inside the blade or endwall) through the holes up to the mixture with the hot boundary layer. To identify the vortical structures found in the mean flow and in the instantaneous flow, we mostly use the λ 2 criterion and the line integral convolution (LIC) technique indicating sectional streamlines. The flow regions (coolant plenum, holes, and boundary layer) are studied subsequently and linked to each other. To track the anti-kidney vortex throughout the boundary layer, we propose two criteria which are based on vorticity and on LIC results. This enables us to associate the jet vortices with the cooling effectiveness at the wall, which is the key feature of film cooling.展开更多
