This paper aims to study the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on remoteness and exclusion. It utilises two models - the resource movement framework, and the "information chain" - to analyse a telecentre in one district of mountainous Huancavelica,Peru's poorest region, set in the high Andes. It finds ICTs enabling new and positive resource flows for the two key user groups:teenaged school students and young farmers. These help to maintain social networks. They also support information searches that have improved agricultural practice where other information chain resources have been available. But non-use and ineffective use of the telecentre are found where information chain resources are lacking. ICTs have some impacts on intangible elements of remoteness. In this particular example, they also offer access to some previously-excluded resources. But they have not really addressed the systematic exclusions faced by mountain communities. And they so far appear to be a technology of inequality; favouring those residents who begin with better resource endowments. The paper concludes by offering some recommendations for mountain ICT project practice.展开更多

Moreover, the static energy-efficient power control (SEPC) algorithm is proposed in static scenario to maximize the capacity of secondary users (SUs) and to reduce the power consumption according to the interference from PU to SU. Furthermore, based on the analysis of PU's dynamic feature with Markov chain and SEPC algorithm, the dynamic energy-efficient power control (DEPC) algorithm is proposed taking into account the probability of detection and false alarm caused by sensing errors. Extensive simulation results show that the performance of the proposed algorithms is significantly improved compared with the existing algorithm.展开更多

GOAT is expressed mainly in the stomach, pancreas and hypothalamus. Levels of GOAT are altered by energy status. GOAT contains 11 transmembrane helices and one reentrant loop. Its invariant residue His-338 and conserved Asn-307 are located in the endoplasmic reticulum lumen and cytosol respectively. GOAT contributes to the regulation of food intake and energy expenditure, as well as glucose and lipids homeostasis. Deletion of GOAT blocks the acylation of ghrelin leading to subsequent impairment in energy homeostasis and survival when mice are challenged with high energy diet or severe caloric restriction. GO-Co A-Tat, a peptide GOAT inhibitor, attenuates acyl-ghrelin production and prevents weight gain induced by a medium-chain triglycerides-rich high fat diet. Further, GO-Co A-Tat increases glucose-induced insulin secretion. Overall, inhibition of GOAT is a novel strategy for treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders.展开更多

For special cases, it deduces necessary conditions on the Alexander polynomial. By using the present results and some known results, we show that the Alexander polynomial of an algebraically split component- preservingly (±)-amphicheiral link with even components is zero, and we determine prime amphieheiral links with at least 2 components and up to 9 crossings.展开更多
