Experiments were ...The fabrication of superhydrophobic surfaces and the studies on water flow characteristics therein are of great significance to many industrial areas as well as to science and technology development. Experiments were car- ried out to investigate slip characteristics of water flowing in circular superhydrophobic microtubes within lam- inar flow region. The superhydrophobic microtubes of stainless steel were fabricated with chemical etching- fluorination treatment. An experimental setup was designed to measure the pressure drop as function of water flow rate. For comparison, superhydrophilic tubes were also tested. Poiseuille number Po was found to be smaller for the superhydrophobic microtubes than that for superhydrophilic ones. The pressure drop reduc- tion ranges from 8% to 31%. It decreases with increasing Reynolds number when Re 〈 900, owing to the transition from Cassie state to Wenze] state. However, it is almost unchanged with further increasing Re after Re 〉 900. The slip length in superhydrophobic microtubes also exhibits a Reynolds number dependence similarly to the pressure drop reduction. The relation between slip length and Darcy friction factor is theoretically analyzed with consideration of surface roughness effect, which was testified with the experimental results.展开更多

By the end of 1998, the...In the last two decades, China has become one of the areas that have the greatest potential in industrial production, thus it has ranked second only to USA in the flow of international capital. By the end of 1998, the real value of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in China has utilized has added up to $268.1 billion. The big flow of FDI has not only promoted the development of social economy, but also worsened the existing regional difference by choosing spatial location. Under this circumstance, China’s economy faces new restrictions and opportunities while adjusting its regional structure and industrial structure. So it is more and more important for us how to seize the opportunity, to seek the regularity of FDI in choosing location from the aspect of space, to set up relevant strategy to direct FDI at inland regions (areas deficient of capital), and to make appropriate policies, esp. the industrial and regional policies so as for FDI to exert positive influence and avoid negative influence on China and its regional economy and society. Based on the latest domestic and overseas materials and data of the FDI in China, combining with the investigation of the enterprises, this paper has systematically revealed the progress of development of the FDI in China and the developing conditions of the main enterprises directly invested by foreign capital since the reform and opening-up in China. The characters of FDI such as spatial concentration, transference as time goes on, change of the technical content and up-gradation of industrial structure and their forming mechanism have been studied. Then the basic conclusions have been made as follows. Firstly, FDI has been highly concentrated in space. But as time goes by, it has been transferring from coastal regions to inland ones, from big cities to their surrounding districts, and the degree of concentration is decreasing. Secondly, the technical content of the invested projects has gradually increased and the up-gradation of the industrial structure is obvious. Thirdly, the regional choice of the FDI in China is mainly affected by labor and other productive factors. The relative change of the cost of productive factors in different regions since the reform and opening-up is one of the main factors that have caused the spatial transference of the FDI in China. Fourthly, as people’s income increases and the accumulation of the capacity of the technique and labor advances, FDI whose aim is to get more market has increased and tended to transfer from coastal regions to inland ones. Fifthly, the changes of the industrial structure of the main areas and countries who have directly invested in China and the changes of inter-regional industries and regional policies in China are also the important factors that affect the industries directly invested by foreign capital and their spatial transference.展开更多
The potential impact of the addition of untreated sewage sludge from domestic waste and effluent from textile and tannery industries on agricultural soils is a common practice in this area of study. A proportion of he...The potential impact of the addition of untreated sewage sludge from domestic waste and effluent from textile and tannery industries on agricultural soils is a common practice in this area of study. A proportion of heavy metals in sewage sludge will be present in the soil solution. Soil samples from three Agricultural Site were collected at three depths (0-10 cm, 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm) from the months of June to September, 2007 (Rainy season), February - May, 2008 (Dry season) for the determination of pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, organic carbon, salinity, cation exchanged capacity, Ca, Na, K and heavy metals using standard procedures. Levels of the above parameters were higher in the dry season than in the rainy season. It was also observed from the result of this study that the levels of pH and organic carbon influenced the solubility and mobility of heavy metals. Generally, the levels of heavy metals, pH and organic carbon for the three agricultural sites increases significantly (P 〈 0.05) to a depth of 30 cm, while Conductivity, salinity, organic matter, CEC (Cation exchanged capacity), Ca, Na and K decreased to a depth of 30 cm. The concentrations of heavy metals in the soil samples were higher than the Interim Canadian Environmental quality criteria and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) for contaminated site. Based on the above results, the study underscores the need for immediate remediation programme to control the use of untreated sewage sludge and waste water from tannery and textile industries by farmers in the study areas for crop production.展开更多

This analysis was to assess the suitability of these rocks for building construction aggregate. The analyses included properties of uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, porosity, water absorption, and dynamic fragmentation. The success of building construction depends to a large extent on the availability of raw materials at affordable prices. Raw materials commonly used in the building industry include sands, gravels, clays and clay-derived products. Despite the widespread occurrence of carbonate rocks throughout Egypt, the low premium placed on their direct application in the building sector may be explained in two ways: firstly, the lack of awareness of the potential uses of carbonate rocks in the building construction industry(beyond the production of asbestos, ceiling boards, roof sheets and Portland cement); and secondly, the aesthetic application of carbonate rocks in the building construction depends mainly on their physical attributes, a knowledge of which is generally restricted to within the confines of research laboratories and industries. In this study, H. fusiformis embryos were cultured under different environmental condit...Understanding the embryo physiology of Hizikia fusiformis(Harvey) Okamura will promote the development of artificial seedlings. In this study, H. fusiformis embryos were cultured under different environmental conditions, including different temperatures(15℃, 20℃, and 25℃), sunlight intensities(100%, 50%, and 25% of full solar radiation) and types of UVR(UV-A and UV-B). Then, we determined the lengths, maximal quantum yields( Fv/Fm), and survival rates of the embryos. The results showed that the embryos had the highest lengths, Fv/Fm values and survival percentages when cultured under a temperature of 20℃ and 25% sunlight intensity. The full level of solar radiation severely reduced the growth and survival ratios of the embryos. Hizikia embryos recovered within 2 h from the damage caused by short-term(30 min) high radiation(about 70% of full solar radiation) and UVR exposure. However, the viabilities of the embryos were significantly decreased after 4 h exposure to UVR. According to these results, we propose that culture conditions with indoor natural light and room temperature would be favorable for the growth, development and physiology of H izikia embryos.展开更多

Since the year of 2000, envir...As a new fishery mode of low-carbon economy, marine ranching has played an important role in promoting sustainable development of fishery and construction of ocean economic zone in China. Since the year of 2000, environment improvement, stock enhancement and mariculture development have been given very high degree of importance along the coast of Shandong Province of China. Studies and tests on artificial reefs and marine ranching, including effect investigation of artificial reefs set up in Jiaonan coastal areas in 1980s, hydrodynamic characteristics experiment of artificial reef, study on material and configuration of artificial reef models, algae transplantation and seaweed beds construction, stock enhancement and releasing etc., have been carried out in recent years. Furthermore, the Restoration Plan of Fishery Resources of Shandong Province has been implemented since the year of 2005, which greatly boosted the construction of artificial reefs and marine ranching along the coast of Shandong. By June of 2010, the total investment on the construction of artificial reefs and marine ranching is over $77 million USD. One hundred artificial reef districts, with total area about 33,350,000 m2 have been set up. The construction of marine ranching along the coast of Shandong Province has been in certain scale and the economic, social and ecological effects are obvious.展开更多

By emp...This paper focuses on the flow characteristic and local resistance of non-Newtonian power law fluid in a curved 90° bend pipe with circular cross-sections, which are widely used in industrial applications. By employing nu- merical simulation and theoretical analysis the properties of the flow and local resistance of power law fluid under different working conditions are obtained. To explore the change rule the experiment is carried out by changing the Reynolds number, the wall roughness and differcnt diameter ratio of elbow pipe. The variation of the local resistance coefficient with the Reynolds number, the diameter ratio and the wall roughness is presented comprehensively in the paper. The results show that the local resistance force coefficient hardly changes with Reynolds number of the power law fluid; the wall roughness has a significant impact on the local resistance coefficicnt. As the pipe wall roughness increasing, the coefficient of local resistance force will increase. The main reason of the influence of the roughness on the local resistance coefficient is the increase of the eddy current region in the power law fluid flow, which increases the kinetic energy dissipation of the main flow. This paper provides theoretical and numerical methods to understand the local resistance property of non-Newtonian power law fluid in elbow pipes.展开更多

Low-cost FePCCu nanocrystalline alloys dispersed with ct-Fe phase with an av...The effect of Cu addition on crystallization behavior and soft magnetic properties of Fe84-xP10C6Cux (x = 0-1.15) alloys was investigated. Low-cost FePCCu nanocrystalline alloys dispersed with ct-Fe phase with an average grain size of 15-35 nm were obtained by appropriately annealing the melt-spun ribbons at 683 K for 5 min. The Fe83.25P10C6Cu0.75 nanocrystalline alloy ex- hibits a high Bs of 1.65 T, low Hc of 3.3 A/m and high μc at 1 kHz of 21 100, which is superior to the traditional FePC soft magnetic alloys. The core loss is as low as 0.32 W/kg at 1.0 T and 50 Hz, which is 60% that of nonoriented Fe 6.5 mass% Si-steel. It is encouraging to synthesize this Fe-based nanocrystalline alloy with excellent soft-magnetic properties even using commercially industry-grade raw materials, which is promising for the future industrial applications.展开更多
