In this system the tool/workpiece interface temperature is measured by the tool/workpiece natural thermocouple, while the temperature distribution on the workpiece surface and that of interior are measured by some standard thermocouples prearranged at proper positions. The system can be used to measure cutting temperature in the machining with the rotary cutting tools, such as vertical drill and end milling cutter. It is practically used for the research on high-speed milling with hardened steel.展开更多
The surface performance of workpieces processed by electrical discharge machining in gas(dry EDM)was studied in this paper.Firstly,the composition,micro hardness and recast layer of electrical discharge machined(EDMed...The surface performance of workpieces processed by electrical discharge machining in gas(dry EDM)was studied in this paper.Firstly,the composition,micro hardness and recast layer of electrical discharge machined(EDMed)surface of 45 carbon steels in air were investigated through different test analysis methods.The results show that the workpiece surface EDMed in air contains a certain quantity of oxide,and oxidation occurs on the workpiece surface.Compared with the surface of workpieces processed in kerosene,fewer cracks exist on the dry EDMed workpiece surface,and the surface recast layer is thinner than that obtained by conventional EDM.The micro hardness of workpieces machined by dry EDM method is lower than that machined in kerosene,and higher than that of the matrix.In addition,experiments were conducted on the surface wear resistance of workpieces processed in air and kerosene using copper electrode and titanium alloy electrode.The results indicate that the surface wear resistance of workpieces processed in air can be improved,and it is related with tool material and dielectric.展开更多

It has several advantages of low manufacturing costs, high productivity and high qualities to machine difficult-to-cut materials such as silicon nitride, muUite, zirconia and Ni. A large part of studies on LAT have been focused on a round bar. With increasing demands for high quality products and high performance engineering system, the researches on LAT for clover and square section members are necessary. But, these workpieces are impossible to be machined on conventional CNC lathe and to generate NC code with current CAM softwares. Firstly, a realtime image of tool setting area was obtained by microscope and CCD camera, then image processing was carried out on this image and the gap between the tool and workpiece was calculated. The gap measurement was sent to motion controlling card to make the tool approach to the surface of workpiece. These steps were repeated until the gap is zero, which means that tool setting was finished. Moreover, a reliability verification test was conducted. Experimental results indicate th...In this paper, the effect of of flank wear polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) tools on residual stresses, white layer and roughness of machined workpiece surfaces is studied. Experimental results indicate that with the increase of the tool wear, the surface of the machined workpiece tends to generate tensile residual stresses, and white layer becomes clearly thicker and uneven on the workpiece surface. The effect of the flank wear on the surface roughness is less within some range of flank wear value. The results show that it is possible to produce ideal surface integrality levels by controlling the tool flank wear.展开更多

Numerical solution of gas-particle two-phase flow was put forward based on collocated grid SIMPLE algorithm. Moreover, numerical simulation of dust concentration in fully mechanized caving face was carded out by using Fluent software. Finally, when in forced-exhaust ventilation circumstance, drawer type fan drum have less dust absorption, and most of dust spread to the other site; the dust concentration is inversely proportional to the distance from tunneling head, and the dust concentration has already diffused to decrease below 102 mg/m3 at the position ofx=12 m. Dust are more focused on relative side(in the range about y from 0 to 2 meter) of roadway space of press-ventilated fan drum, especially between tunneling place and drawer type fan drum; the roadway with road header have a higher dust concentration. These conclusions provide reliable theory basis for the dust prevention in comprehensive mechanized heading face.展开更多
In order to investigate and predict the material properties of curved surface AISI 1045 steel component during spot continual induction hardening(SCIH),a 3D model for curved surface workpieces which coupled electromag...In order to investigate and predict the material properties of curved surface AISI 1045 steel component during spot continual induction hardening(SCIH),a 3D model for curved surface workpieces which coupled electromagnetic,temperature and phase transformation fields was built by finite element software ANSYS.A small size inductor and magnetizer were used in this model,which can move along the top surface of workpiece flexibly.The effect of inductor moving velocity and workpiece radius on temperature field was analyzed and the heating delay phenomenon was found through comparing the simulated results.The temperature field results indicate that the heating delay phenomenon is more obvious under high inductor moving velocity condition.This trend becomes more obvious if the workpiece radius becomes larger.The predictions of microstructure and micro-hardness distribution were also carried out via this model.The predicted results show that the inductor moving velocity is the dominated factor for the distribution of 100% martensite region and phase transformation region.The influencing factor of workpiece radius on 100% martensite region and phase transformation region distribution is obvious under relatively high inductor moving velocity but inconspicuous under relatively low inductor moving velocity.展开更多

This paper tries to fabricate freeform surface feature by using smooth surface of tool electrode after tool wear in micro EDM. According to the skin effect theory, the tool end shape in the stage of uniform wear can be changed by adjusting the frequency of discharge pulse. The electrical energy distributing rule of tool electrode section in RC circuit has been investigated under the influence of skin effect, and the law of spark location change has been summarized. The experimental studies demonstrate that different shapes of tool ends can be achieved by varying the pulse frequencies of discharge power supply. Additionally, a micro part of freeform surface feature with high precision and good surface quality has been successfully obtained by micro EDM through adopting the smooth surface after tool wear.展开更多
