The IC consists of a neural signal detection circuit with an adjustable gain, a buffer, and a function electrical stimulation (FES) circuit. The neural signal regenerating IC occupies a die area of 1.42 mm × 1.34 mm. Under a dual supply voltage of ±2. 5 V, the DC power consumption is less than 10 mW. The on-wafer measurement results are as follows: the output resistor is 118 ml), the 3 dB bandwidth is greater than 30 kHz, and the gain can be variable from 50 to 90 dB. The circuit is used for in-vivo experiments on the rat' s sciatic nerve as well as on the spinal cord with the cuff type electrode array and the twin-needle electrode. Magnetic induction tomography(MIT) is one of the newest industrial process imaging techniques.Main industrial applications of the MIT imaging are in high conductive flow imaging.However,recently it has been shown that...Magnetic induction tomography(MIT) is one of the newest industrial process imaging techniques.Main industrial applications of the MIT imaging are in high conductive flow imaging.However,recently it has been shown that the MIT may be useful for low conductive process imaging.This paper presents a cost effective hardware design for MIT in industrial applications,called Bath-MKI industrial MIT system.The system comprises 8 inductor coils and has the possibility of expansion to 16 coils.The excitation signals and the measured voltages are generated and measured using a LabView based system.Two 16 by 1 multiplexers are used to select between the coils.Measurements,excitation and multiplexing are all controlled by a National Instrument(NI) USB based DAQ:USB-6259 and a signal generator.Using the same electronics,the prototype is tested with two different coil arrays;one is a small scale ferrite core coil and one larger scale air cored coil.Experimental image reconstruction results are shown using both small scale and large scale coil arrays.展开更多

It is emblematic of this current financial crisis becau...In the EU (European Union), Cyprus's problems aren't new. Ten years later, the same debate is being held all over again, just from a different point of view. It is emblematic of this current financial crisis because the banking system is much bigger than GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Setting aside the sluggish economic performance, as well as the usual gap between northern and southern regions, people are uncomfortable with the EU. Getting the EU to finance a deficit is very tempting because it seems to be a politically and socially painless option, but can we count on the EU to devise such a smoothly running system? Cyprus is interesting on many levels, from the debate concerning the limits of cohesion policy to the need of finding new solutions for the European periphery. It raises the question of whether a real fiscal and political union is possible, in light of the actual geoeconomic and geopolitical dynamics among the EU, Turkey, and Russia. The aim of this paper is to explore the possible mechanisms for an integration of Cyprus in order to go beyond fiscal burden sharing. The traditional mode of teaching with lectures, still present in many subjects of the engineering, seems to favor the development of the necessary skills, as active use of knowledge required [ 1 ]. However, they are using simulation games as an educational method in many universities in the world for the advantages they present for learning and the development of various skills, to simulate specific situations of professional activity [2]. This paper presents some background and requirements that games must meet educational purposes and propose their use in subjects related to economics, management and organization of production engineering programs where you can teach and learn from building products with simple items like cardboard paper on the theory of constructionism to build a product where people are building theories and knowledge in the mind [3]. The use of games is not widespread in universities in Argentina, however you can generate more motivating learning situations as it leaves the board becoming less abstract and more concrete learning. Classroom climate changes as students take a more participatory role and the teacher intervenes as a guide or facilitator of learning. This work could motivate teachers and researchers to promote their use in teaching and in future research to evaluate the potential of its use as a learning tool.展开更多

Factors of motivation, such as...The purpose of this study is to uncover factors of motivation among account executives in a telecommunication company after the improvement of sales commission plan program in year 2014. Factors of motivation, such as monetary reward, recognition, affiliation, job security, and work environment that influence account executives motivation have been highlighted. Quantitative method was used in this study with the help of questionnaire data collection. The questionnaires were distributed among one of the telecommunication company account executives. The study found that there are significant differences in motivation level between gender, age, year of service, salary, and workplace of account executives. Monetary reward, job security, and work environment were found as the significant drivers to motivate account executives. The study also found that improvement on public recognition and affiliation factors failed to bring positive impact towards account executives motivation. Consistently, the findings can conclude that there is a relationship between account executives and sales commission plan that can lead to increase in motivation. Despite the positive result, the study can suggest the company to improve its bottom-line where sales commission plan program needs further revision in accordance with account executives factors of motivation.展开更多

If staff was divided into executor and manager, percentages of the executor's and manager's unsafe behaviors in direct causes of the accidents were 69% and 54%, respectively, with executor's unsafe behavior as direct causes and manager's unsafe behavior as essential reasons after thorough analysis of these accidents. Further, on the basis of dual structure theory analysis, three new understandings, including transformation, hierarchy classification and representativeness of behavior factors were il- lustrated. Behavior factors of executors and managers in Chinese coal mines were summarized and classified by new recogni- tion. Then, dual structure theory was applied in a coal mine in Hebei Province of China; weakening unsafe behaviors and strengthening safe factors can attain the purpose of motivating safer behaviors in the coal mine.展开更多

T...Studies of causal understanding of tool relationships in captive chimpanzees have yielded disparate findings, particularly those reported by Povinelli & colleagues (2000) for tool tasks by laboratory chimpanzees. The present set of experiments tested nine enculturated chimpanzees on three versions of a support task, as described by Povinelli (2000), during which food re- wards were presented in different experimental configurations. In Experiment 1, stimulus pairs included a choice between a cloth with a reward on the upper right comer or with a second reward off the cloth, adjacent to a comer, with the second pair comprised of a cloth with food on the upper right comer, and a second cloth with the reward on the substrate, partially covered. All subjects were successful with both test conditions in Experiment 1. In a second study, the experimental choices included one of two possi- ble correct options, paired with one of three incorrect options, with the three incorrect choices all involving varying degrees of perceptual containment. All nine chimpanzees scored significantly above chance across all six conditions. In Experiment 3, four unique conditions were presented, combining one of two possible correct choices with one of two incorrect choices. Six of the subjects scored significantly above chance across the four conditions, and group performance on individual conditions was also significant. Superior performance was demonstrated by female subjects in Experiment 3, similar to sex differences in tool use previously reported for wild chimpanzees and some tool tasks in captive chimpanzees. The present results for Experiments 2 & 3 were significantly differed from those reported by Povinelli et al. (2000) for laboratory-born, peer-reared chimpanzees. One contribution towards the dramatic differences between the two study populations may be the significant rearing and housing differences of the chimpanzee groups. One explanation is that under conditions of enculturation, rich social interactions with humans and conspecifics, as well as active exploration of artifacts, materials, and other aspects of their physical environment had a significant impact on the animals' ability to recognize the support relationships among the stimulus choices. Overall, the present findings provide strong support for the hypothesis that our chimpanzee subjects based their responses on an understanding of functional support which represented one facet of their folk physics repertoire [Current Zoology 57 (4): 429-440, 2011].展开更多
