With the development of measuring equipment, cloud points that contain more details of the object can be obtained conveniently. On the other hand, large quantity of sampled points brings difficulties to model reconstruction method. This paper first presents an algorithm to automatically reduce the number of cloud points under given tolerance. Triangle mesh surface from the simplified data set is reconstructed by the marching cubes algorithm. For various reasons, reconstructed mesh usually contains unwanted holes. An approach to create new triangles is proposed with optimized shape for covering the unexpected holes in triangle meshes. After hole filling, watertight triangle mesh can be directly output in STL format, which is widely used in rapid prototype manufacturing. Practical examples are included to demonstrate the method.展开更多

The concrete has a long initial setting time and a low initial strength. So it is difficult to control the surrounding rock. In this paper, we analyze the effect of using roadside cable to reinforce supporting in gob-side entry surrounding rock controlling based on elas-tic-plastic and material mechanics knowledge. And then we propose a scheme that cable is used to reinforce roadside supporting and a single hydraulic prop is used as the temporary supporting in gob side. Using the numerical simulation software FLAC2D, we numerically simulated supporting scheme. Results of both the 2D modeling and the industrial test on No.3117 face in Jingang Mine prove that the scheme is feasible. The results show that the technology of protecting the roadway in gob-entry retained efficiently make up the deficiency of roadside packing with ordinary concrete, effectively control the roof strata and acquire a good result of retaining roadway.展开更多

A novel torsion sensor,which can be embedded in the engineering material,is proposed.Based on the coupled mode theory and the characteristic of twisted high birefringence fiber,we have established the mathematical mod...A novel torsion sensor,which can be embedded in the engineering material,is proposed.Based on the coupled mode theory and the characteristic of twisted high birefringence fiber,we have established the mathematical model of twisted high birefringence fiber grating transfer matrix.Two numerical simulation methods based on the transfer matrix method and coupled mode theory were used to analyze the consequent changes in reflection spectra.The simulation results of the two methods show good agreement with each other.The two main peak wavelengths of the high birefringence fiber grating shift as the twist angle changes from 0 to 360.And a peak was produced among the wavelengths of two main peaks.Its wavelength basically does not change and is about 1 552.225 nm.Its corresponding reflected peak value R_c basically presents the linear relationship with the twist angle α.The experiments show that the system has a wide measurement range.The resolution is 0.012° and the sensitivity is 0.13/rad.Good agreements between experimental results and numerical simulations have been obtained.展开更多
In China, many scenic and tourism areas are suffering from the urbanization that results from physical development of tourism projects, leading to the removal of the vegetative cover, the creation of areas impermeable...In China, many scenic and tourism areas are suffering from the urbanization that results from physical development of tourism projects, leading to the removal of the vegetative cover, the creation of areas impermeable to water, in-stream modifications, and other problems. In this paper, the risk of soil erosion and its ecological risks in the West Lake Scenic Spots (WLSS) area were quantitatively evaluated by integrating the revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) with a digital elevation model (DEM) and geographical information system (GIS) software. The standard RUSLE factors were modified to account for local climatic and topographic characteristics reflected in the DEM maps, and for the soil types and vegetation cover types. An interface was created between the Areinfo software and RUSLE so that the level of soil erosion and its ecological risk in the WLSS area could be mapped immediately once the model factors were defined for the area. The results from an analysis using the Areinfo-RUSLE interface showed that the risk value in 93 % of the expanding western part of the WLSS area was moderate or more severe and the soil erosion risk in this area was thus large compared with that in the rest of the area. This paper mainly aimed to increase the awareness of the soil erosion risk in urbanizing areas and suggest that the local governments should consider the probable ecological risk resulting from soil erosion when enlarging and developing tourism areas.展开更多

To investi- gate the effect of pre-tensioned rock bolts on stress redistribution around roadways, a numerical analysis was carried out using FLAC3D and a special post-process methodology, using surfer, is proposed to process the numerical simulation results. The results indicate that pre-tensioned rock bolts have a significant effect on stress redistribution around a roadway. In the roof, pre-tensioned rock bolts greatly increase vertical stress; as a result, the strength of the rock mass increased significantly which results in a greater capacity of bearing a large horizontal stress. The horizontal stress decreases in the upper section of the roof, indicating that pre-tensioned rock bolts significantly reduce the coefficient and the size of the region concentration of horizontal stress. At the lat- eral side, pre-tensioned rock bolts greatly increase the horizontal stress; therefore, the rock mass strength significantly increases which results also in a greater capacity of bearing a large vertical stress. The greater the size of pre-tensioned force, the larger the region of stress redistribution around a roadway is affected and the higher the size of the stress on the roadway surface the more the rock mass strength increases.展开更多

Current applications of drainage tunnel systems in China were reviewed and the fimctions of drainage tunnel were categorized as catchment and interception. Numerical simulations were conducted. The results show that both catchment and interception tunnels have variation of the function in the simulation of monolayer model, which shows the reduction of permeability condition in lower layer. The function of catchment can be observed in the deep slope, while the function of interception is observed near groundwater source. By using the slope safety factor and discharge water amount as the objectives of optimal drainage tunnel location, and pore-water pressure in fixed node and section flux as the judgment for construction quality of adjacent drainage tunnel, the design principle of drainage tunnel was introduced. The K103 Landslide was illustrated as an example to determine the optimal drainage tunnel location. The measured drainage tunnel efficiency was evaluated and compared with that from the numerical analyses based on groundwater data. The results validate the present numerical study.展开更多

Simulation results give the axial and tangential velocity components, the pressure and turbulence intensity distribution and droplet trajectories for a hydrocyclone of F type and a hydrocyclone proposed by the present authors. The flow field predictions are in qualitative agreement with the LDV measurements. The results show that the proposed hydrocyclone has better performance than the hydrocyclone of F type due to creating stronger centrifugal force and lower axial velocity.展开更多
As a raw material,kaolin was modified to prepare a high-performance ammonium ion-exchange material.According to cation-exchange capacity (CEC) measurement,the prepared ammonium ion-exchange material has an ammonium io...As a raw material,kaolin was modified to prepare a high-performance ammonium ion-exchange material.According to cation-exchange capacity (CEC) measurement,the prepared ammonium ion-exchange material has an ammonium ion-exchange capacity greater than 75mg/g and can be used to remove ammonia nitrogen in water treatment.A pharmaceutical extruder-rounder was used to study the effects of granulation process.Polyethylene glycol6000 (PEG-6000) was used as the pore-forming agent and calcining temperature of 650℃ was used as the optimal condition.NMR data indicate that 27 Al is mainly converted from hexa-coordinated Al to tetra-coordinated Al during the modification.Compared with 29 Si in the original kaolin,29 Si in the modified kaolin does not have an obvious change.A comparison of the data with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models shows a good correlation.The Freundlich model describes the process more accurately,and the adsorption process of ammonia nitrogen in water with the ammonium ion-exchange material closely matches the pseudo-second-order reaction.展开更多

Various numerical methods are available to model,simulate,analyse and interpret the results;however a major task is to select a reliable and intended tool to perform a realistic assessment of any problem.For a model t...Various numerical methods are available to model,simulate,analyse and interpret the results;however a major task is to select a reliable and intended tool to perform a realistic assessment of any problem.For a model to be a representative of the realistic mining scenario,a verified tool must be chosen to perform an assessment of mine roof support requirement and address the geotechnical risks associated with longwall mining.The dependable tools provide a safe working environment,increased production,efficient management of resources and reduce environmental impacts of mining.Although various methods,for example,analytical,experimental and empirical are being adopted in mining,in recent days numerical tools are becoming popular due to the advancement in computer hardware and numerical methods.Empirical rules based on past experiences do provide a general guide,however due to the heterogeneous nature of mine geology(i.e.,none of the mine sites are identical),numerical simulations of mine site specific conditions would lend better insights into some underlying issues.The paper highlights the use of a continuum mechanics based tool in coal mining with a mine scale model.The continuum modelling can provide close to accurate stress fields and deformation.The paper describes the use of existing mine data to calibrate and validate the model parameters,which then are used to assess geotechnical issues related with installing a new high capacity longwall mine at the mine site.A variety of parameters,for example,chock convergences,caveability of overlying sandstones,abutment and vertical stresses have been estimated.展开更多

A customized combined methodology based on both 2D CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and lumped parameters numerical modeling, useful for simulating the hydraulic behavior of orbit annular machines, has been develo...A customized combined methodology based on both 2D CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and lumped parameters numerical modeling, useful for simulating the hydraulic behavior of orbit annular machines, has been developed and here presented. More in details, the predictive capabilities of this CAE (computer-aided engineering) tool can be applied for the study of both roller and gerotor architectures and considering both pumping and motoring operating mode. First of all, an in-house developed 2D CFD methodology, based on the integration of the stationary form of the Reynolds equation for the determination of the pressure distribution inside the lateral clearances bounded by the sides of the stator-rotor group and the valve plate, as well as the internal manifold surface, is firstly presented and applied. The same computational procedure has been also involved for the investigation of the leakages through the clearance between the valve plate and the balancing ring. After that, a lumped and distributed parameters numerical model has been involved for the simulation of a typical orbit roller motor operation. In this case, particular care has been devoted to the modeling of the axial leakage clearances, adopting analytical interpolation functions deducted from the numerical results calculated applying the previously described 2D CFD methodology. Finally, the whole CAE approach has been validated by means of a comprehensive numerical versus experimental comparison, obtaining a general good accordance for the overall operating field of this particular type of hydraulic unit.展开更多

The design of the systems is heavily dependent on the flexibility and self-description of the data model. The characteristics of engineering data and their management facts are analyzed. Then engineering data warehouse (EDW) architecture and multi-layer metamodels are presented. Also an approach to manage anduse engineering data by a meta object is proposed. Finally, an application flight test EDW system (FTEDWS) is described and meta-objects to manage engineering data in the data warehouse are used. It shows that adopting a meta-modeling approach provides a support for interchangeability and a sufficiently flexible environment in which the system evolution and the reusability can be handled.展开更多

The velocity field calculated by th...Using the multiple reference frames (MRF) impeller method, the three-dimensional non-Newtonian flow field generated by a double helical ribbon (DHR) impeller has been simulated. The velocity field calculated by the numerical simulation was similar to the previous studies and the power constant agreed well with the experimental data. Three computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methods, labeled Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ, were used to compute the Metzuer constant k5. The results showed that the calculated value from the slop method (method Ⅰ) was consistent with the experimental data. Method Ⅱ, which took the maximal circumference-average shear rate around the impeller as the effective shear rate to compute ks, also showed good agreement with the experiment. However, both methods suffer from the complexity of calculation procedures. A new method (method Ⅲ) was devised in this paper to use the area-weighted average viscosity around the impeller as the effective viscosity for calculating k5. Method Ⅲ showed both good accuracy and ease of use.展开更多

Effects of the cluster porosity, inlet gas velocity and temperature, and coke deposition on cracking reactions of the cluster were investigated. Distributions of temperature, gases, and gasoline from both catalyst particle cluster and an isolated catalyst particle are presented. The reaction rates from vacuum gas oil (VGO) to gasoline, gas and coke of individual particle in the cluster are higher than those of the isolated particle, but it reverses for the reaction rates from gasoline to gas and coke. Less gasoline is produced by particle clustering. Simulated results show that the produced mass fluxes of gas and gasoline increase with the operating temperature and molar concentration of VGO, and decrease due to the formation of coke.展开更多

文摘As a raw material,kaolin was modified to prepare a high-performance ammonium ion-exchange material.According to cation-exchange capacity (CEC) measurement,the prepared ammonium ion-exchange material has an ammonium ion-exchange capacity greater than 75mg/g and can be used to remove ammonia nitrogen in water treatment.A pharmaceutical extruder-rounder was used to study the effects of granulation process.Polyethylene glycol6000 (PEG-6000) was used as the pore-forming agent and calcining temperature of 650℃ was used as the optimal condition.NMR data indicate that 27 Al is mainly converted from hexa-coordinated Al to tetra-coordinated Al during the modification.Compared with 29 Si in the original kaolin,29 Si in the modified kaolin does not have an obvious change.A comparison of the data with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models shows a good correlation.The Freundlich model describes the process more accurately,and the adsorption process of ammonia nitrogen in water with the ammonium ion-exchange material closely matches the pseudo-second-order reaction.
文摘A numerical approach was developed to analyze the transient behavior of towed cable during ac- tively controlled deployment/retrieval (DR).The cable motion is described by the lumped parameter method, its corresponding boundary conditions are presented.In view of its varying length during DR,two auxiliary arguments are introduced to describe its continuous varying length and discrete number of nodes(equations), the length is determined by the pay out(or reel-in) rate,which is then used to determine the node number by a logic relation.For the discrete mathematical model of towed cable,an algorithm was developed to deal with the discrete governing equations.The simulation results indicate that the cable experiences more com- plex motions due to its varying length,and tension fluctuates seriously in the startup and ending stage of deployment/retrieval.The effect of towing ship's motion in waves on cable during deployment/retrieval is also considered via numerical simulation.

文摘Various numerical methods are available to model,simulate,analyse and interpret the results;however a major task is to select a reliable and intended tool to perform a realistic assessment of any problem.For a model to be a representative of the realistic mining scenario,a verified tool must be chosen to perform an assessment of mine roof support requirement and address the geotechnical risks associated with longwall mining.The dependable tools provide a safe working environment,increased production,efficient management of resources and reduce environmental impacts of mining.Although various methods,for example,analytical,experimental and empirical are being adopted in mining,in recent days numerical tools are becoming popular due to the advancement in computer hardware and numerical methods.Empirical rules based on past experiences do provide a general guide,however due to the heterogeneous nature of mine geology(i.e.,none of the mine sites are identical),numerical simulations of mine site specific conditions would lend better insights into some underlying issues.The paper highlights the use of a continuum mechanics based tool in coal mining with a mine scale model.The continuum modelling can provide close to accurate stress fields and deformation.The paper describes the use of existing mine data to calibrate and validate the model parameters,which then are used to assess geotechnical issues related with installing a new high capacity longwall mine at the mine site.A variety of parameters,for example,chock convergences,caveability of overlying sandstones,abutment and vertical stresses have been estimated.
文摘Based on the mechanism analysis of space form caused by blasting with lin- ear charges, elastic-plastic model of space form caused by blasting was established in this paper. In terms of state equation of blasting and the balance of quality, evaluation formula based on elastic-plastic to estimate space diameter caused by blasting with lin- ear charges was given. The procedure structure of evaluation was introduced. We did 18 experiments on situ and compared experiments results with evaluation ones. They are correspondent very well. Then a new method of evaluating underground space di- ameters caused by blasting with linear charges was given. The method has more great guidance significance to the optimism plan of the new blasting technology that utilizes the explosion effect of the explosive to compact the soil to form the underground space.
文摘A customized combined methodology based on both 2D CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and lumped parameters numerical modeling, useful for simulating the hydraulic behavior of orbit annular machines, has been developed and here presented. More in details, the predictive capabilities of this CAE (computer-aided engineering) tool can be applied for the study of both roller and gerotor architectures and considering both pumping and motoring operating mode. First of all, an in-house developed 2D CFD methodology, based on the integration of the stationary form of the Reynolds equation for the determination of the pressure distribution inside the lateral clearances bounded by the sides of the stator-rotor group and the valve plate, as well as the internal manifold surface, is firstly presented and applied. The same computational procedure has been also involved for the investigation of the leakages through the clearance between the valve plate and the balancing ring. After that, a lumped and distributed parameters numerical model has been involved for the simulation of a typical orbit roller motor operation. In this case, particular care has been devoted to the modeling of the axial leakage clearances, adopting analytical interpolation functions deducted from the numerical results calculated applying the previously described 2D CFD methodology. Finally, the whole CAE approach has been validated by means of a comprehensive numerical versus experimental comparison, obtaining a general good accordance for the overall operating field of this particular type of hydraulic unit.

文摘This paper investigated the performances of a well-known car-following model with numerical simulations in describing the deceleration process induced by the motion of a leading car. A leading car with a pre-specilied speed profile was used to test the above model. The results show that this model is to some extent deficient in performing the process aforementioned. Modifications of the model to overcome these deficiencies were demonstrated anda modified car-following model was proposed accordingly. Furthermore, the delay time of car motion of the new model were studied.
文摘Engineering data are separately organized and their schemas are increasingly complex and variable. Engineering data management systems are needed to be able to manage the unified data and to be both customizable and extensible. The design of the systems is heavily dependent on the flexibility and self-description of the data model. The characteristics of engineering data and their management facts are analyzed. Then engineering data warehouse (EDW) architecture and multi-layer metamodels are presented. Also an approach to manage anduse engineering data by a meta object is proposed. Finally, an application flight test EDW system (FTEDWS) is described and meta-objects to manage engineering data in the data warehouse are used. It shows that adopting a meta-modeling approach provides a support for interchangeability and a sufficiently flexible environment in which the system evolution and the reusability can be handled.

文摘Using the multiple reference frames (MRF) impeller method, the three-dimensional non-Newtonian flow field generated by a double helical ribbon (DHR) impeller has been simulated. The velocity field calculated by the numerical simulation was similar to the previous studies and the power constant agreed well with the experimental data. Three computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methods, labeled Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ, were used to compute the Metzuer constant k5. The results showed that the calculated value from the slop method (method Ⅰ) was consistent with the experimental data. Method Ⅱ, which took the maximal circumference-average shear rate around the impeller as the effective shear rate to compute ks, also showed good agreement with the experiment. However, both methods suffer from the complexity of calculation procedures. A new method (method Ⅲ) was devised in this paper to use the area-weighted average viscosity around the impeller as the effective viscosity for calculating k5. Method Ⅲ showed both good accuracy and ease of use.

文摘Behavior of catalytic cracking reactions of particle cluster in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) riser reactors was numerically analyzed using a four-lump mathematical model. Effects of the cluster porosity, inlet gas velocity and temperature, and coke deposition on cracking reactions of the cluster were investigated. Distributions of temperature, gases, and gasoline from both catalyst particle cluster and an isolated catalyst particle are presented. The reaction rates from vacuum gas oil (VGO) to gasoline, gas and coke of individual particle in the cluster are higher than those of the isolated particle, but it reverses for the reaction rates from gasoline to gas and coke. Less gasoline is produced by particle clustering. Simulated results show that the produced mass fluxes of gas and gasoline increase with the operating temperature and molar concentration of VGO, and decrease due to the formation of coke.
文摘Time series are an important object of study in sciences, engineering and business, especially in cases where it is expected to know, predict and optimize behaviors. In this context, we intend to show the feasibility of using artificial neural networks in the study of several time series in an engineering course, especially those that have no overt behavior or are not able to be modeled mathematically in a simple way and have direct application in the education of future engineers.
