Taking a universal tools microscope(UTM) lens view image as an example, a 2-layer automatic recognition model for data reading is established after adopting a series of pre-processing algorithms. This model is an optimal combination of the correlation-based template matching method and a concurrent back propagation(BP) neural network. Multiple complementary feature extraction is used in generating the eigenvectors of the concurrent network. In order to improve fault-tolerance capacity, rotation invariant features based on Zernike moments are extracted from digit characters and a 4-dimensional group of the outline features is also obtained. Moreover, the operating time and reading accuracy can be adjusted dy-namically by setting the threshold value. The experimental result indicates that the newly developed algorithm has optimal recognition precision and working speed. The average reading ratio can achieve 97.23%. The recognition method can automatically obtain the results of optical measuring instruments rapidly and stably without modifying their original structure, which meets the application requirements.展开更多

A key factor in improving our understanding of the impact of sedentary behavior(and patterns of sedentary time accumulation) on health is the use of objective measurement tools that collect date and time-stamped activity information. One such tool is the activP AL monitor. This thigh-worn device uses accelerometer-derived information about thigh position to determine the start and end of each period spent sitting/lying, standing, and stepping, as well as stepping speed, step counts, and postural transitions. The activP AL is increasingly being used within field-based research for its ability to measure sitting/lying via posture. We summarise key issues to consider when using the activP AL in physical activity and sedentary behavior field-based research with adult populations. It is intended that the findings and discussion points be informative for researchers who are currently using activP AL monitors or are intending to use them. Pre-data collection decisions, monitor preparation and distribution, data collection considerations, and manual and automated data processing possibilities are presented using examples from current literature and experiences from 2 research groups from the UK and Australia.展开更多

A novel ultrasonic backscatter bone diagnostic (UBBD) instrument and an in vivo application for neonatal bone eval...Ultrasonic backscatter technique has shown promise as a noninvasive cancellous bone assessment tool. A novel ultrasonic backscatter bone diagnostic (UBBD) instrument and an in vivo application for neonatal bone evaluation are introduced in this study. The UBBD provides several advantages, including noninvasiveness, non- ionizing radiation, portability, and simplicity. In this study, the backscatter signal could be measured within 5 s using the UBBD. Ultrasonic backscatter measurements were performed on 467 neonates (268 males and 199 females) at the left calcaneus. The backscatter signal was measured at a central frequency of 3.5 MHz. The delay (-/-1) and duration (7-2) of the backscatter signal of interest (SOl) were varied, and the apparent integrated backscatter (AIB), frequency slope of apparent backscatter (FSAB), zero frequency intercept of apparent backscatter (FIAB), and spectral centroid shift (SCS) were calculated. The results showed that the SOl selection had a direct influence on cancellous bone evaluation. The AIB and FIAB were positively correlated with the gestational age (|R| up to 0.45, P 〈 0.001) when -/-1 was short (〈 8 μS), while negative correlations (|R| up to 0.56, P 〈 0.001) were commonly observed for T1 〉 10 IJS. Moderate positive correlations (IRI up to 0.45, P 〈 0.001) were observed for FSAB and SCS with gestational age when 71 was long (〉 10 μs). The 7-2 mainly introduced fluctuations in the observed correlation coefficients. The moderate correlations observed with UBBD demonstrate the feasibility of using the backscatter signal to evaluate neonatal bone status. This study also proposes an explicit standard for in vivo SOl selection and neonatal cancellous bone assessment.展开更多

Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency of five-axis machining of impellers, it is necessary to minimize the cutter posture changes and create a continuous tool path while avoiding interference. By using an MC-space algorithm for interference avoidance, an MB-spline algorithm for continuous control was intended to create a five-axis machining tool path with excellent surface quality and economic feasibility. A five-axis cutting experiment was performed to verify the effectiveness of the continuity control. The result shows that the surface shape with continuous method is greatly improved, and the surface roughness is generally favorable. Consequently, the effectiveness of the suggested method is verified by identifying the improvement of efficiency of five-axis machining of an impeller in aspects of surface quality and machining time.展开更多

In this context, the meta-analysis of the studies existing in the literature and covering the Turkish students has been conducted. The examined researches to be included in the analysis have been identified in accordance with certain criteria. As criteria, the following conditions have been sought: inclusion of the studies published between 2004 and 2015, inclusion of child, adolescent, and young adult students in the sample, giving the validity and reliability studies of the measuring tools, the studies being obtained from sources of the published theses and articles; and in the data, the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and sample size being given. In the research, gender has been found effective on the general aggression scores, at significant level (EDavg = .280, p 〈 .01), and against males at medium level. The general aggression scores from the moderator variables have been found to have a medium level of effect (EDavg = .402, p 〈 .01) on the childhood period, and to have the greatest effect against males.展开更多

The optimization of the grinding process ensures acceptable quality of the final product applying the smallest possible changes in parameters at non-uniform quality levels of the tools. Its simplicity makes it possible to introduce new relevant numerical characteristics of continuous distributions. The t-mean and score variance are descriptions of distributions without the drawbacks of the mean and variance, which may not exist even in cases of regular distributions. Their sample counterparts appear to be alternative descriptions of the observed data. The scalar score itself appears to be a new mathematical tool, which could be used in solving traditional statistical problems for models far from the normal one, skewed and heavy-tailed.展开更多

This evaluation was based on the service quality model as developed by Parasuraman within the core dimensions of Empathy, Responsiveness, Tangibles, Reliability and Assurance. The attributes of expectations and perceptions raised within these dimensions were addressed with two hypotheses. H1 (Hypothesis one) and H2 (Hypothesis two) were addressed with the results of Factor Analysis which identified the significance port users attach to service quality dimensions and their respective attributes.展开更多

The 7 Quality Control Tools (7 QC Tools) were implemented including Check sheet, Graph, Pareto diagram an...The objective of this research is to reduce waste in the production ceramics of Ceramics Factory in Thailand. The 7 Quality Control Tools (7 QC Tools) were implemented including Check sheet, Graph, Pareto diagram and Fishbone diagram, which were used to analyze and solve the problems. It was found that most of the wastes come from burning ceramics process. The kilns and trolleys has been used for a long time. Furthermore, the equipment and parts were damaged from lack of maintenance. The non-standard of product arrangement method into the kilns were the cause of waste. Thus, the researcher improved trolleys into the kilns and designed a fixture to help worker to product arrangement. The results of the research gathered data from quality inspection department. Then comparing data before the improvement (between September 2013 to December 2013) and after the improvement (between November 2014 to February 2015), the wastes are reduced from 8.97% to 0.29%. The result of improving is very efficiency because it can reduce the wastes by 8.68%.展开更多

Experimental results show that the value of tool cutting edge arc ρ has a significant impact on elastic-plastic deformation of the cutting area, and its influence on the surface quality of processing and precision is greater than common cutting. The method of calculating the theoretical limits of the diamond tool cutting edge radius is feasible. The value of 0.0001 μm has some guiding significance for the developement of suitable cutting thickness to ensure the normal cutting.展开更多
