There are M similar machines that are subject to fail or breaks down with a single server who is responsible for repairing or maintaining the failed machines. The machine fails completely at random with rate 2 and they are serviced in order of breaks down. More so, the machines operate independently but are subject to fail or break down. The service time distributions of the failed machines are assumed to be exponentially distributed with state dependent service rate #n, where n is the number of failed machines. By state dependent service rate we mean a situation where the rate of service depends on the number of failed machines present in the system. The Chapman-Kolmogorov differential equations obtained for the reliable server under single vacation model is solved through ODE45 (Runge-Kutta algorithm of order 4 and 5) in MATLAB programming language. The transient probabilities obtained are used to compute the operational measures of performance for the systems. The following time dependent operational measures of performance for the system are obtained: expected number of failed machines, expected number of operating machines, machine availability, expected idle period, expected busy period, operational utilization of the machine, the variance of the expected number of failed machine and variance of expected number of operating machine in the system. The effects of failure rate of machines, service rate of failed machines and the number of operating machines are investigated; it is observe that the rate at which machine fails and is serviced, affect the expected number of failed and operating machines in the system. The CPU time for obtaining the transient results for the systems and the variance of the systems are reported in this work.展开更多

Morphological identification was performed on a total of 1,152 sand flies (23% females and 77% males) collected by sticky paper traps. 80% of the total collected flies were identified as Phlebotomus (Paraphlebotomus) sergenti (Parrot) (57%) and Phlebotomus (Larroussius) longicuspis (Nitzulescu) (23%). In addition to these dominant species, four other species were found, Phlebotomus (Phlebotomus) papatasi (Scopoli), Sergentomyia (Sergentomyia) minuta (Rondani), Phlebotomus (Larroussius) perniciosus (Newstead) and Phlebotomus (Paraphlebotomus) chabaudi (Croset). Overall, the population dynamics show a yearly bimodal pattern related to rainfall and temperature, and with high density around human dwellings. The spatiotemporal distribution of sand fly species was helpful to discuss strategies that might be useful in controlling cutaneous leishmaniasis transmission in this endemic focus.展开更多

Cascade impactor PM samples from six size ranges: 〈 0.49 μm, 0.49-0.9 μm, 0.9-1.5μm, 1.5-3.0 p.m, 3.0-7.2 μm and 7.2-10 μm were collected from inside two stacks within G6mez Palacios and Torreon cities. ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry) analysis on collected Whatman fiberglass filters demonstrates that the PM are matrices mostly constituted of carbonates and silicates with abundant fine metalliferous particles. The metals with the most concentrations averaged over all size ranges were Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Ti. The size distributions of metals detected in this work have been plotted as normalized histogram concentration of each size fraction, the total concentration, and the aerodynamic particle diameter, which is a useful method for comparing the contributions of coarse and fine particles to pollutant concentrations.展开更多

After the dam Sidi Mohammed ben Abdellah was built in 1974, the flow became almost null. The waters of the estuary are meant for recreational activities, fishing, but at the same time they receive water collecting domestic and industrial wastewater. The waste in old landfills was not treated and leaked into the river water. The matter gets worse with the action of tides which make it difficult to escape the pollution load (physicochemical, bacteriological, heavy metals, etc.). The concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Fe, Cu and Cr) recorded in the sediments are higher than those found in the two molluscs. However, we have found out that Mytilus has accumulated more heavy metals (Cr, Pb and Zn) than Solen marginatus. The Zn makes an exception: It presents a greater concentration in the molluscs (63.015 mg/kg dry weight for Mytilus and 232.736 mg/kg dry weigh for Solen) than in the sediments (57.639 mg/kg). The amount of these metals exceeds the standard values. The impact of the marine pollution on human health derives from the consumption by humans of heavy-metal polluted molluscs. The detected concentrations of these pollutants are superior to the permissible maximum amounts.展开更多
