In this study,we focused on NPY m RNA expression changes around feeding time and during food deprivation in olive flounder. The olive flounder NPY m RNA levels were analyzed in different tissues and a high level of expression was detected in the brain. We also demonstrated a correlation between NPY expression levels in the brain and feeding schedule. NPY expression levels in olive flounder maintained on a daily scheduled feeding regimen increased shortly before feeding and decreased after the scheduled feeding time. Compared with the-1 h group before feeding,NPY expression in the 3 h group after feeding decreased significantly( P <0.05). Food deprivation led to an 81.7% decrease in NPY m RNA levels in the 24 h fasted group(P <0.05) and a 91.7% decrease in the 48 h fasted group(P <0.05). Therefore, our study demonstrates that NPY expression is associated with food intake in olive flounder. This result reveals the function of NPY in regulating food intake and its potential importance in olive flounder aquaculture.展开更多

Brea gum is a renewable resource available in semi-desert areas, extracted by native people. Films were produced by casting method and characterized through water vapour permeability, mechanical (tensile strength and elongation at break), morphological and optical properties. Glycerol was used as plasticizer. Brea gum films presented good visual aspect, transparency and amber colour. Microscopic observation showed a dense and homogeneous structure. Film wettability increased with glycerol content due to hydrophilic nature of the plasticizer. Solubility of films in water increased with temperature. Water sorption isotherms of films at 25 ~C showed that at high aw (above 0.50), the film matrix swells altering its structure and properties. Water vapour permeability remained practically constant up to 20% of glycerol content and then increases linearly with the plasticizer. The addition of glycerol decreased the opacity and tensile strength. The best film properties were obtained at 20% of glycerol concentration.展开更多

A study of the 15,500 letters contained in the Spanish Communist Party's [PCE] Historical Archive in Madrid confirms this broadcaster's major role in the construction of the mythical symbolic image of the anti-Franco movement. Beyond their function as propaganda instruments of the PCE, La Pirenaica's letters reveal the radio station's role as a vehicle for the expression of public solidarity and ideological and cultural resistance. La Pirenaica was the voice of the defeated after the Spanish Civil War, and was their confidante and advisor. La Pirenaica's letters are the chronicle of the horror that anti-Franco society suffered and endured in Spain.展开更多

During the partition, the European powers did not take into consideration the cultural and historical boundaries of the people of Africa. In West Africa for example, the partition made some Nzema people to be found in La Cote d'Ivoire and in Ghana. Some Dagarti are also found in Burkina Faso and while others remained in Ghana. Ewes today can be found in the three countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin. The same applies to the Bono in Gyaman. Some of the Gyaman people can be found in the Ivory Coast with others in Ghana. This article discusses Gyaman under the British and French colonial rule. It focuses on the responses of Gyaman authorities to colonialism and details out British and French colonial policies and their impact on the Gyaman people.展开更多
