A macro level landslide hazard zonation for a small area may provide a better insight into the landslide hazards. The main objective of the present work was to carry out macro landslide hazard zonation mapping on 1:50,000 scale in an area where regional level zonation mapping was conducted earlier. In the previous work the regional landslide hazard zonation maps of Srinagar-Rudraprayag area of Garhwal Himalaya in the state of Uttarakhand were prepared using subjective and objective approaches. In the present work the landslide hazard zonation mapping at macro level was carried out in a small area using a Landslide Hazard Evaluation Factor rating scheme. Based on the geology and logging analysis, we redefine low-resistivity oil zones. According to their genesis, low-resis- tivity oil zones can be distinguished as five different classes: low-resistivity oil zones formed by tectonic settings, by depositional settings, by diagenetic settings, by invaded settings and those which are formed by the compounding geneses respectively. We make the following observations from this study on the definition and classification of low-resistivity oil zones: 1) A low-resistivity oil reservoir has macroscopic and microscopic unity. 2) The genesis of low-resistivity oil zones varies with the type of petroliferous basin. 3) Some low-resistivity oil zones can be forecasted based on the geological study results. 4) The results in this paper suggest that well logging information is generated from two cause mechanisms, the geophysical factors and the geological setting. Future studies on the geological background cause mechanism and the theory of well logging information will enrich the theory of logging geology and improve the ability to forecast oil zones.展开更多

It is an important boundary for analysis of rock mass stability. Weak rock zone has been formed in a long geological period, and in this period, various rocks have undergone long-term consolidation of geostatic stress and tectonic stress; therefore, under in-situ conditions, their density and modulus of deformation are relatively high. Due to its fragmentary nature, once being exposed to the earth's surface, the structure of weak rock zone will soon be loosened, its density will be reduced, and its modulus of deformation will also be reduced significantly. Generally, weak rock zone can be found in large construction projects, especially in the dam foundation rocks of hydropower stations. These rocks cannot be eliminated completely by excavation. Furthermore, all tests nowadays are carried out after the exposure of weak rock zone, modulus of deformation under in-situ conditions cannot be revealed. In this paper, a test method explored by the authors has been introduced. This method is a whole multilayered medium deformation method. It is unnecessary to eliminate the relatively complete rocks covering on weak rock zone. A theoretical formula to obtain the modulus of deformation in various mediums has also been introduced. On-site comparative trials and indoor deformation modulus tests under equivalent density conditions have been carried out. We adopted several methods for the prediction researches of the deformation modulus of weak rock zone under in-situ conditions, and revealed a fact that under in-situ conditions, the deformation modulus of weak rock zone are several times higher than the test results obtained after the exposure. In a perspective of geological engineering, the research findings have fundamentally changed peoples' concepts on the deformation modulus of weak rock zone, provided important theories and methods for precise definition of deformation modulus of deep weak rock zone under cap rock conditions, as well as for reasonable engineering applications.展开更多

After fire, nutrient (N, P and K) removal from burning residues wasestimated at 302.5 kg ha-1 in the CF and 644.8 kg ha-1 in the EB. Fire reduced the topsoil capitals of totalN and P by about 20% and 10%, respectively, in both forests, while K capital was increased in the topsoils ofboth forests following fire. Total site nutrient loss through surface erosion was 28.4 kg (N) ha-1, 8.4 kg (P)ha-1 and 328.7 kg (K) ha-1 in the CF. In the EB, the losses of total N, P and K were 58.5, 10.5 and 396.3kg ha-1, respectively. Improvement of soil structure and increase in mineralization of nutrients associatedwith increased microbe number and enzyme activities and elevated soil respiration occurred 5 days after fire. However, organic matter and available nutrient contents and most of other soil parameters declined one yearafter fire on the burned CF and EB topsoils. These results suggest that short-term site productivity canbe stimulated immediately, but reduced subsequently by soil and water losses, especially in South China, where high-intensity precipitation, steep slopes and fragile soil can be expected. Therefore, the silviculturalmeasurements should be developed in plantation management.展开更多

The study revealed that the Wenehuan and Lushan earthquakes occurred on two relatively independent faults. In addition, there was a nearly constant-velocity crustal movement zone between the two epicenters that probably had a compressive stress with slow motion. Furthermore, the central fault and a mountain back fault gradually merged from north to south. The Lushan earthquake of the Wenchuan earthquake. was not an affershock The research showed that fault zones within 30-50 km of State Highway 318 are intensive and complex. The 1.4-nmrnineral in red soil and yellow soil is mainly 1.4-nm intergrade mineral, and in acidic yellow-brown soil (pH< 5.5) is verniiculite alone or 1.4-nm intergrade mineral together with vermiculite. The distribution and thecontent of 1 .4-nm intergrade mineral in the mountain soils are more widespread and higher than those of thecorresponding soils in horizontal zone. 2) The interlayer material of 1.4-nin intergrade mineral ui these soilsappears to be hydroxy-Al polymers instead of hydroxy-Fe, proto-imogolite or kaolin-like material. There isa significant positive correlation between Al amount extracted from the soil with sodium citrate after DCBextraction and pH value of the citrate solution after the extraction. The citrate can also extract a certainamount of silicon from the soil, but the silicon may not come from interlayer of 1.4-nm intergrade mineral.3) It was seldom studied that either vermiculite or smectite did the natural 1.4-nm intergrade mineral comefrom in soil, or it was commonly thought to come from vermiculite. A recent report has revealed that itcan come from smectite. There are some different behaviors between the 1.4-nm intergrade mineral derivedfrom vermiculite and that from smectite. For example, they exert different influences on the formation ofgibbsite. The 1.4-nm intergrade mineral derived from smectite may promote the formation of gibbsite in theyellow soil. 4) The type of 1.4-nm minerals in soils. i.e., vermiculite or 1.4-nm intergrade mineral, may besignificant to soil properties, such as soil acidity, exchangeable Al, electric charge aiiiount and specific surfacearea. Therefore, the management for the soil in which 1.4-nm mineral is mainly 1.4-nm intergrade mineralor vermiculite should be dealt with differently.展开更多

Then an algorithm for solving systems of block bidiagonal triangular linear equations was given, which is not necessary to treat with the zero elements out of banded systems. A fast algorithm for solving the systems of symmetry block tridiagonal linear equations was deduced, which can quicken the speed of ray-tracing. Finally, the simulation based on this algorithm for ray-tracing in three dimensional media was carried out. Meanwhile, the segmentally-iterative ray-tracing method and banded method for solving the systems of block tridiagonal linear equations were compared in the same model mentioned above. The convergence condition was assumed that the L-2 norm summation for mk, 1 and mk. 2 in the whole ray path was limited in 10-6. And the calculating speeds of these methods were compared. The results show that the calculating speed of this algorithm is faster than that of conventional method and the calculated results are accurate enough. In addition, its precision can be controlled according to the requirement of ray-tracing.展开更多

The declustered catalogues have been compiled from the raw catalogues by deleting the aftershocks in different time interval after main shock according to the criteria for the aftershock activity period. As an example, Hebei seismic zone is taken to show the effect of the aftershock on the earthquake hazard assessment because three strong earthquakes with the aftershocks occurred from 1966 to 1976. The results have been shown that the effect of the aftershocks on the parameters λ m,b is significant. The difference between the clustered and declustered catalogues has reached in seismic activity rate and recurrence period, at most, 45% and 90%, respectively. But the difference in M max is smaller. Based on this, the suggestion that the aftershocks should be omitted in the estimation of the earthquake hazard could be made, but how long the aftershocks activity duration is still left to the future research.展开更多

The practices proved that rich and reliable geological results have been achieved with the CEMP method in complicated areas covered with loess. This can provide important evidence for researching the contact relationship among basins and mountains, structural feature of target layers and predict favourable areas.展开更多

Elementary reasons for the coexistence of deltas are the existence of the palaeodrainage pattern and the effect of palaeotopography. The sedimentary facies is the most elementary factor controlling the physical property of reservoirs. The layout and spatial combination model of the sand body and faults are the major influential factors on the occurrence of hydrocarbons. Comparative study on Houzhang and Yanglou Braided Deltas as well as Zhangchang and Gucheng Meandering Deltas suggests that the hydrocarbons distribute primarily in the mouth bar subfacies and secondarily in the distal bar subfacies of the braided delta, while the oil-water and aqueous layers are mainly found in the subaquatic distributary channel. Although the sand body of the meandering delta has excellent stratification and high porosity, the thickness is far less than that of the braided delta. Therefore, the yield of hydrocarbon is relatively low. The mudstone of the delta front subfacies is a kind of source rock with a high content of organic matter. The conducting system for oil/gas migration in the North Slope is a composite one comprising faults and sand- stone reservoirs. A large amount of oil/gas from the deep depression first migrated towards the slope along the sand body which stretches and connects with the source rocks, and then redistributed along the faults in the slope. After the movement reached a standstill, the faults formed the occlusion in the up-dip direction of the sand body, generating a great quantity of fault block hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Noah Slope.展开更多

The characteristics of seismic activity in the epicenter and its adjacent region before the earthquake are analyzed; and a comparison is made between the Ms7.4 Yutian earthquake sequence, the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake sequence and the Wuqia Ms6.9 earthquake sequence. The results show the Ms7.4 Yutian earthquake occurred in the junction between the Aityn Tagh fault and the western Kunlun fault, resulting perhaps from the tensile fracture of the branch fault located southwest of the Ashikule basin due to left-lateral dislocation of the Aityn Tagh fault; the seismic sequence is of main shock-aftershock type, the strongest aftershock being Ms5.8. The aftershocks attenuated quickly, and occurred in groups; the focal mechanism solutions and epicenter distribution have revealed a unilateral rupture source of this earthquake. Seismic activity shows that there was medium and medium-short term abnormity before the earthquake, but there was not short-imminent abnormity. Seismic activity of this earthquake sequence enhanced before the Ms8. 0 Wenchuan and the Ms6. 9 Wuqia earthquakes, showing the window effect to some extent.展开更多

This is because researchers have ignored the important role of the Minshan block in the seismogenic process. The authors present a new opinion based on geological survey and comprehensive analyses. The Minshan block is a key tectonic element of the earthquake occurrence in the northwest triangle faulty block of Sichuan Province. The Minshan block is bordered by Longmen Mountain Range fractures in the south, the Huya fracture in the east, the Tazang fracture in the north and the Mounigou Valley fracture in the west. The rigidity of the block is relatively larger than those of the adjacent regions. The block's eastward movement pushed by regional maximum main geo-stress is limited when it suddenly tapers off near the east triangle end with a bottle-neck effect, and this causes geo-stress concentration around it. The shape of the block is coffin-like, wide in the upper part and narrow in the lower part. When a strong earthquake occurs along the block margins, the lock-up effect temporarily released, resulting in geo-stress transmitted to the Pingwu-Qingchuan (Motianling block) region. This transmission caused the Wenchuan earthquake's aftershocks to be concentrated in Qingchuan region. As the block moved eastward, the back of the block, i.e. the south segment of Mounigou Valley fracture, became active after the Wenchuan Earthquake. Therefore the aftershocks were concentrated along the south segment of Mounigou Valley fracture. Because the south margin is composed of the front range fracture, the geo-stress gradually released, causing many aftershocks along the Guanxian-Anxian fracture. The geological survey made after the Wenchuan Earthquake reveals that the surface ruptures in the south margin of Minshan block occur not along the Beichuan-Yingxiu fracture (central fracture) also along the front range fracture. The length of the surface rupture in the south margin ranges from several meters to several kilometers and it is distributed in en echelon (closely-spaced, parallel or subparallel, step-like surface ruptures). The vertical and horizontal displacements range from place to place and the thrusting component is dominant in the middle segment of Longmen Mountain Range structure belt. Nevertheless, the strike slip of the surface ruptures is dominant in the north segment of Longmen Mountain Range structure belt. Therefore the south margin is the original seismic structure. The sudden thrusting of the south margin of the Minshan block is the source event for the Wenchuan Earthquake.展开更多

文摘This paper is a review of some advances in the studies on 1.4-nm intergrade mineral of soils in sub-tropical China. 1) 1.4-nm intergrade mineral occurs ubiquitously in soils of subtropical China. Therefore, the management for the soil in which 1.4-nm mineral is mainly 1.4-nm intergrade mineralor vermiculite should be dealt with differently.

文摘Beginning with the method of whole path iterative ray-tracing and according to the positive definiteness of the coefficient matrix of the systems of linear equations, a symmetry olock tridiagonal matrix was decomposed into the product of block bidiagonal triangular matrix and its transpose by means of Cholesky decomposition. In addition, its precision can be controlled according to the requirement of ray-tracing.

文摘Many lakes in Southeastern Wisconsin(the metropolitan-Milwaukee area) are gradually becoming increasingly "salty".While these waterbodies would not be considered presently to be saline lakes, there has been a rapid increase in the chloride concentrations in most of these lakes over the last 30 years, with the lakes increasing from a mean chloride concentration of about 19 mg/L to over 100 mg/L in some cases. While ecological impacts can be expected when chloride values exceed 250 mg/L,the rate of increase presents a basis for concern, especially since the underlying geology of the region is based on limestone/dolomite which is deficient in chlorides. Thus, the origin of the chlorides is anthropogenic:human and industrial wastewaters(treatment of which has effected improvements in trophic status but has not affected other water-borne contaminants) and winter de-icing practices based upon large quantities of sodium chloride are major contributors to the increasing concentrations of chloride in the region's waterways.Without taking remedial measures, the rate of salinization is expected to continue to increase, resulting, ultimately,in the alteration of the freshwater systems in the region.
文摘In this paper, the earthquake hazard parameters (λ m,b and M max) from the maximum likelihood method for the raw catalogue and declustered catalogues have been used to discuss the effect of the aftershocks on the earthquake hazard estimation. Based on this, the suggestion that the aftershocks should be omitted in the estimation of the earthquake hazard could be made, but how long the aftershocks activity duration is still left to the future research.

文摘Foreland basins on the western edge of Ordos are characterized by typical loess geomorphologic features. Its surface is severely cut, and its underground geological structures are complicated.Making use of the advantage of CEMP in exploration in frontland as well as successful multi-year exploration experiences in West China, we first employed the CEMP method to conduct exploration on the western edge of the Ordos basin and its surrounding areas. The practices proved that rich and reliable geological results have been achieved with the CEMP method in complicated areas covered with loess. This can provide important evidence for researching the contact relationship among basins and mountains, structural feature of target layers and predict favourable areas.
文摘Tectonic movements in the North Slope of Biyang Depression are comparatively mild and stable, thus generating two categories of deltas. After the movement reached a standstill, the faults formed the occlusion in the up-dip direction of the sand body, generating a great quantity of fault block hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Noah Slope.
文摘The key objective of this research was to estimate the Ni and Cr contents of soil around the Baghjar Chromite Mine(BCM)of Sabzevar Ophiolite Belt,Northeastern Iran, and assess the degree of soil pollution using the pollution indices.Soil samples(0-20 cm depth) were collected at various distances from the BCM.In the present research, heavy metals(Cr and Ni) in soil samples were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry to detect their concentrations and contour maps were produced to explain the metal spatial distribution. Also, the degree of metal pollution was quantified. The results indicate that the soils in the studied area are contaminated by Cr and Ni.The corresponding concentrations for Cr and Ni are(156.19±24.45) and(321.7±133.27) mg/kg,respectively,which exceed the corresponding maximum allowable concentrations in soils. The different indices demonstrate that soils around chromite mine are significantly contaminated with Cr and Ni,suggesting several times higher levels of toxic metals than normal ranges. The above results revealed that the heavy metal concentrations increase with increasing the distance from the mine and mining pollutants can be transported to long distances from their sources.

文摘The parameters, stress field background, geological tectonics and seismic sequence of the March 21, 2008, Ms7.4 Yutian, Xinjiang earthquake are discussed in this paper. Seismic activity of this earthquake sequence enhanced before the Ms8. 0 Wenchuan and the Ms6. 9 Wuqia earthquakes, showing the window effect to some extent.

文摘The genetic mechanism of the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake is still being debated and there is still no convincing general explanation for most of the phenomena. The sudden thrusting of the south margin of the Minshan block is the source event for the Wenchuan Earthquake.
