We investigated the color and chemical characteristics in a radial direction of partially black-streaked heartwood samples. Color properties （pH value, inorganic element, extractive content and extractive characterization） were measured in the color co-ordinates CIELAB system. The results show that the black streak part was 12-15 brightness （L^＊） value units less than the normal heartwood. Furthermore, the black streak part had more red （a^＊） but less yellow （b^＊）, hue （h） and chroma （C^＊） than the normal wood. The pH value, ash content and calcium contents of the black streak part were slightly higher than those obtained for the normal wood. The content of the low-polar extractive （n-hexane and ethyl acetate） of the black streak part was considerably higher than that for the normal wood. The blackening process was speculated to be a kind of defense mechanism indicated by remarkable amount ofbioactive compound called tectoquinone.展开更多

In particular, an in-depth analysis related to the actual physical meaning of Planck＇s unit is given in the framework of the banded distribution of physical quantities. From this analysis the richness and flexibility of the model＇s description capabilities is derived, with particular attention devoted to the ability of using the same relationships for describing both microcosm and macrocosm and also young and old universe. Finally the cited descriptive capabilities are used for deriving a very simple and intuitive explanation of the ＂darkness＂ of dark matter.展开更多

The crabs were collected from Korangi creek through transect and quadrat method from low tide level to h...Zonal distribution and population biology of llyoplaxfrater were studied in a mangrove mudflat area of Pakistan. The crabs were collected from Korangi creek through transect and quadrat method from low tide level to high tide level. Two transects were delimited in a mangrove area of Korangi creek （24°79′N/67°20′E）. On each transect, three 0.25 m quadrats were sampled at three tidal levels on a monthly basis during low tide periods from March 2001 to February 2002. A total of 1124 crabs were obtained, of which 482 were males and 642 were females. Density of crabs varied between 0 and 90/m^2. The density and size distribution varied and showed significant differences from low to high tide level, and were positively correlated with the percent moisture, percent organic matter and sediment grain size. The carapace width （CW） ranged from 2.5 to 11.5 mm for male and 2.5 to 11.0 mm for female and was not significantly different. The overall sex ratio did not differ significantly from the expected 1：1 throughout the year in small crabs but was significantly different in adult crabs （Z2 = 49.73） with more male crabs, Size frequency distribution showed recruitment of juvenile crabs （〈 4 mm） nearly throughout the year except during June and July. Presence of ovigerous females in all months with seasonal peaks in September, October, December and May indicates seasonal continuous breeding. Weight of egg mass increases with weight of ovigerous females and show positive linear relationship. The estimated mean diameter of egg was 2.83±0.25μm, and the average number of eggs was 3065±902.展开更多
Objective： To observe the therapeutic effect of plum-blossom needle tapping combined with intravenous drip of Acyclovir for herpes zoster. Methods; A total of 40 herpes zceter patients were randomized into acupunctur...Objective： To observe the therapeutic effect of plum-blossom needle tapping combined with intravenous drip of Acyclovir for herpes zoster. Methods; A total of 40 herpes zceter patients were randomized into acupuncture plus medication group （ n = 21 ） and medication group （ n = 19） which were treated respectively with topical plum-blossom needle tapping in the focus region combined with intravenous drip of Acyclovir （250 rng＋250 mL normal saline, twice daily） and simple intravenous drip of Acyclovir. Results： After treatment, of the 21 and 19 cases in acupuncture plus medication and medication groups, 18 （85.7%） and 10 （52.6%） were cured, 3 （ 14.3% ） and 7 （36.8%） had marked improvement, 0 （0） and 2 （ 10.5% ） failed, with the effective rates being 100,0% and 89,5% respectively. The cure duration of acupuncture plus medication end medication groups were （2.5± 1.0） days and （4.0±2.3） days separately. The therapeutic effect of the former group was significantly superior to that of the later group （P〈 0.05） and the duration of cure of acupuncture plus medication group was evidently shorter than that of medication group （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： The therapeutic effect of plum-blossom needle tapping plus Acyclovir is significantly superior to that of simple Acyclovir in relieving pain, promoting scabbing, and shortening the therapeutic duration.展开更多
