Data from the measurement by the Biolog ECO plate demonstrated that the value of average well color development (AWCD) and the carbon source utilization of soil microorganisms in the treatments with pH regulators were promoter than CK during the initial 30 days; while the results from the 90 days indicated that the activity and the carbon source utilization of soil microbes in acid regulator treatment began to fall down, even lower than that of poplar implant treatment, then the alkaline treatment could still stimulate and promote the activity and the carbon source utilization ability of soil microbes. Overall, the activity and community structure of soil microbes in rhizo- sphere zones of atrazine-contaminated soil did not show steady regularity during the phytoremediation process by using hybrid poplars. For the reason that the Biolog E- CO plate, which only had 31 kinds of carbon sources, could not really indicate the detail information about the function diversity of community structure of soil mi- crobes. So it's essential for us to take more sophisticated analysis tools for further study.展开更多

METHODS: We randomly divided 72 rats into three groups including control (administered with distilled water), ASA group (administered 100 mg/kg ASA) and EA group (administered EA + 100 mg/kg ASA). Each rat was fasted for 18 to 24 h before experimentation, and lesion scores, gastric acidity, cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and -2 mRNA levels, and total nitric oxide (NO) concentration were measured. RESULTS: The lesion scores of the EA group were significantly lower than those of the ASA group. Gastric acidity of the ASA and EA groups was reduced compared to the control group. COX-1 and -2 mRNA levels were significantly increased in the EA group as compared to the control and ASA groups, and NO levels were also significantly increased in the EA group as compared to the ASA group. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that EA-mediated protection against ASA-induced ulceration in rats may occur via gastric defense components.展开更多

Using experimental models of proliferation of cultured rabbit aortic SMCs induced by oxidized LDL(ox-LDL), the extent of oxidation was determined by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) method, MTT colorimetry and 3H-thymidine(3H-TdR) incorporation were used to observe proliferation of SMCs. It showed that SF effectively inhibited cell-mediated oxidation induced by Cu2+ in a concentration-dependent manner. At the final concentration of 40, 80, 120 gmL-1, SF could significantly inhibit 3H-TdR incorporation and cell Proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. The results indicated that SF could, in vitro protect LDL against oxidative modification and inhibit the proliferation of SMC, which might be due to its free radical scavenging capacity.展开更多

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between food balance and diabetes mellitus, using published data on food balances in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during 2005-2007, published by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2012 and Medical Technical papers and Scientific Reports published on Diabetes Mellitus in Saudi Arabia in an explanatory study. Food balance was calculated per capita and then its level of change was compared with changing of diabetes mellitus in the country. Results illustrated that Saudi citizen daily protein consumption (DPC) during 2005-2007 (g/capita/day) is higher than the average global consumption level of protein with 15.27%, daily fat consumption (DFC) with 24.56% and daily energy consumption (DEC) with 16.93% and increases than recommended level by International Nutrition Organizations (INO) with 56% for protein, 60.49% for fat and 27.37% for energy. On the other hand, DPC per capita in Saudi Arabia decreased during the period 2008-2010 from 88.3 g/day to 82.36 g/day. Moreover, DFC per capita in Saudi Arabia decreased during the period 2008-2010 from 3,247.90 Cal/capita/day to 3,176.43 Cal/capita/day, and daily energy consumption (DEC) of Saudi citizen increases than world consumption with 16.93%, while increases with 27.37% than INO. Despite this, DPC, DFC and DEC per capita in Saudi Arabia were still higher than world mean. On the other side, results illustrated that the number of diabetic patients in Saudi Arabia during the same period (2005-2010). The curve of diabetic patient's number in Saudi Arabia during 2005-2010 is regular ascending with increasing level ranged between 7.10% in 2005 and 12.44% in 2010. It is essential to devise Saudi National Programme to educate the public about the relation of food balances and diabetes, so it could be avoided, and provide citizens with healthy dietary balances tables.展开更多

Based on best-track data from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and reanalysis data from National Centers for Environmental Prediction for the period 1975- 2014, we investigated the influences of two types of E1 Nifio, the eastern Pacific E1 Nifio (EP-E1 Nifio) and central Pacific E1 Nifio (CP-E1 Nifio), on global TC genesis. We also examined how various environmental factors contribute to these influences using a modified genesis potential index (MGPI). The composites reproduced for two types of E1 Nifio, from their developing to decaying phases, were able to qualitatively replicate observed cyclogenesis in several basins except for the Arabian Sea. Certain factors of MGPI with more influence than others in various regions are identified. Over the western North Pacific, five variables were all important in the two E1Nifio types during developing summer (July-August-September) and fall (October- November-December), and decaying spring (April-May-June) and summer. In the eastern Pacific, vertical shear and relative vorticity are the crucial factors for the two types of El Nifio during developing and decaying summers. In the Atlantic, vertical shear, potential intensity and relative humidity are important for the opposite variation of EP- and CP-EI Nifios during decaying summers. In the Southern Hemisphere, the five variables have varying contributions to TC genesis variation during peak season (January-February-March) for the two types of E1 Nifio. In the Bay of Bengal, relative vorticity, humidity and omega may be responsible for clearly reduced TC genesis during developing fall for the two types and slightly suppressed TC cyclogenesis during EP-E1 Nifio decaying spring. In the Arabian Sea, the EP-E1 Nifio generates a slightly positive anomaly of TC genesis during developing falls and decaying springs, but the MGPI failed to capture this variation.展开更多

In this work, a gel type strong acid cation exchange resin 001×4 was applied to isolate acarbose from fermentation broth. It was demonstrated that cation exchanger 001×4 displayed a large adsorption capacity and quick exchange rate for acarbose. The static adsorption equilibrium data were well fitted to the Langmuir equation. Column adsorption experiments demonstrated that high dynamic adsorption capacity was reached at bed height of 104.4 mm, feed flow rate of 1.0 ml·min 1and acarbose concentration of 4.0 mg·ml 1.Under the optimized conditions, the column chromatography packed with cation exchanger 001×4 recovered 74.3%(by mass) of acarbose from Actinoplanes utahensis ZJB-08196 fermentation broth with purity of 80.1%(by mass),demonstrating great potential in the practical applications in acarbose separation.展开更多

METHODS:The effects of YFa and its analogs (D-Ala2) YFa, Y (D-Ala2) GFMKKKFMRF amide and Des-Phe-YGGFMKKKFMR amide in guinea pig ileum (GPI) and mouse vas deferens (MVD) motility were studied using an isolated tissue organ bath system, and morphine and DynA (1-13) served as controls. Acetylcholine was used for muscle stimulation. The observations were validated by specific antagonist pretreatment experiments using naloxonazine, naltrindole and norbinaltor-phimine norBNI. RESULTS:YFa did not demonstrate significant inhibition of GPI muscle contraction as compared with mor-phine (15% vs 62%, P = 0.0002), but moderate inhibition of MVD muscle contraction, indicating the role of κ opioid receptors in the contraction. A moderate inhibition of GPI muscles by (Des-Phe) YFa revealed the role of anti-opiate receptors in the smooth muscle contraction. (D-Ala-2) YFa showed significant inhibition of smooth muscle contraction, indicating the involvement of mainly δ receptors in MVD contraction. These results were supported by specific antagonist pretreatment assays. CONCLUSION:YFa revealed its side-effect-free analgesic properties with regard to arrest of gastroin-testinal transit. The study provides evidences for the involvement of κ and anti-opioid receptors in smooth muscle contraction.展开更多

Remediating to this situation, it led a study of the biodiversity and zooplanktonic populations distribution in time and space in the Boughrara dam lake which remains subject to a strong pollution coming essentially from Morocco. The preliminary results of the faunistic analysis of the zooplanktonic populations enabled to highlight an important richness of zoological groups. The CFA (correspondences factorial analysis) and the AHC (ascending hierarchical classification) methods used both enabled to define the species distribution of both open waters and littoral ones, and also to perform existing affinities between them and the state of the used medium. Compared to other barrages, such as those of Bouhanifia and of Sarno, the zooplanktonic populations of both open waters and littoral populations appear to a great extent numerous in rain period. On the quantitative and qualitative level, the zooplanktonic populations strongly suffer from the pollution contamination coming from the Mouillah River especially in summer period. It is time to think about the protection of this fauna which is the second trophic chain link and this intending to preserve the ecosystems in an equilibrium state and to consider the exploitation of natural resources in the realization of an aquacultural farm.展开更多

Agricultural productions in Oman is almost fully dependent on irrigation. More than one third of irrigation water is supplied by aflaj (singular: falaj), which provide 680× 10^6 m^3 of water per year and irrigate some 26,500 ha. Aflaj are trenches and tunnels, which are dug in the ground to convey water from one place to another. This study analyzed the existing management of Falaj Al Khatmain and proposed improvements to the system regarding water utilization, enriching community living, distribution of water among the shareholders and the water circulation during day and night. Furthermore, the study estimated the surplus water during the wet period and determined the recharge area of groundwater using the rainfall, falaj flow, wadi flow, water table and lithology of the wells located in or around the study area. The study concluded that under the climatic and hydro-geologic conditions in the study area, the best arrangement for recharging the groundwater is an infiltration pond to store surplus water from thefalaj in the subsurface pond or reservoir without dam construction.展开更多

Student's kymograph and glass jacket organ bath were used for recording ilum smooth muscles contractions. The recording of the muscles contractions showed regular autorhythmic pattern, and this contraction was enhanced by both ACh (acetylcholine) and KCI (potassium chloride). This normal contraction and that induced by ACh and KCI mainly depended on the extracellular calcium in their tension and maintaining. Aspirin exerted different effects on ileal smooth muscles contractions depending upon concentrations. Low concentrations 2-40 mM had an stimulatory effects, while high concentrations 60-200 mM had an inhibitory effects, which led to relaxation. Ca^+2 free solution abolished muscles response to aspirin with the concentrations caused contractions. Aspirin in tum led to continuation of acetylcholine induced contractions.展开更多

The two surface water resources, Gargar and Merdjet Sidi Abed dams, do not satisfy the requirements of agriculture water. According to the National Office of the Irrigation and Drainage data, the quantity of allocated water is never distributed; the difference between allocated water and drop water can also exceed 20%, and then, another problem of management is that the water losses in the distribution can reach 20% again. The shortage irrigation water resource allocated has constrained the farmers to use groundwater. The chemical analysis of 56 simples to this water showed a significant chemical diversity in the compositions. There is a high salinity risk (C3 class) or very high risk (C4 class) of soil salinisation. A space chart distribution to the EC water probability to exceed 2.25 dS/m interpolated by the indicator kriging method showed that 78% of the groundwater surface presents a significant probability to exceed this limit. The average value of the SAR (sodium adsorption ratio) is lower than 10 that indicates a moderate risk of sodisation. This observation is in contradiction with the high values of the SAR measured in the soil solution. The approach of residual alkalinity (RSC) shows that a good number of drillings analyzed presents a positive sign RSC (RSC 〉 0). This water presents a real danger of sodisation. They have a low salinity, which, for a farmer, does not present any danger.展开更多

It has been observed that foundation level 3 students of Arab Open University have an insufficient knowledge of vocabulary which is reflected on their writing, as their usage of vocabulary is confined to a number of limited common words. This research explores the effect of collaborative writing on students' vocabulary acquisition. All the writing tasks were related to educational topics in order to provide students with the lexical items related to the same subject. This study took place in one of the foundation level 3 classes at Arab Open University, Oman branch. Fourteen anonymous Arab students for whom English is considered as the second language participated in this study. All students are in the intermediate level of English language proficiency. For each writing task, five collocations were selected to be taught in the class over a period of five weeks. The achieved outcomes revealed contrary results to the previous studies that had shown the effective impact of collaborative writing. This study has discussed the contrary impact of collaborative writing on improving the learners' vocabulary acquisition in addition to the challenges students faced during collaborative writing task. Finally, this research provides recommendations for the effective collaborative writing in the foundation students' language proficiency.展开更多

This paper discusses the theories, methods and practicalities of buildings' end of life with a main focus on planning and managing reuse and recycling of existing buildings. Our aim is the realistic modelling of theoretical scenarios for end of life based on a case study. The methods of building survey, material classification and documentation for reuse, recycling and disposal of existing constructions are presented. Investigations and calculations were done on an existing cottage in the Alps. The ecologically most beneficial disposal phase of the old wooden hut is our main objective. Critical questions arise from the quality of the material and how it can be extracted, separated and balanced in an appropriate way. A systematic survey of the building by inspection of constructions and materials in iterative steps allows a detailed material balance with condition and property information. This information is crucial for scenarios and material flow analysis of demolished and rebuilt building in environmental system analysis. For future planning, the reuse and recycling of existing buildings should be integrated quite early in the planning process so that we can use the materials in the best way.展开更多

The study provides evidences for the involvement of κ and anti-opioid receptors in smooth muscle contraction.
文摘Works concerning zooplankton of freshwaters of the western area of Algeria are only very fragmentary and remain at an embryonic state. It is time to think about the protection of this fauna which is the second trophic chain link and this intending to preserve the ecosystems in an equilibrium state and to consider the exploitation of natural resources in the realization of an aquacultural farm.
文摘Oman is an arid country with an average annual rainfall of 100 mm. The study concluded that under the climatic and hydro-geologic conditions in the study area, the best arrangement for recharging the groundwater is an infiltration pond to store surplus water from thefalaj in the subsurface pond or reservoir without dam construction.
文摘Strips of mouse ileum were used in current study to investigate the effect of different concentrations of aspirin on their smooth muscles activities. Aspirin in tum led to continuation of acetylcholine induced contractions.
文摘In the Lower Cheliff Plain (northwestern of Algeria), the waters resources are limited; the adoption of a rational approach in the management of irrigation water in the irrigated perimeter poses an inequality in the balance between supply and demand. They have a low salinity, which, for a farmer, does not present any danger.
文摘Writing task is an integral part of education in ESL (English as a Second Language) at the foundation level. Finally, this research provides recommendations for the effective collaborative writing in the foundation students' language proficiency.
文摘The use of medicines for infants and children is presenting one unique set of challenges, because children are the most vulnerable population in any society. In this study, we set out to present the characteristics and classification of antibiotics recommended for children according to WHO, EMA and EBM. Also, the aim of this study was to analyze the most prescribed pediatric antibiotics in 2013 in Republic of Macedonia compared with standard treatments. Presented data was collected according to the number of prescribed recipes of pediatric dosage forms covered by the Fund of Republic of Macedonia. The obtained results showed that the most prescribed pediatric antibiotic is amoxicillin with clavulanic acid (875mg + 125mg) in form of tablet, with 280 863 prescribed recipes which corresponds to the recommendations of EBM.
文摘Up to now, reuse and recycling of existing buildings have not been examined widely. For future planning, the reuse and recycling of existing buildings should be integrated quite early in the planning process so that we can use the materials in the best way.
