The method can extract optimized gridding parameters based on the distribution of features in raw data. Modeling analysis proves that distortion caused by gridding can be greatly reduced when using such parameters. We also present some improved technical measures that use human- machine interaction and multi-thread parallel technology to solve inadequacies in traditional gridding software. On the basis of these methods, we have developed software that can be used to grid scattered data using a graphic interface. Finally, a comparison of different gridding parameters on field magnetic data from Ji Lin Province, North China demonstrates the superiority of the proposed method in eliminating the distortions and enhancing gridding efficiency.展开更多

Compared with electrical interconnections, optical ones show undoubted advantages based on physical factor analysis. At the same time, since the recent developments drive us to think about whether these optical interconnect technologies with higher bandwidth but higher cost are worthy to be deployed, the computing performance comparison is performed. To meet the increasing demand of large-scale parallel or multi-processor computing tasks, an analytic method to evaluate parallel computing performance ofinterconnect systems is proposed in this paper. Both bandwidth-limit model and full-bandwidth model are under our investigation. Speedup and effi ciency are selected to represent the parallel performance of an interconnect system. Deploying the proposed models, we depict the performance gap between the optical and electrically interconnected systems. Another investigation on power consumption of commercial products showed that if the parallel interconnections are deployed, the unit power consumption will be reduced. Therefore, from the analysis of computing influence and power dissipation, we found that parallel optical interconnect is valuable combination of high performance and low energy consumption. Considering the possible data center under construction, huge power could be saved if parallel optical interconnects technologies are used.展开更多

Employers prefer graduates with relevant experience to those without. Why is experience so important to employers? Can students accumulate "working" experience while studying in college? This paper discusses the use of design projects inside and outside of classrooms to help students gain "working" experience and skills through hands-on design activities that simulate the actual design activities that occur in the industry. Faculty members from the Mechanical Engineering Technology and Computer Engineering Technology departments were involved in creating multidisciplinary design projects. The design projects give students new insights into what they learn in their coursework and pro.vide students the valuable experiences in analytical skills, concurrent engineering approach, people skills, and management skills needed for the students when looking for employment.展开更多

Lots of traditional algorithms study the problem in a serial environment. However, in GIS, a spatial object is much more complicated and is considered to be always composed of multiple line segments, and one line segment connects another line segment at its endpoint. On the other hand, along with the advances made in computer hardware, more and more personal computers have multiple cores or CPUs equipped. Thus, to make full use of the increasing computing resources, parallel technique is applied as one of the most available methods. Apparently, the traditional algorithms should be improved to take advantage of the technologies. Under these circumstances, based on the modified uniform grid algorithm, which is adapted to dealing with spatial objects in GIS, this paper proposes a parallel strategy in a shared memory architecture. Also, experimental results are given in the final part of this paper to demonstrate the efficiency this strategy brings.展开更多
