Electricity generation during wastewater treatment by a microbial fuel cell coupled with constructed wetland 被引量:13

A membrane-less constructed wetland microbial fuel cell (CW-MFC) is constructed and operated under continuous flow with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 2 d. Fed with glucose, the CW-MFC generates a stable current density of over 2 A/m3 with a resistor of 1 kΩ and has a chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency of more than 90% after the startup of 2 to 3 d. A series of systems with the electrode spacings of 10, 20, 30 and 40 cm are compared. It is found that the container with the electrode spacing of 20 cm gains the highest voltage of 560 mV, the highest power density of 0. 149 W/m 3, and the highest Coulombic efficiency of 0.313%. It also has the highest COD removal efficiency of 94. 9%. In addition, the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations are observed as the lowest level in the middle of all the CW-MFC reactors. The results show that the more COD is removed, the greater power is generated, and the relatively higher Coulombic efficiency will be achieved. The present study indicates that the CW-MFC process can be used as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment with simultaneous power generation. 展开更多

高氮磷、低C/N比污水愈发常见,其处理技术的开发具有重要意义。利用废铁屑构建废铁屑-Ti(RuO_(2))三维电极,处理实际高氮磷、低C/N比污水。探讨了铁屑填充率、反应时间和槽电压对电氧化效率的影响及Cl^(-)对NH_(4)^(+)-N氧化的催化作用... 高氮磷、低C/N比污水愈发常见,其处理技术的开发具有重要意义。利用废铁屑构建废铁屑-Ti(RuO_(2))三维电极,处理实际高氮磷、低C/N比污水。探讨了铁屑填充率、反应时间和槽电压对电氧化效率的影响及Cl^(-)对NH_(4)^(+)-N氧化的催化作用,并进行了动力学分析。结果表明:30%体积的铁屑可将COD、NH_(4)^(+)-N、TN和TP去除率分别提高19.9%、31.8%、41.3%和79.8%;铁屑的投加提高了电氧化效率,同时PO_(4)^(3-)与Fe^(3+)沉淀而被去除;最佳反应时间和槽电压分别为80 min和10 V;Cl^(-)的投加促进了Cl_(2)和HClO的生成,进而将NH_(4)^(+)-N直接氧化为N2,大幅降低了NO_(3)^(-)-N和NO_(2)^(-)-N积累;在Cl^(-)与NH_(4)^(+)的最佳摩尔比4∶1时,TN去除速率常数由0.27 min^(-1)增至0.69 min^(-1),此时,NH_(4)^(+)-N、TN和TP的去除率分别达96.8%、93.4%和98.1%。以上研究结果可为高氮磷、低C/N污水的快速处理提供参考。 展开更多

A novel high gravity electrochemical reactor with multi-concentric cylindrical electrodes was used in the electrochemical treatment of 5 000 mg/L phenol-containing wastewater at a petrochemical plant, which can operate continuously and process in a large scale. The results show that the high gravity technology used in electrochemical treatment of phenol-containing wastewater can shorten the electrolysis time, decrease the electrolysis voltage, and reduce the energy consumption. The COD removal efficiency was high in the high-gravity field, and reached up to about 48%, which was about 2 times the value achieved in the normal gravity field at a processing capacity of 6 L, a high gravity factor of 80, a voltage of 12 V, an electrolysis time of 40 min, and a wastewater flowrate of 80 L/h. 展开更多

Aluminum spent potlining (SPL) was employed as both the fluxing agent and a source of carbonaceous reductant for the carbothermic reduction of chromite, aiming to allow effective separation of alloy from the slag component. The experimental results show that the carbonaceous component of the SPL is more reactive towards chromite reduction compared to graphite. The formation of refractory spinel (MgAl2O4) on chromite particles hinders further reduction and alloy growth. The slag-making components of the SPL (e.g. nepheline and NaF) form molten slags at low temperatures (~1300℃) and partly dissolve the refractory spinel as well as the chromite. Destruction of the spinel layer with enhanced mass transfer greatly improves the alloy growth, which can be further promoted by reduction at a higher temperature (e.g. 1500℃). Ferrochrome alloy particles grow large enough at 1500℃ in the presence of SPL, allowing effective separation from the slag component using elutriation separation. 展开更多

And the electrochemical perromance of the coke modified with various active components was studied. The results show that the coke modified with Fe(NO3)2 has the lowest energy consumption and higher COD removal rate under the same condition, and the modified coke has better surface characteristics for the purpose of this study. In addition, the kinetic constant was also calculated. The study shows that the three-dimensional electrode system with Fe (NO3)z-modified coke can give a satisfactory solution in biologically pretreated coking wastewater. 展开更多

The electrochemical treatment of wastewater containing chlorophenols (2-monochlorophenol, 4-monochlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol) was carried out experimentally with synthetic boron-d0ped diamond (BDD) thin film electrodes. Current vs time curves under different cell voltages were measured. Removal rate of COD, instant current efficiency (ICE) and energy consumption were investigated under different current densities. The influence of supporting media is reported, which plays an important role in determining the global oxidation rate. The oxidative chloride is stronger than peroxodisulphate. The electrochemical characteristics of boron-doped diamond electrodes were investigated in comparison with active coating Ti substrate anode (ACT). The experimental results show that BDD is markedly superior to ACT due to its different absorption properties. 展开更多

The experimental results show that the electrodeposition of PbO 2 at a higher current density for a short time, then followed by a lower current density can get a compact and combinative PbO 2 layer. The properties of a Ti/PbO 2 electrode with an interlayer of oxide are the best. When this kind of electrode is used to treat phenol containing waste water, the phenol removal rate is higher and the slot voltage is lower. In addition, by using the phenol removal rate as an index, the influences of electrolysis current density, mass transfer condition and pH were studied and the optimal condition was confirmed. 展开更多

A sequential anode-cathode double-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC), in which the effluent of anode chamber was used as a continuous feed for an aerated cathode chamber, was constructed in this experiment to investigate the performance of brewery wastewater treatment in conjugation with electricity generation. Carbon fiber was used as anode and plain carbon felt with biofilm as cathode. When hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 14.7 h, a relatively high chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency of 91.7%-95.7% was achieved under long-term stable operation. The MFC displayed an open circuit voltage of 0.434 V and a maximum power density of 830 mW/m^3 at an external resistance of 300 0. To estimate the electrochemical performance of the MFC, electrochemical measurements were carried out and showed that polarization resistance of anode was the major limiting factor in the MFC. Since a high COD removal efficiency was achieved, we conclude that the sequential anode-cathode MFC constructed with bio-cathode in this experiment could provide a new approach for brewery wastewater treatment. 展开更多
