The relationship between Compton scattered photon counts per unit mass and the content of a component in a binary powder mixture is deduced based on the Compton scattering theory.This relationship can be regarded linear after some approximations.The scattered photon counts per unit mass increases faster with the content when the difference of the atomic numbers of the two components in the binary powder mixture is larger.The relationship was verified with Compton scattering experiments on a series of Ni-Cu and Fe-C binary powder mixtures.The method of using this linear dependene of scattered photon counts on the content of a binary powder mixture to ascertain the component content in a binary mixture was introduced. 展开更多

Industrialization, Environment and Health:the Impacts of Industrial SO_2 Emission on Public Health in China

In this paper, we construct a model in which the impact of pollution on health is exerted through both direct and indirect channels. The indirect channel is captured by a production func-tion in which the principal health-improving factor, income growth, can be realized only in the cost of pollution increase. This model is then tested by the aggregated chronicle disease data in over 78 Chinese counties. Our results show, after attaining the threshold of 8 μg/m2, continuous increase in industrial SO2 emission density will lead the ratio of population suffering chronicle diseases, among which respiratory diseases occupy a significant proportion, to rise. However, owing to technological progress in pollution control activities, the needed SO2 emission to produce one unit of GDP diminishes with time. Therefore, the negative effect from pollution augmentation on public health seems to be recompensed more and more by the positive effect of economic growth. 展开更多

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of irinotecan (CPT-11) plus cisplatin (DDP) in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) as second-line chemotherapy. Methods: Patients received irinotecan 60 mg/m^2 on days 1, 8, 15, and cisplatin 25 mg/m^2 on days 1-3, every 28 days one cycle. Response was evaluated every two cycles and patients were follow-up for two years or until death. Results: Among the 28 evaluable patients, there were 1 CR, 7 PR, 8 SD and 12 PD. The response rate was 28.6% (8/28). Median time to progression (TTP) was 3.2 (0.8-5.6) months. Median survival after second-line treatment was 7.5 (1.5-31) months and overall survival was 15 (2.3-43.5) months. The most common adverse effect was hematological toxicity with 36.7% (11/30), grades Ⅲ-Ⅳ neutroperia. Hepatic toxicity was another major side effect. Only one patient developed grade Ⅲ diarrhea. Conclusion: The combination of irinotecan and cisplatin is feasible, effective, and safe for SCLC as second-line treatment. 展开更多

Challenges using electronic nursing routine data for outcome analyses:A mixed methods study

Objectives To explore the challenges of secondary use of routinely collected data for analyzing nursing-sensitive outcomes in Austrian acute care hospitals.Method A convergent parallel mixed methods design was performed.We conducted a quantitative representative survey with nursing managers from 32 Austrian general acute care hospitals and 11 qualitative semi-structured interviews with nursing quality management experts.Both results were first analyzed independently and afterward merged in the discussion.Results On average,76%of nursing documentation is already electronically supported in the surveyed Austrian hospitals.However,existing nursing data is seldom used for secondary purposes such as nursing-sensitive outcome analyses.This is due to four major reasons:First,hospitals often do not have a data strategy for the secondary use of routine data.Second,hospitals partly lack the use of standardized and uniform nursing terminologies,especially for nursing evaluation.Third,routine nursing data is often not documented correctly and completely.Fourth,data on nursing-sensitive outcomes is usually collected in specific documentation forms not integrated into routine documentation.Conclusion The awareness of the possibilities for secondary use of nursing data for nursing-sensitive outcome analyses in Austrian hospitals is still in its infancy.Therefore,nursing staff and nursing management must be trained to understand how to collect and process nursing data for nursing-sensitive outcome analyses.Further studies would be interesting in order to determine the factors that influence the decision-making processes for the secondary use of nursing data for outcome analyses. 展开更多

Bandung, adopted a policy to build Waste to Energy (WTE) systems with a combustion capacity of 500 tons/day. WTE technologies will burn waste that is fed and utilized energy generated to be converted into electrical energy. This technology has the potential to reduce the volume of waste more effectively, but WTE also emit various harmful contaminants, including Polychlorinated Dibenzofurans (PCDF) and Polychlorinated Dibenzo-p-Dioxins (PCDDs). WTE equipped with air pollution control, so that the emission of harmful contaminants can be controlled and detected continuously. This study only discusses contaminants PCDF and PCDDs, and the effect of air pollution control work against public health risks. In this study, the efficiency of air pollution control is assumed at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90% and 99%, while the public health risk assessment carried out for the projected 15 years into the future. Public health risk assessment carried out by the calculation of the health risk of carcinogenic (liver cancer). A causal relationship between the independent variable efficiency of air pollution control with one dependent variable number of liver cancer patients, obtained the simple linear regression equation Y = 76.4592 - 0.7692X. 展开更多

Quantitative Evaluation of Neuroplastic Biomaterial for Human Brain Rehabilitation to Stroke Subjects

Measurement for rehab... Neurorehabilitation involves training of brain activity, which influences the resistive torque and electromyogram. This quantitative evaluation is numerical modeling of biomaterial of human body. Measurement for rehabilitation and developing numerical modeling in patients are useful for information technology education with healthcare background. The resistive torque and electromyogram were measured. Electromyogram is the neuronal activity from eight lower limb muscles. Both activities are output signals for angle input signals. The resistive torque of a stroke patient shows a hysteresis curve, and this is a velocity-dependent component, particular for stroke. Differentiated angle by muscle spindle, a velocity-dependent component, is a stretch reflex (spasticity). In an electromyogram of a stroke patient, SLR (stretch reflex via spinal cord) means a short latency reflex, and LLR (stretch reflex via cerebral cortex) means a long latency reflex. An example of some stroke electromyogram shows long latency reflex, and this is voluntary movement during the experiment. The example of some stroke resistive torque reveals that viscoelasticity is used for the intrinsic component. The example of some stroke electromyogram reveals that long latency reflex is used for the reflex component of lower limbs. Current research needs improvement. Intrinsic viscoelasticity is modeled by a second-order differential equation. The reflex component of stroke patients is modeled by a double exponential function. Open source software is in use. Information technology-based analyses by numerical modeling would be applied in future healthcare education. 展开更多

Objective:To observe the improving effect of muscle regions of meridians needling method on the upper limb function in children with cerebral palsy of spastic hemiplegic type.Methods:A total of 100 children with cerebral palsy of spastic hemiplegia type were divided into a treatment group and a control group according to the visiting sequence,with 50 cases in each group.The control group was treated with conventional rehabilitation plus conventional acupuncture treatment.The treatment group was treated with conventional rehabilitation plus muscle regions of meridians needling method.The electromyography(EMG)signal values of triceps brachii and pronator teres were detected before treatment,and 3 months and 6 months after treatment.The clinical efficacy was evaluated by Peabody developmental motor scale-fine motor(PDMS-FM)and fine motor function measure(FMFM).Results:Three and six months after treatment,the EMG signal values of triceps brachii and pronator teres,grasping scores and visual-motor integrated scores of PDMS-FM and the FMFM scores in both groups increased to varying degrees compared with the same group before treatment,and the intra-group differences were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).Six months after treatment,the results of the above three items in the treatment group were all better than those in the control group,and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion:Muscle regions of meridians needling method added on the basis of conventional rehabilitation can effectively reduce the muscle tone of upper limb and enhance the muscle strength,and improve the upper limb function in children with cerebral palsy of spastic hemiplegia type.The efficacy is superior to that of the conventional rehabilitation plus conventional acupuncture treatment. 展开更多

The biochar research has progressed considerably with important key findings on agronomic benefits, carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions, soil acidity, soil fertility, soil health, soil salinity, etc., but more research is required before definitive recommendations can be made to end-users regarding the effects of biochar application across a range of soils, climates and land management practices. 展开更多
