To fulfill the Chinese government's commitment that Chinese CO2 emissions would peak in 2030, as a result, improving the energy efficiency and reducing the emissions from the building sector is significantly important. A survey, in the form of a questionnaire, of energy consumption and thermal situation in different residential building types (detached house, multi-story building, high-rise building), was undertaken in three cities (Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Changzhou) in hot-summer and cold-winter regions, these three cities were selected to represent the most flourishing economic provinces. This region in China was selected for the evaluation of EETP (energy and thermal performance analysis), because of its special weather conditions, huge energy consumption (as both heating in winter and cooling in summer are necessary), and other regional characteristics. 183 households were sampled and experiments were separately done in typical examples of three different building types. Systematic evaluation on EETP for three different residential building types, were put forward to assess the energy efficiency and thermal performance of three different building types.展开更多

The non-linear dynamic response of tall buildings structures were obtained using five simulated models, which were subjected to UBC code dynamic and static equivalent earthquake loads. The maximum response of the structural models were computed and analyzed in order to verify the effects of building configuration on drift results. Drift results agreed with codes recommendations regarding building configuration and showed that regular buildings performance in resisting earthquake forces is better than that of irregular buildings.展开更多

In the tropics, the outdoor thermal comfort conditions during daytime are often far above acceptable comfort standards due to intense solar radiation and high solar elevations. This study aims to know effects of simple and fundamental building forms on microclimate and outdoor thermal comfort in a high dense tropical city, focusing on Dhaka, Bangladesh as a study city. Investigations are carried out on existing area and model areas with modified building forms (in respect of height and shape) on the microclimate as well as on outdoor thermal comfort during daytime in summer. This study has demonstrated that the model using less ground coverage and higher buildings can offer a better thermal climate than the models using maximum ground coverage in a high-density tropical city.展开更多
Elimination of human losses is the main and immediate task in the seismic vulnerability problem.The authors suggest the ways of development of seismic research and discussion of defense problems for reducing of seismi...Elimination of human losses is the main and immediate task in the seismic vulnerability problem.The authors suggest the ways of development of seismic research and discussion of defense problems for reducing of seismic vulnerability. It is the ways of nonlinear seismology region. Unconditionally seism zoning and the theory of catastrophes allow reduce human losses and building destruction. But well-known isoseists are the private case of caustic catastrophe theory or seismo-acoustics, so seism zoning can be amounted to 6 elementary catastrophe forms. It will better help to predict seismic actions. The short-time local prediction of seismic events is general method for strong reducing of human losses. This method takes into account chaotic properties of stress fields and waves and the peculiarities of urban area. It bases on the natural seismo-emission phenomenon and is realized by long-time monitoring, which gives statistically and geographically continuous picture (chart) of seismic noise level inside geologic media. The instruments of this strategy are shock and pressure-proofed seismometers for long-time monitoring and control the state of geological media including underwater shelf areas. The authors think that the active protecting for cities and buildings as the best modem form of people safety consists in stress discharge of geologic media. Ultrasonic wave defense includes and bases on strong interaction between powerful waves from earthquake and ultrasonic wave train. The authors want to point out that the technical objects may be used lbr the investigation of earthquakes induced and some reasons of seismic vulnerability. Also reducing of seismic vulnerability contains as component kinetic acting on volcano at the pre-explosive stage. The interesting and important aspect of defense problem is observation of the inharmonic wave processes in the soil and quasi-constant forces as the nearest seismic analogue of radiation forces in nonlinear acoustics under powerful earthquake seismic tremor.展开更多
