From the actual cases of coal mines, a new mode of coal mining under buildings with the technology was proposed. And its specificity was analyzed, and a further introduction to the full sand soil solidifying material was given. The main parts of the backfill system, such as the backfill preparation system, the pipeline transportation system, the backfill systems in fully mechanized mining faces and the backfill process, were presented emphatically.展开更多

The second part reports a case study of application of this second methodology of approach, concerning the St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception of Montecalvario in Naples, an important monumental church situated into the historic centre of Naples, built between 1718 and 1726 by one of the greatest Italian architects of the XVIII century, Domenico Antonio Vaccaro. The building, that presents all the structural and lexical peculiarities of Neapolitan Baroque (central plan, altimetric development of concentric volumes, plastic virtuosity of structural and formal apparatuses), finds in its formal conception and in its stylistic conception part of its structural vulnerabilities. The study examines the understanding of cracks affecting the Church, also in relation to around historic buildings, in order to determine a diagnosis and to understand how this condition of structural vulnerability could be combined with future seismic strain, having high local seismicity and damages suffered during the earthquakes of the last three centuries.展开更多

In this regard, it is a pedagogic challenge to provide a suitable computational background for architectural students, to improve their ability to apply algorithmic-parametric logic, as well as fabrication and prototyping resources to design problem solving. This challenge is even stronger when considering less favored social and technological contexts, such as in Brazil, for example. In this scenario, this article presents and discusses the procedures and the results from a didactic experience carried out in a design computing-oriented discipline, inserted in the curriculum of a Brazilian architecture course. Hence, this paper shares some design computing teaching experiences and presents some results on computational methods and creative approaches, with a view to contribute to a better understanding about the relations between logical thinking, mathematics and architectural design processes.展开更多

Then with the application of relational database, the case database of high-rise structures is constructed, the structure form-selection designing methods such as the smart algorithm based on CBR, DM, FINS, NN and GA is presented, and the original forms system of this method and its general structure are given. CBR and DM are used to generate scheme candidates; FINS and NN to evaluate and optimize the scheme performance; GA to create new structure forms. Finally, the application cases are presented, whose results fit in with the real project. It proves by combining and using the expert intelligence, algorithm intelligence and machine intelligence that this method makes good use of not only the engineering project knowledge and expertise but also much deeper knowledge contained in various engineering cases. In other words, it is because the form selection has a strong background support of vast real cases that its results prove more reliable and more acceptable. So the introduction of this method provides an effective approach to improving the quality, efficiency, automatic and smart level of high-rise structures form selection design.展开更多

As part of this project the "FEMA 154 Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazard" and the "NRC92 Manual for Screening of Buildings for Seismic Investigation" were used to assess 102 school buildings located in the city of Montr6al. Results for both methods are in reasonable agreement, with 65% of the buildings requiring a detailed evaluation according to FEMAI54 and 50% according to NRC92. Findings highlighted the particular characteristics of educational facilities: they are low rise buildings with high incidence of structural irregularities. Accounting for them in the screening phase is essential, and is better achieved by NRC92. However, this method is largely based on expert opinion, which makes it difficult to update, while FEMA154 uses a rational methodology for calculating vulnerability scores based on the capacity spectrum approach. The FEMA154 analytical procedure allows updating and adapting the method to its use outside its intended scope.展开更多

The result is a "green-washed" education in architecture. To address this issue, this paper describes a teaching methodology of architectural design with a special focus on sustainability implemented in the Graduate School of Architecture in Clemson. This method includes an analysis of the location, the climate conditions, the materials needed and the construction process. Knowing that sustainable design is generally perceived as being expensive, there is a special focus on simplicity and affordability. Rather than relying on expensive technical solutions, students are encouraged to design for the given environment and apply passive strategies. In the approach discussed in this paper, the design process is a number of logical scientific decisions rather than an intuitive draft. The goal of this pedagogy is to raise awareness about how to handle global resources carefully and to show the importance of the later performance of the project as a key to design. The teaching strategy is described here along with the successful participation by our graduate students in a number of refereed competitions.展开更多

Just as a good tutor would practice different techniques of teaching, an assessor would usually use different strategies of assessment. Moreover, the different activities of assessment, such as teaching, are additionally executed at various times during the semester, thus, we can know in which way the student is learning. An assessment strategy lays out a well thoroughly considered choice of assessment methods that are aligned with the aims and learning outcomes. Because align the assessment with a specific kind of learning outcome, the tutor needs to choose a suitable technique of assessment. This paper draws upon a case study of the first year architectural design at Pharos University as another way to deal with realizing "how to design your assessment plan". Throughout the form of criteria based assessment, assessment can help to review the students and instructors feeling and reactions. Finally, we can learn to assist towards enhancing student learning through assessment. So, we can attract the consideration regarding the advantages of reviewing current assessment practices, and of accepting different ways to deal with assessment methods, in this manner profiting together student and tutor.展开更多

This approach is expected to foster the students' design skills in design studios. The approach is an educational tool for tutors that could guide the students and increase their creativity in their design. It considers the concepts and the practice of digital architectural design that influence architectural education. The approach is a catalyst for creativity, experimentation, critical thinking and the sustained growth of creative communities. The core of design studio is the notions, methods and skills of digital architectural design. The instruments used for this research was an investigation that made for the work of the fourth year students designs at the architectural department at University of Jordan, by testing design process and product of students' work: first using manual skills, and then using computer-aided programs. The results revealed that the computer-based design approach was able to foster students' design skills as well as to develop their creativity in design. Ninety-one percent of 44 students were found improved in design process using computer-based approach that depends on computer programs. This was done in design studio by improving students' way of thinking, developing their abilities to direct their own learning and pushing them for new definitions in developing their future work.展开更多

Although much work has been carried out on the integration of NDN and SDN, the forwarding mechanism to solve the inherent problems caused by the flooding scheme and discard of interest packets in traditional NDN is not well considered. To fill this gap, by taking advantage of SDN, we design a novel forwarding mechanism in NDN architecture with distributed controllers, where routing decisions are made globally. Then we show how the forwarding mechanism is operated for interest and data packets. In addition, we propose a novel routing algorithm considering quality of service(QoS) applied in the proposed forwarding mechanism and carried out in controllers. We take both resource consumption and network load balancing into consideration and introduce a genetic algorithm(GA) to solve the QoS constrained routing problem using global network information. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed routing scheme.展开更多

This article provides a simple method to solve the contention for network resource in one of the spatial architecture, i.e. the tera-op, reliable, intelligently adaptive processing system(TRIPS) processor. The method improves the performance of network by increasing the bypass bandwidth which can transmit the data in the internal of every execution unit, and converting the proportion of remote communication by the deep scheduling algorithm. The deeply optimized algorithm is realized to verify the validity of the method, and the performance increase 9% for floating point spec2000 benchmark is got.展开更多
