高校英语教学若干矛盾及其解析

为了实现高等院校英语教学的预期目标,各高等院校对英语教学的关注与投入是巨大的。但存在的种种问题也不容忽视。这些问题突出表现为应试的制约、贯彻素质教育难度大、汉语水平降低等矛盾。这些矛盾由来已久,属于高校英语教学实践中比较突出,且应尽快解决的矛盾。这些矛盾的解决将有利于英语教学效果的改进。

职高英语课程资源开发利用探究

职高英语教师应该高度重视课程资源的开发和利用，在这个过程中创造性地开展多种活动，全面提高学生的语言应用能力和交际能力。首先是开发和利用好教材资源；其次是开发和利用好教师资源；再次是开发和利用好学生资源。只有这样，我们才能够在职高英语教学中师生互动，达到提高英语教学效果的目的。

Lecturers’Efforts in Building Rapport in the English-Medium Instruction(EMI)Context:Focus on the Use of Communication Strategies

Past studies reveal the prevalence of anxiety,coupled with low motivation and disengagement among students in English-medium instruction(EMI)programs.Given the detrimental impact these negative emotions can have on learning outcomes,it is imperative that teachers establish positive emotional rapport with their students.This study explores how experienced and highly rated EMI lecturers at a Chinese university’s overseas campus use communication strategies to build rapport with their students during interactive academic activities.It identifies the strategies used by these lecturers and examines how the strategies facilitate the teaching-learning process.The data,consisting of 10 hours of tutorials and 10 hours of supervisor-student supervision meetings,is analyzed using an adapted Conversation Analysis(CA)approach.The analysis reveals three types of communication strategies(CSs)frequently used by lecturers:back-channeling,codeswitching,and co-creation of messages.By employing these strategies,the lecturers established a strong rapport with the students,which created an encouraging and supportive learning environment.Consequently,this positive atmosphere facilitated students’learning of content knowledge through English.The findings of this study have implications for the training of lecturers who encounter difficulties in establishing rapport with multilingual students in the EMI setting.

An Exploration of the Interactive Web-based College English Teaching Model

In the light of the theory of constructivism, the interactive web-based college English teaching model is intended to facilitate ＂autonomy＂, ＂inquiry＂ and ＂cooperation＂ in learning English. This paper presents a research in which the interactive web-based college English teaching model intends to reshape the teacher＇s and learner＇s roles in the classroom. Based on the research, an exploration is made --- within the framework of the interactive web-based model --- on the design of ＂teaching model＂ and ＂learning model＂, its application and related potential problems.

A Lexical-Chunk Based Study of Business English Correspondence Writing

Lexical chunks are multiword lexical phenomena that exist somewhere between the traditional poles of lexicon and syntax, conventionalized form/function composites that occur more frequently and have more idiomatically determined meaning than language that is put together each time. Lexical chunks theory supports the development of syntactic rules, helps learners to achieve idiomaticity and appropriateness of business expressions, and benefits successful business communication. Through the study of lexical chunks, the major findings are that possibility of lexical chunks in business English correspondences is relatively high, and among factors influencing discourse coherence, lexical chunks are the main point that has already attracted much attention of users. Based on the study, some pedagogical suggestions are provided in business English correspondence writing class.

Research and Analysis on the College English Teaching Emphasis from the Cultural Migration and Transformation of Thinking Perspectives

In this paper, we conduct research on the college English teaching emphasis from the cultural migration and transformation ofthinking perspectives. College English has long been in for the college English subject status. However, college English as a multidisciplinary,interdisciplinary research in the field of discipline construction, it seems, are still stay in the linguistics, language knowledge in academiccharacteristics for its stage of development. Reform of basic college English teaching, the teacher is still teaching main body, is the teaching oflanguage knowledge, since teachers play an important role in language teaching, the teacher wants to penetrate cultural knowledge in teachingand we must strengthen their own culture. A Corpus-Based Study of Adverbial Connectors in Native and Non-native Students＇ Writing

In writing and speaking, adverbial connectors always play a part to connect different parts together at both semantic and syntactic aspects. For it is so important that a lot of scholars have made and are making a series of studies to their functions. On the basis of corpus-based study, this paper firstly makes a comparison to the usage of adverbial connectors in their writings of the native students and non-native students and then exposes a distinctive gap between these two types of writings in usage of adverbial connectors. In order to help Chinese second-language learners acquire English as well as English native speakers do, this study deeply digs this gap and in further provides several pedagogical suggestions for English teachers and second-language learners.

Guidance of Constructivist Theory for English Teaching

The traditional English teaching methods are mainly based on teachers＇ words and students＇ listening type. Neither the quality of teaching can be guaranteed, nor are students＇ thinking ability and innovation developed. To change this situation, many educators have done a lot of research and exploration from both theoretical and practical aspects, of which constructivist theory is one of main results. Constructivist theory emphasizes that leaming is a process of knowledge acquisition. Knowledge can not only get from teachers, but also requires learners to learn from others＇ help in some particular context, with the necessary leaming materials, and through a way of meaning construction. Besides, it has important reference and inspiration effects on discipline study and conducting educational research.

Interactive English Reading Community Based on Social Network Sites

One of the major trends in the reform of English language teaching is the application of network technologies. This paper discusses the application of social network sites in building an interactive English reading community under the guidance of the constructivist learning theory and its influence on the learners＇ English reading. This SNS-aided reading community puts the students as the center and the teacher the guide, embodying students＇ subjectivity, equality, and interactivity. The study shows that the interactive English reading community can motivate students to read, improve their reading skills, and thus develop a new SNS-aided English reading model for English learners.

Construction Strategy Exploration of College English Listening and Speaking Course Under the Network Environment

In order to make college students better adapt to modem social need, improving college students＇ English comprehensive ability has become the top priority of the current college English teaching. However, many problems still exist in the process of actual college English listening and speaking teaching. This paper mainly discusses the existing problems of college English listening teaching, and then puts forward college English listening and speaking construction strategy under the network environment.

ECOCRITICAL APPROACH TO ENGLISH LITERATURE IN A CHINESE CONTEXT

English literature is of great importance to the Chinese learners of English. This paper seeks to find some solution to the decline in the teaching of English literature in a Chinese context. Problems in a Chinese class are first analyzed. And then from a constructivist perspective that knowledge can be best mastered when students find their personal involvement with what they are learning, a proposal is put forward that a critical attitude and response to the literary texts are important. To introduce critical activities into class, one has first to help students overcome their 'theory anxieties' brought forth by the advanced development of critical theories. Ecocriticism as an ethical critical approach to literature does not hold a big corpus of new and academic terms, and thus is a most desirable substitute, which also cares for the current issues of ecological calamities. Sample students' reactions to ecocriticism in a Chinese class are offered.
