This technique takes advantage of the large difference in etching properties for different crystallographic planes in alkaline solution. The minimum size of the trapezoidal top for those Si nanostructures can be reduced to less than 10nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) observations indicate that the etched nanostructures have controllable shapes and smooth surfaces.展开更多

How far these aspects also affect the ion exchange processes and to what extent the interaction between the carbon distribution and kind of organic substances affect the internal soil strength as well as hydraulic properties like wettability are still under discussion. Thus, the objective of this research was to clarify the effect of soil aggregation on physical and chemical properties of structured soils at two scales: homogenized material and single aggregates. Data obtained by sequentially peeling off soil aggregates layers revealed gradients in the chemical composition from the aggregate surface to the aggregate core. In aggregates from long term untreated forest soils we found lower amounts of carbon in the external layer, while in arable soils the differentiation was not pronounced. However, soil aggregates originating from these sites exhibited a higher concentration of microbial activity in the outer aggregate layer and declined towards the interior. Furthermore, soil depth and the vegetation type affected the wettability. Aggregate strength depended on water suction and differences in tillage treatments.展开更多

The results showed that the five strains all synthesized pectin lyase(PL), polygalacturonase(PG), and pectin methylesterase(PM).Among them, strain CAP5 had strong ability to produce PG and PL,while strain CAP4 secreted a large amount of PM. Under optimized conditions, the activity of PG, PL, and PM of the five strains came in at 250.17~411.20 U/mL, 12.98~16.55 U/mL, and 208.52~322.83 U/mL,respectively. The four factors of nitrogen source concentration, fermentation time, Mn2+ concentration, and pH value were optimized and the optimal pectinase-producing fermentation conditions for five strains were as follows: peptone 2.2 g/L, fermentation time 30 h, Mn2+ 1.5 mmol/L, and pH 4.3. After fermentation under the optimized conditions, the maximum PG activity of CAP5 amounted to 411.20 U/mL, 114.03% higher than that before optimization.Meanwhile, the PG activity of strains CAP3, CAP4, CAP8, and CAP10 increased by 86.74%, 114.55%, 65.79%, and 66.07%,respectively, and the activity of PL and PM of the five strains rose 150.35%~218.56% and 341.07%~418.52%, respectively. These findings suggested that W. anomalus strains could be used as coffee starter and had great potential for the lysis of pectin.展开更多

However, they have not been as extensively studied as other macrofaunal groups such as polychaetes, gastropods, bivalves, and crustaceans. Under the assumption that oligochaete density and biomass obey specific geographical distribution patterns in subtropical mangrove wetlands of China, we investigated these two parameters in the Luoyang Estuary of Quanzhou Bay, Zhangjiang Estuary and Gaoqiao mangrove wetlands. A geographical gradient in oligochaete density was present in Aegiceras corniculatum and Kandelia obovata habitats, whereby it decreased from lower latitudes to higher latitudes. Further, ANOVA tests on oligochaete distribution revealed that both oligochaete density and biomass were significantly influenced by region, season and region × season at the A. corniculatum and K. obovata habitats. The annual average oligochaete density and biomass at the A. corniculatum habitat were higher than that at the K. obovata habitat, in both the Luoyang and Zhangjiang estuaries. There were significant correlations between oligochaete density and biomass and sediment particle size parameters, confirming that sand, silt, and clay contents were the key environmental factors affecting oligochaete distribution.展开更多

To elucidate whether autoreactive T cells to G1 are expressed in rheumatoid arthritis patients, we analyzed the frequency of human G1-specific T cells in the peripheral blood of five rheumatoid arthritis patients and tried to establish G1-reactive T cell lines from these rheumatoid arthritis patients. The results showed that the G1-specific T cells in PBL were detectable at the range of 4.97 ±0.5 ×10-6 in peripheral blood lymphocytes. We have also generated 15 G1-specific T lymphocyte lines from these pateints with a standard split-well method. All these cells expressed fine specificity to human recombinant G1, but not to unrelated antigen. All the 15 lines expressed a panT cell marker and 13 of them selectively used the αβ T cell receptor. Two of them used rye T cell receptor. The 13 of these T cell lines was CD4 positive. One line expressed CD8. One line expressed both CD4 and CD8. Moreover, 14 out of 15 lines expressed the Th-1 cytokine profile, characterized by interferon-γpositivity and IL-4 negativity. No Th-2 type cell line was generated. These data provide strong evidence in favor of the presence of autoreactive T cells in the rheumatoid arthritis pateints. What is the mechanism(s) that these autoreactive T cells attack self-target and whether these G1-specific, Th-1 type T cell lines can induce arthritis in immune deficiency mice are currently under investigation.展开更多

Methods: Forty patients, 20 with congenital heart disease (CHD) and 20 of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) , were divided into 2 groups: Control group (group A, n =20) including 10 patients suffering from CHD as group Al and the left 10 from RHD as group A2; and experiment group (group B, n =20) which consisting of group B1 (10 with CHD) and group B2 (10 of RHD). The patients in group A underwent traditional arrested-heart procedures, and those in group B were operated on with beating-heart procedures. Arterial blood samples were collected at preoperation (time A) , 20 min after cardiopul-monary bypass (CPB) starting (time B) , 1 h after CPB (time C) and 24 h postoperation (time D) respectively. Plasma contents of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and protein S-100b were measured with sensitive ELISA. All the patients received echoencephalography (EEG) before and 1 week after operation. Results: The plasma contents of protein S-lOOb were increased very significantly at time B, C and D in comparison with those at time A (P<0.01) , and that of patients in group Al was significantly higher than that in group B at time B (P < 0. 05 ). There was no significant difference at other time points. At time B, the plasma contents of NSE were significantly higher in group A than in group B, and in group Al and Bl than in group A2 and B2. What's more, at time B, the former fell back to their pre-operative levels, but the latter remained still higher levels than the preoperative ones ( P < 0.01). No significant difference was found in the abnormality rates of postoperative EEG between 2 groups. Conclusion: The perioperative plasma contents of NSE and protein S-100b are not significantly higher in group B than in group A. On-pump beating-heart procedures do not make more serious cerebral dysfunction than the traditional arrested-heart procedures.展开更多

The results showed that for the control, the cumulative carbon dioxide (CO2) flux from WBF soil during the 15-day incubation ranged from 5.44 to 5.82 g CO2-C m-2, which was significantly larger than that from BKPF soil (2.86 to 3.36 g CO2-C m 2). With increasing wetting intensity, the cumulative CO2 flux from the control was decreased for the WBF soil, whereas an increase in the CO2 flux was observed in the BKPF soil (P 〈 0.05). The addition of NH4C1 or KNO3 alone significantly reduced the cumulative CO2 fluxes by 9.2%-21.6 % from the two soils, especially from WBF soil at low wetting intensity. The addition of glucose alone significantly increased soil heterotrophic respiration, microbial biomass C (MBC), and microbial metabolic quotient. The glucose-induced cumulative CO2 fluxes and soil MBC during the incubation ranged from 8.7 to 11.7 g CO2-C m-2 and from 7.4 to 23.9 g C m-2, which are larger than the dose of added C. Hence, the addition of external carbon can increase the decomposition of soil native organic C. The glucose-induced average and maximum rates of CO2 fluxes during the incubation were significantly in- fluenced by wetting intensity (WI) and vegetation type (VT), and by WIxVT, NH4ClxVT and WIxVTxNH4C1 (P〈0.05). The addition of NH4C1, instead of KNO3, significantly decreased the glucose-induced MBC of WBF soil (P〈0.05), whereas adding NH4C1 and KNO3 both significantly increased the glucose-induced MBC of BKPF soil at high moisture (P〈0.05). According to the differences in soil labile C pools, MBC and CO2 fluxes in the presence and absence of glucose, it can be concluded that the stimulating effects of glucose on soil heterotrophic respiration and MBC under temperate forests were dependent on vegetation type, soil moisture, and amount and type of the N added.展开更多
