The asymptotic field of a dynamically growing crack in a viscoelastic materia

A mechanical model of a fracturing viscoelastic material was developed to investigate viscous effects in a dynamically growing crack-tip field. It was shown that in the stable creep-growing phase, elastic deformation and viscous deformation are equally dominant in the near-tip field, and stress and strain have the same singularity, namely, (σ-e)∝r^-1/(n-1). The asymptotic solution of separating variables of stress, stain and displacement in the crack-tip field was obtained by asymptotic analysis, and the resulting numerical value of stress and strain in the crack-tip field was obtained by the shooting method and the boundary condition of a mode I crack. Through numerical calculation, it was shown that the near-tip fields are mainly governed by the creep exponent n and Mach number M. When n →∞, the asymptotic solution of a viscoelastic material can be degenerated into that of Freund's elastic-ideally plastic material by analyzing basic equations. 展开更多

In this paper, we show one of the possibility utilizing typical origami structures for civil engineering fields such as the bridge bearing support. We numerically investigate axial spring constants and buckling behaviors of bellows-like origami tube structures. The bellows-like origami tube structures, which can be folded because of elastic deformations, work as a kind of spring. If the initial heights of the bellows-like origami tubes are less than 90% of the height of the prismatic tubes without bellows-like folded lines, the spring constants of the bellows-like tubes are very low compared with those of the prismatic tubes. The buckling loads and patterns of the bellows-like tubes vary depending on the initial heights of the tubes. 展开更多

The effects of blend composition and micro-phase structure on the mechanical behavior of A/B polymer blend film are studied by coupling the Monte Carlo(MC) simulation of morphology with the lattice spring model(LSM) of micro mechanics of materials.The MC method with bond length fluctuation and cavity diffusion algorithm on cubic lattice is adopted to simulate the micro-phase structure of A/B polymer blend.The information of morphology and structure is then inputted to the LSM composed of a three-dimensional network of springs to obtain the mechanical properties of polymer blend film.Simulated results show that the mechanical response is mainly affected by the density and the composition of polymer blend film through the morphology transition.When a force is applied on the outer boundary of polymer blend film,the vicinity of the inner cavities experiences higher stresses and strains responsible for the onset of crack propagation and the premature failure of the entire system. 展开更多

Structural Optimization of Lap Link Based on Elastoplastic Finite Element Analysis

Based on finite-deformation elastoplastic theory, a scheme to solve the structural problems of the lap link by using ANSYS is proposed. The analysis results show that the maximum deformation exists at the loading spot of the lateral pin and the stiffness of this area needs to be enhanced; the maximum stresses occur at the two sides adjacent to the loading spot and the intensity around this region should be strengthened;the materials at the pole and pinhole with relatively low stress are redundant and removing excessive weight is possible. Based on the analysis, corresponding improvements are tentatively made, and the simulation results prove that, the stiffness and intensity of the new structure are improved. Furthermore, the reliability and validity of this design are verified by tensile tests of two types of structure. 展开更多

Model Order Reduction of Complex Airframes Using Component Mode Synthesis for Dynamic Aeroelasticity Load Analysis

Airframe structural optimization at different design stages results in new mass and stiffness distributions which modify the critical design loads envelop. Determination of aircraft critical loads is an extensive analysis procedure which involves simulating the aircraft at thousands of load cases as defmed in the certification requirements. It is computationally prohibitive to use a GFEM (Global Finite Element Model) for the load analysis, hence reduced order structural models are required which closely represent the dynamic characteristics of the GFEM. This paper presents the implementation of CMS (Component Mode Synthesis) method for the generation of high fidelity ROM (Reduced Order Model) of complex airframes. Here, sub-structuring technique is used to divide the complex higher order airframe dynamical system into a set of subsystems. Each subsystem is reduced to fewer degrees of freedom using matrix projection onto a carefully chosen reduced order basis subspace. The reduced structural matrices are assembled for all the subsystems through interface coupling and the dynamic response of the total system is solved. The CMS method is employed to develop the ROM of a Bombardier Aerospace business jet which is coupled with aerodynamic model for dynamic aeroelasticity loads analysis under gust turbulence. Another set of dynamic aeroelastic loads is also generated employing a stick model of same aircraft. Stick model is the reduced order modelling methodology commonly used in the aerospace industry based on stiffness generation by unitary loading application. The extracted aeroelastic loads from both models are compared against those generated employing the GFEM. Critical loads modal participation factors and modal characteristics of the different ROMs are investigated and compared against those of the GFEM. Results obtained show that the ROM generated using Craig Bampton CMS reduction process has a superior dynamic characteristics compared to the stick model. 展开更多
