Muhi-body dynamic differential equations are combined with the equations of the unsteady dynamic inflow model to establish the complete unsteadily aeroelastic coupling analytical model of the tiltrotor. The stability of the tiltrotor in the helicopter mode is analyzed aiming at a semi span soft-inplane tihrotor model with an elastic wing. Parametric effects of the lag stiffness of blades and the flight speed are analyzed. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the multibody analytical model can analyze the aeroelastic stability of the tiltrotor aircraft in the helicopter mode.展开更多

Permeability test, uni-axial compression test and THM coupling test are conducted to measure the permeability, elastic modulus and THM coupling stress-strain curves of brittle rock. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of local curvature and elastic wall effects of an isothermal hot wall for the purpose of jet impingement cooling performance.Finite element method was used with ALE.Diff...The aim of this study is to examine the effects of local curvature and elastic wall effects of an isothermal hot wall for the purpose of jet impingement cooling performance.Finite element method was used with ALE.Different important parametric effects such as Re number(between 100 and 700),Ha number(between 0 and 20),elasticity(between 104 and 109),curvature of the surface(elliptic,radius ratio between 1 and 0.25) and nanoparticle volume fraction(between 0 and 0.05) on the cooling performance were investigated numerically.The results showed that the average Nu number enhances for higher Hartmann number,higher values of elastic modulus of partly flexible wall and higher nanoparticle volume fraction.When the magnetic field is imposed at the highest strength,there is an increase of3.85% in the average Nu for the curved elastic wall whereas it is 89.22% for the hot part above it,which is due to the vortex suppression effects.Nanoparticle inclusion in the base fluid improves the heat transfer rate by about 27.6% in the absence of magnetic field whereas it is 20.5% under the effects of magnetic field at Ha=20.Curvature effects become important for higher Re numbers and at Re=700,there is 14.11% variation in the average Nu between the cases with the lowest and highest radius ratio.The elastic wall effects on the heat transfer are reduced with the increased curvature of the bottom wall.展开更多

The h-p finite element method is used to obtain high accurate solutions of the...Effect of fluid elasticity and shear-thinning viscosity on the chaotic mixing between two alternately rotating cylinders has been studied. The h-p finite element method is used to obtain high accurate solutions of the steady flow. The unsteady, periodic flow is simulated using the piecewise-steady approximation. Characteristics of the chaotic mixing are analyzed by examining the asymptotic coverage of a passive tracer and the lineal stretching of the fluid elements in the annulus. For the viscoelastic fluids modeled by the upper-convected Maxwell constitutive equation (UCM), our computation predicts little effect of the fluid elasticity on the mixing patterns. On the other hand, the shear-thinning viscosity, modeled by the Carreau equation, has a large impact on the advection of a passive tracer and the distribution of lineal stretching. We find that the zones of the lowest stretching match remarkably well with the regular zones in the tracer-coverage plotting. Our study reveals the vital importance of reducing the discretization errors of the velocity field in the numerical simulation of chaotic flews.展开更多

The smart magneto-rheological visco-elastomer (MRVE) has a promising application to vibration control.Its dynamic characteristics are described by complex moduli which are applicable to linear dynamics.However,experim...The smart magneto-rheological visco-elastomer (MRVE) has a promising application to vibration control.Its dynamic characteristics are described by complex moduli which are applicable to linear dynamics.However,experimental results show remarkable nonlinear relations between force and deformation for certain large deformations,and the nonlinear dynamic modeling needs to be developed.The present study focuses on the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of MRVE.The MRVE was fabricated and specimens were tested to show nonlinear mechanical properties and dynamic behaviors.The nonlinear effect induced by applied magnetic fields was investigated.A phenomenological model for the dynamic behaviors of MRVE was proposed to describe the nonlinear elasticity,linear damping and hysteretic effect,and the corresponding equivalent linear model in the frequency domain was also given for small deformations.The proposed model is applicable to the dynamics and control analysis of composite structures with MRVE.展开更多
