A feasible method to improve the reliability and processing efficiency of large vibrating screen via the application of an elastic screen surface with multiple attached substructures (ESSMAS) was proposed. In the ESSMAS, every screen rod, with ends embedded into elastomer, is coupled to the main screen structure in a relatively flexible manner. The theoretical analysis was conducted, which consists of establishing dynamic model promoted from the fuzzy structure theory as well as calculating for the equivalent stiffness of each attached structure. According to the numerical simulation using the NEWMARK-fl integration method, this assembling pattern significantly leads to the screen surface/rod having larger vibration intensity than that of the corresponding position on screen structure, which specifically, with an averaged acceleration amplitude increasing ratio of 11.37% in theoretical analysis and 20.27% in experimental test. The experimental results, within a tolerant error, also confirm the established model and demonstrate the feasibility of ESSMAS. 展开更多

Submerged arc welding (SAW) is advantageous for joining high thickness materials in large structure due to high material deposition rate. The non-uniform heating and cooling generates the thermal stresses and subsequently the residual stresses and distortion. The longitudinal and transverse residual stresses and angular distortion are generally measured in large panel structure of submerged arc welded fillet joints. Hence, the objective of this present work is to quantify the amount of residual stress and distortion in and around the weld joint due to positioning of stiffeners tack. The tacking sequence influences the level of residual stress and proper controlling of tacking sequences is required to minimize the stress. In present study, an elasto-plastic material behavior is considered to develop the thermo mechanical model which predicts the residual stress and angular distortion with varying tacking sequences. The simulated result reveals that the tacking sequence heavily influences the residual stress and deformation pattern of the single sided fillet joint. The finite element based numerical model is calibrated by comparing the experimental data from published literature. Henceforth, the angular distortions are measured from an in-house developed experimental set-up. A fair agreement between the predicted and experimental results indicates the robustness of the developed numerical model. However, the most significant conclusion from present study states that tack weld position should be placed opposite to the fillet weld side to minimize the residual stress. 展开更多

Rubber elasticity theory is of fundamental importance in polymer science. The traditional theory is athermal, describing rubber deformation behavior as entropy elasticity without an internal energy contribution. It has been found experimentally, however, that the internal energy contribution is not zero. In the present study we have used conformational elasticity theory to calculate the internal energy contribution of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and results obtained are consistent with a number of experimental observations. 展开更多

Sintered metals are characterized by the high porosity(8%)and voids/micro-cracks in microns.Inelastic behavior of the materials is coupled with micro-crack propagation and coalescence of open voids. In the present work the damage evolution of the sintered iron under multi-axial monotonic loading conditions was investigated experimentally and computationally. The tests indicated that damage of the sintered iron initiated already at a stress level much lower than the macroscopic yield stress. The damage process can be divided into the stress-dominated elastic damage and the plastic damage described by the plastic strain.Based on the uniaxial tensile tests an elastic-plastic continuum damage model was developed which predicts both elastic damage and plastic damage in the sintered iron under general multi-axial monotonic loading conditions.Computational predictions agree with experiments with different multi-axial loading paths.A phenomenological continuum damage model for the sintered metal is developed based on the experimental observations to predict the inelastic behavior and damage process to failure under multi-axial loading conditions. The proposed damage model is experimentally verified under different loading conditions. 展开更多
