The strength of brazing joint determines the reliability of brazed engineering components. So the need to ascertain the reliability or to predict its failure (without some destructive testing) becomes high even with a computer aided analysis using the Finite Element Analysis. Here, we have employed the services of FEA software, Abaqus CAE, as a tool for the computer calculation to investigate a joint case of cemented carbide brazed with silver-based filler metal. In this paper, 2D analysis has been adopted because the thickness of the material (in 2D) does not influence the final calculation results. We have applied constant loading and constant boundary condition to explore data from the elastic and plastic strain analysis through which we were able to predict the maximum joint strength with respect to the joint thickness. The pattern of the meshing was also significant. And the result could be transferable to a real-life field situation. The final results showed that there is an optimum thickness of the filler metal with the maximum strength which matches that obtained from experiment.展开更多

In this study, Weibuli distribution function is used to analyze the strength distribution of various staple fibers. The strengths of wool, silk, cotton, flax, acrylic, polyester, glass, aramid and carbon fiber are tested. It is found that the strengths of cotton, polyester, glass, aramid and carbon fiber fit well with the two-factor Weibull distribution, while those of wool and silk with the three-factor Weibuil distribution. However, the strength distribution of flax cannot be expressed by either two- or three-factor Weibull distribution convincingly.展开更多

The data acquisition card(DAC) was used to gather multichannel data and controlled motor. Experimental results indicated that the testing system had achieved the goal of testing three-dimensional distribution of LI. The defects of FRP pipelines would increase with the extension of service time. However, it is very difficult to detect the defects of FRP pipelines on-spot quickly. In this paper, a new method detecting defects for FRP pipes has been provided based on the NMR. The proton density distributions have been obtained at different depth of FRP components using single-side NMR. The experimental results show that there is a significant change of proton density distribution at the location of defects. Vegetation and rainfall are two important factors affecting soil erosion and thus resulting in nutrient loss in the Chinese Loess Plateau.A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of rainfall intensi...Vegetation and rainfall are two important factors affecting soil erosion and thus resulting in nutrient loss in the Chinese Loess Plateau.A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of rainfall intensities(60,100 and 140 mm h-1) and vegetation(Caragana korshinskii) coverages(0%,30% and 80%) on soil loss,nutrient loss,and the composition and volume fractal dimension of eroded sediment particles under simulated rainfall conditions.The results showed that vegetation cover,rainfall intensity and their interaction all had significant effects on sediment transport and the sedimentbound nutrient loss.Higher rainfall intensity and lower coverage led to higher sediment and nutrient losses.Positive linear relationships were observed between soil loss and nutrient loss.The treatments showed more significant effects on the enrichment ratio(ER) of nitrogen(ERN) than organic matter(EROM) and phosphorus(ERP).Compared with the original surface soil,the eroded sediment contained more fine particles.Under the same coverage,the clay content significantly decreased with increasing rainfall intensity.The ER of sediment-bound nutrients was positively correlated with that of clay,suggesting that the clay fraction was preferentially eroded and soil nutrients were mainly adsorbed onto or contained within this fraction.There were increments in the fractal dimension of the sediment particles compared to that of the original surface soil.Moreover,the fractal dimension was positively correlated with clay,silt,and sediment-bound OM,N,and P contents,whereas it was negatively correlated with sand content.This study demonstrated that fractal dimension analysis can be used to characterize differences in particle-size distribution and nutrient loss associated with soil erosion.展开更多
