Artificial lighting regimes have been successfully used to inhibit sexual maturity of Atlantic salmon in confinement.However,when these operations are applied in commercial recirculating aquaculture systems(RAS) using...Artificial lighting regimes have been successfully used to inhibit sexual maturity of Atlantic salmon in confinement.However,when these operations are applied in commercial recirculating aquaculture systems(RAS) using standard lighting technology,sexual maturation is not suppressed.In this study,an L_9(3~3) orthogonal design was used to determine the effects of three factors(spectral composition,photoperiod,and light intensity) on the gonadal development of Atlantic salmon in RAS.We demonstrated that the photoperiod at the tested levels had a much greater effect on the gonadosomatic index and female Fulton condition factor than spectral composition and light intensity.The photoperiod had a significant effect on the secretion of sex steroids and melatonin(P<0.05),and a short photoperiod delayed sex steroid and melatonin level increases.The three test factors had no significant effects on the survival rate,specific growth rate,relative weight gain,and male Fulton condition factor(P>0.05).The optimum lighting levels in female and male Atlantic salmon were LD 8:16,455 nm(or 625 nm),8.60 W/m^2;and LD 8:16,8.60 W/m^2,455 nm respectively.These conditions not only delayed gonadal development,but also had no negative effects on Atlantic salmon growth in RAS.These results demonstrate that a combination of spectral composition,photoperiod and light intensity is effective at delaying the gonadal development of both male and female salmon in RAS.展开更多
In order to identify a harvesting model which is beneficial for broadleaf-Korean pine mixed forest (BKF) sustainability, we investigated four types of harvested stands which have been logged with intensities of 0 (...In order to identify a harvesting model which is beneficial for broadleaf-Korean pine mixed forest (BKF) sustainability, we investigated four types of harvested stands which have been logged with intensities of 0 (T0, control), 15% (T1, low intensity), 35% (T2, moderate intensity), and 100% (T3, clear-cutting), and examined the impacts of logging intensity on composition and structure of these stands. Results showed that there were no significant differences between To and T1 for all structural characteristics, except for density of seeding and large trees. The mean diameter at breast height (DBH, 1.3 m above the ground), stem density and basal area of large trees in T2 were significantly lower than in To, while the density of seedlings and saplings were significantly higher in T2 than in To. Structural characteristics in T3 were entirely different from To. Dominant tree species in primary BKF comprised 93%, 85%, 45% and 10% of the total basal area in T0, T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Three community similarity indices, the Jaccard's similarity coefficient (Cj); the Morisita-Hom index (CMH); and the Bray-Curtis index (CN), were the highest for T0 and T1, followed by T0 and T2, and T0 and T3, in generally. These results suggest that effects of harvesting on forest composition and structure are related to logging intensities. Low intensity harvesting is conductive to preserving forest structure and composition, allowing it to recover in a short time period. The regime characterized by low logging intensity and short rotations appears to be a sustainable harvesting method for BKF on the Changbai Mountains.展开更多

Five samples for each rock type (gneiss and limestone) were tested in...The study examined joint discontinuity spacing effect on drilling condition and performance in selected rocks in llorin and Ibese areas, Nigeria. Five samples for each rock type (gneiss and limestone) were tested in the laboratory for chemical, physical and mechanical properties. Dip direction and joint spacing were measured using compass clinometers. The chemical composition was determined using X-ray Fluores- cence (XRF) spectrometer. The results show that gneiss has SiO2 of 61.88g and limestone has CaO content of 52.3g. The average dry density of gneiss and limestone are 2.6 and 2.39 g/cm^3, respectively. The uniaxial compressive strength of gneiss and limestone are 195 and 93.83 MPa, respectively. These rocks are classified as strong and moderately strong rock. Gneiss and limestone have mean joint discontinuity spacing of 0.79 and 0.25 m, which classified them as moderate and wide joint spacing respectively. Joint spacing was correlated with specific energy, bit wear and uniaxial compressive using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The regression model has multiple coefficient of correlation of R^2 = 0.791 and R^2 =0.995 for gneiss and limestone, respectively. The variation in joint spacing could be attributed to spe- cific energy, bit wear and uniaxial compressive strength which affect drilling condition and performance. Ultimately, as joint spacing gets closer, the drilling velocity increases, drill string will be stable.展开更多

Methods: The CT materials of 10 cases with su...Objective: The aim of our study was to demonstrate the CT features of solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas (SPTP) so as to improve the imaging diagnostic abilities. Methods: The CT materials of 10 cases with surgery and pathology proved SPTP were retrospectively analyzed, including 8 females and 2 males, their age ranged from 12 to 54 years (average being 27.2 years). All of the 10 cases underwent spiral CT scan and also with contrast enhancement before surgery. Results: All of the 10 cases were isolated mass. They were located at the head (n = 5), tail (n = 4), and body (n = 1) of the pancreas. Their shapes were round (n = 3), oval (n = 4), and irregular (n = 3). The long-axis diameter ranged from 2.1-8.6 cm (mean 6.5 cm). All of neoplasms consisted of solid and cystic components. Mostly solid components in 5 cases, nearly the same proportion of solid and cystic part in 3 cases, and mostly cystic components in 2 cases. After dynamic contrast-enhanced, the solid parts of the lesion showed progressive enhancement and the cystic parts of the lesion showed no enhancement. Calcification was noted in 5 cases, such as the spot, line-like, small nodules or patchy calcification. Fluid-debris level and "floating cloud" sign were noted in one case. In one case of mostly cystic components, patchy area of high attenuation were shown on CT imaging which then was proved as old hemorrhage by pathologic evaluation. Seven cases were completely encapsulated and made more remarkable on post-contrast images. Three cases had incomplete capsules, and adhesion to the surrounding tissues could be seen during operation, including one case in which invasion to the adjacent adipose tissues near the inferior vena cava and walls of the duodenum could be seen under the microscope. Pancreatic duct broadening or hepatic duct dilatation was caused by tumor each in 1 case. All of the 10 cases had no enlargement of the intra-abdominal lymph nodes or distant organ metastasis. Conclusion: SPTP occurs mainly in young women and has comparatively characteristic CT imaging features: a large solid and cystic tumor of pancreas, sharp edges, the solid parts of the lesion showed progressive enhancement, a few with hemorrhage and calcification.展开更多

It describes non-linear strength properties on the π-plane and the meridian plane using a unified formula, and it includes almost all the present non-linear strength theories, which can be used in just one material. The shape of failure function of the GNST is a smooth curve between the SMP criterion and the Mises criterion on the π-plane, and an exponential curve on the meridian plane. Through the transformed stress space based on the GNST, the combination of the GNST and various constitutive models using p and q as stress parameters can be realized simply and rationally in three-dimensional stress state. The output flatness could be effectively improved with the application of asymmetric DFB-FLs. The last element had almost the same output with the others although it obtained the smallest pump power. The relative intensity noise (RIN) and relaxation oscillation frequency of the sensor array were also analyzed. It is found that the relaxation oscillation frequency of a certain DFB-FL was relevant to its relative position in the array. And the RIN of a certain DFB-FL was always affected by the other elements in the array, which was not dependent on the order of their arrangement.展开更多
