Magnetic coal-based activated carbons (MCAC) were prepared from Taixi anthracite with low ash content in the presence of Ni(NO3)2. The MCAC materials were characterized by a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), a scanning electric microscope (SEM), and by N2 adsorption. The cylindri- cal precursors and derived char were also subjected to thermogravimetric analysis to compare their behavior of weight losses during carbonization. The results show that MCAC has a larger surface area (1074 m21g) and a higher pore volume (0.5792 cm3/g) with enhanced mesopore ratio (by about 10~). It also has a high saturation magnetization (1.6749 emu/g) and low coercivity (43.26 Oe), which allows the material to be magnetically separated. The MCAC is easily magnetized because the nickel salt is con- vetted into Ni during carbonization and activation. Metallic Ni has a strong magnetism on account of electrostatic interaction. Added Ni(NO3)2 catalyzes the carbonization and activation process by accelerat- ing burn off of the carbon, which contributes to the development of mesopores and macropores in the activated carbon.展开更多

Two types of mainly used tube bundles, the planar elastic tube bundle and the conical spiral tube bundle were comprehensively compared in the condition of the same shell side diameter. The natural mode characteristics, the effect of fluid-structure interaction, the stress distribution, the comprehensive heat transfer performance and the secondary fluid flow of the two elastic tube bundles were all concluded and compared. The results show that the natural frequency and the critical velocity of vibration buckling of the planar elastic tube bundle are larger than those of the conical spiral tube bundle, while the stress distribution and the comprehensive heat transfer performance of the conical spiral tube bundle are relatively better.展开更多

The observation has been confirmed mathematically in the context of the damped Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation and the damped Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation. In this paper we intend to show the same results hold for the pure KdV equation (without the damping terms) posed on a finite domain. Consideration is given to the initial-boundary-value problem {ut+ux+uux+uxxx=0, u(x,0)=φ(x), 0〈x〈1, t〉0,u(0,t)=h(t), u(1,t) = 0, ux(1,t) = 0, t〉0.It is shown that if the boundary forcing h is periodic with small ampitude, then the small amplitude solution u of (*) becomes eventually time-periodic. Viewing (*) (without the initial condition) as an infinite-dimensional dynamical system in the Hilbert space L^2(0, 1), we also demonstrate that for a given periodic boundary forcing with small amplitude, the system (*) admits a (locally) unique limit cycle, or forced oscillation, which is locally exponentially stable. A list of open problems are included for the interested readers to conduct further investigations.展开更多

In this paper parametric studies have been carried out to examine the geometric dependence of transient flow features in solid rockets with non-uniform ports. Numerical computations have been carried out in an inert simulator of solid propellant rocket motor with the aid of a standard k-ω turbulence model. It was seen that the damping of the temperature fluctuation is faster in solid rocket with convergent port than with divergent port geometry. We inferred that the damping of the flow fluctuations using the port geometry is a meaningful objective for the suppression and control of the instability and/or pressure/thrust oscillations during the starting transient of solid rockets.展开更多
