Gastro-vagal or splanchnic-sympathetic nerves were recorded or cut respectively for investigating the involvement of autonomic nerve pathways. Spinalization experiment was also performed.RESULTS: Acupuncture-stimulation by exciting Aδ and/or C afferent fibers, could only modulate gastric motility. Acupuncture-stimulation on fore- and hind-limbs evoked a moderate gastric motility followed by increased vagus discharges with unchanged sympathetic activity, while the same stimulus to the acupoints in abdomen resulted in reversed effects on gastric motility and autonomic nervous activities. The inhibitory gastric response was completely abolished by splanchnic denervation, but the facilitative gastric response to stimulation of acupoints in limbs was not influenced, which was opposite to the effect when vagotomy was performed. The similar depressive effects were produced by the stimulation at the acupoints homo-segmental to the gastric innervation in the animals with or without spinalization. However, the facilitation induced by the stimulation at the acupoints hetero-segmental to the gastric innervation was not observed in the spinalized animals.CONCLUSION: Facilitative effects of stimulating hetero-segmental acupoints are involved in the intact preparation of vagal nerves and spinal cord, while the inhibitory response induced by stimulating homo-segmental acupoints is involved in the intact preparation of sympathetic nerves. Only the acupuncture-stimulation with intensity over the threshold of Aδ and/or C afferent fibers can markedly modulate gastrointestinal motility.展开更多

Methods: Aging mouse model was established by subcutaneous injection of D-galactose, and treated by auricular acupuncture, auricular acupuncture plus moxibustion, and auricular acupuncture plus Chinese herbs respectively for 6 weeks and then serum interleukin-2 (IL-2) and IL-6 contents and splenic lymphocyte transformation rate were compared among the groups. Results: Compared with the young group, the serum IL-2 level and the splenic lymphocyte transformation rate significantly decreased and the IL-6 level significantly increased in the aging mouse. After treatment by auricular acupuncture, auricular acupuncture plus Chinese herbs, especially auricular acupuncture plus moxibustion, the serum IL-2 level and the splenic lymphocyte transformation rate significantly increased, and the IL-6 level significantly decreased as compared with the model group. Conclusions: Combined application of auricular acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbs can improve the decline or dysfunction of immunological function in the aging organism to a certain extent.展开更多

Methods: 216 patients were randomly divided into 2 groups according to numeric representation, 108 cases in the treatment group were treated by needle pricking therapy plus rotating pulling manipulation, and 108 cases in the control group were treated by rotating pulling manipulation. The peak systolic blood velocity (Vpeak), end diastolic blood velocity (Vmin), pulsatile index (PI) and resistant index (RI) of the bilateral vertebral arteries (VA) and basilar arteries (BA) were examined by transcranial doppler sonography (TCD). The values of whole blood apparent viscosity and plasma viscosity of both groups were recorded. The indexes before and after treatment of both groups were compared. Results: The therapeutic effects of the above-mentioned indexes of the treatment group were significantly superior to those of the control group (P〈0.05). In comparison with pre-treatment, the whole blood apparent viscosity (high, medium and low shear rates) and plasma viscosity of the treatment group post-treatment were obviously reduced (P〈0.01, P〈0.05). Conclusion: Needle pricking therapy combined with pulling-rotating manipulation can significantly improve VATCS patients' clinical symptoms, which may be closely related to its effects in lowering vascular blood resistance and blood viscosity and increasing cerebral blood supply.展开更多

The common treatmentmethods include traction, tuina, acupuncture andmedication. However, psychological factors, suchas anxiety, depression or fear are often neglectedduring the treatment. The authors investigated theeffect of combined psycho- therapy, acupunctureand tuina on the cervical spondylosis.展开更多

Methods: A total of 60 cases meeting the inclusion criteria were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. Cases in the observation group received liver-regulating and blood-tonifying acupuncture, in which Jiaji (EX-B 2) points of C3_C7, Ganshu (BL 18) and Geshu (BL 17) were used; cases in the control group received routine acupuncture treatment in which jiaji (EX-B2) points of C3.C7 were used. Both groups received 5 times of treatment in a week with a 2-day rest, symptoms evaluation was done after 4 weeks of treatment, and then therapeutical effect was evaluated. Results: The total effective rate was 90.0% in the observation group, 73.3% in the control group, and inter-group comparison showed a statistical significance (P〈0.05). After treatment, the symptoms and signs scores in both groups all substantially dropped, showing statistical significances (both P〈0.05); inter-group comparison showed that the improvements in subscales of dizziness, pressing pain along vertebrae and revolve-cervix test in the observation group were superior than those in the control group, showing statistical significances (all P〈0.05), while the inter-group comparisons of subscales of headache and vomiting and nause didn't show any statistical significances after treatment (both P〉0.05). Conclusion: Liver-regulating and blood-tonifying acupuncture is effective in treating cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type, and it can significantly improve patients' symptoms and signs.展开更多

Methods: Thirty-eight cases with cervical spondylosis causing vertebral artery insufficiency were treated by needling the cervical tendon for one-course treatment. After treatment, the vertebrobasilar blood flow was observed. Results: The vertebrobasilar blood flow of the patients was substantially improved. The total effective rate and marked effect rate were 100.0% and 68.4% respectively. Conclusion: Needling the cervical tendon can obtain an exact effect for cervical spondylosis causing vertebral artery insufficiency.展开更多

This is caused by unstable joints or soft tissue inflammation that irritates or compresses the vessels and nerves. Contributing factors include hyperplasia of the cervical spine, cervical intervertebral disc herniation, decreased intervertebral foramen, facet derangement and surrounding soft tissue injuries. Long-term sedentary lifestyle also played a role in developing this condition. We have treated 142 cases using combined tuina and acupuncture. The results are now reported as follows.展开更多
